The week long loop / anchor venue is a very good & useful exercise.  You handled it perfectly - we are seeing the feuds development with the short snappy results.  The capper is nicely fleshed out into a real event.

The TV was great.  A creative spin on the kickoff.  Fabulous background on the players, history & premise.  Loved the digs - will be interesting if names are named!

Big criticism!  I don't like the notes on what we just read taking "X" minutes.  Unless they are a help to you of course.  I like the idea as a reader that the imagination is trusted by the writer to fill fill in blanks.

ROCK solid.  There was a nice thread "elsewhere" this week from the era regarding Owensboro, a lot of the characters you use.  Except Ben the wrestling bear...

World Class Championship Wrestling
Sportatorium
Dallas, TX
Referees-Bronk Lubich and David Manning
Announcer-Bill Mercer and Lord Alfred Hays
Ring Announcer-Mark Lowrance
Taped-5/17//83
Airs-5/18/83

Hays and Mercer welcome the fans to another exciting show. Today, We have the semifinals of the TV Title Tournament, plus highlights of the Parade Of Champions. Also, Scott Casey will defend the American Title against Chick Donovan.

Iceman Parsons opens the show with an impressive win over Butcher Vachon.

Jim Cornette and the Texas Tag Champion Midnight Express are interviewed. Cornette says that his men should be the World Tag Team Champions, but Steamboat and Youngblood are the biggest cheaters in wrestling today. Cornette says his boys invented most of the dirty tricks that Steamboat and Youngblood know and they aren’t afraid to use them!  Cornette says that he’s sick of hearing about Kerry Von Erich & Barry Windham, the so called ‘Dream Team’. He says that Bobby and Dennis are the ‘nightmare team’ for anybody stupid enough to get in the ring with them! Cornette also explains the David Shults situation: The Dynasty was simply overstaffed and somebody had to go! “Dr.D” was an embarrassment. The Midnight Express are champions, Gino is on the verge of winning a belt, Dr. D is just a disappointment! Not only that, he went to Cornette’s country club and ordered Pabst Blue Ribbon! What kind of a clod drinks domestic beer?!?!?!? Cornette says he isn’t like Homer O”Dell, who signs anybody who has a pulse to a contract! Now, speaking of class and style, here’s a video everybody needs to see, especially Precious!

A video is shown of Gino Hernandez in his bedroom, getting ready to go out. Gino has a walk in closet full of designer clothes and dozens of pairs of shoes and a dresser full of jewelry and cologne. He says the only thing he doesn’t have is a classy lady on his arm. He tells Precious that he had his eye on her the entire time he and Jimmy Garvin were tag teaming. He says Jimmy is a clod who doesn’t deserve a classy lady like Precious. Gino finished getting dressed in a custom made suit and then, Jim Cornette knocks on the door and comes in, saying the chauffeur has the limo ready to take them to the club.

A video of highlights from The Parade Of Champions, set to “Going The Distance” from Rocky is shown. Then, we cut to another video. This one of David Von Erich in the locker room after his cage match with Brody. There is a bandage on DVE’s forehead with blood seeping through and David has the title belt slung over his shoulder. David says that he knew Brody would give him the fight of his life, but like he promised, Brody was not gonna put him in the hospital. David says that now, he’d like some good, competitive title defenses and mentions names like Barry Windham, Rick Steamboat, Chris Adams, and even his brothers, Kerry and Kevin, but says that he will not back down from anybody!

TV TOURNAMENT SEMIFINAL: Kerry Von Erich takes  on Jimmy Garvin (w/ Precious). This is a fast paced, even match for several minutes. Gino Hernandez comes to ringside and begins to talk to Precious. Gino has a  diamond necklace and he’s offering it to Precious! Garvin rolls out of the ring and he’s yelling at Gino! Kerry leaves the ring and buys a bag of popcorn from a ringside vendor! Kerry sits on the top turnbuckle and eats popcorn and watches as Jimmy and Gino argue and then, come to blows! Bronko Lubich counts Jimmy out as he brawls with Gino at ringside! Kerry wins and advances to the finals! Kerry throws the popcorn in the air and it rains down on he and Bronko as the fans roar!

TV TOURNAMENT SEMIFINAL: Kevin Von Erich meets “Dr.D” David Shults. The winner meets Kerry for the TV Title next week. The fans give Dr. D a mixed reactionduring intros, but once the bout starts , they are 100% behind Kevin. This is just a good, old fashioned Texas brawl. The match spills onto the floor and Kevin appears to hurt his shoulder! When Kevin goes for a bodyslam a few minutes later, his shoulder gives out and he collapses with Shults on top of him…Dr. D gets the pin and will meet Kerry for the TV Title next week!

Scott Casey defends the American Title against Chick Donovan(w/Homer O’Dell). During the match, Volkoff and Koloff come to ringside, followed by Slaughter and Kernodle. Casey finally gets the pin with a backslide. The Russians try to interfere, but the Cobra Corps cuts them off and Casey defends his title successfully!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Ferris wrestled in Portland and Kansas City, and I'm sure other places. He was a fairly muscular mid-carder. I'm short on mid-card good guys, so I need to elevate someone. Here's a Ferris vs. Chris Colt match.

I'm not super familiar with Ferris, but Miller was a very talented performer so I am sure the main event would have been fantastic.

Great Billy Jack Haynes interview as well - it's cool to see him acknowledge that Stasiak has a legitimate complaint.

Great stuff here, PPK! Bruno's comeback has been great, and the involvement of Letterman in all of this has been fantastic and really creative.

It also be might close to the end of the line for Graham as a top guy, so it's nice to see him getting a babyface push in the WWF. I think in the upcoming months it'll be interesting to see if a younger babyface starts to rise up the ranks.

ADRIAN ADONIS DEF. IVAN PUTSKI after hitting a double arm ddt on him.

ARMAN HUSSEIN DEF. SKANDOR ABKAR after a suplex, this match features fire balls and weapons, both men are bloody near the end.

INTERMISSION

TAPED FIST MATCH:

CYCLONE NEGRO DEF. CHAVO GUERRERO
Dusek is sent to the back before the match. This wild fight goes all over the civic center, Chavo really gives as good as he gets it. It even looks like he will win a few times but  in the end. Cyclone and his boxing skills are superior. He knocks out Chavo and raises his arms in the ring over his fallen foe.

INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH:

ROCKY JOHNSON DEF. ANGELO MOSCA
Another back and forth match, Rocky really looks in trouble on many occasions. But he battles back and works over Mosca with his fists. Mosca is able to almost get him up in a piledriver but Rocky slides out and rolls him up for the pin.

SUPERSTAR BILLY GRAHAM/BRUNO SAMMARTINO vs. BIG JOHN STUDD/KEN PATERA
Heenan is made to go to the back on this one. Match really brings out the best in all men. Bruno has a reunion of sorts with his son david who is sitting front row, they talk and Bruno looks happy as he enters the ring. Billy and Bruno work over Patera and almost get near falls a few times. Bruno is then caught by Studd with a few moves and he is really worked over. Billy keeps trying to get him to tag out but he is caught every time leading to the heels double teaming him. Finally, Billy is tagged in and he clears the ring. Bruno and Billy each pair up on Studd and Patera. Bruno is brawling with Studd on the outside which leads to Billy escaping a swinging neck breaker and then hitting a high knee and then the leg drop, he then gets the three count.

He and Bruno pose in the ring for the fans.

"Portland Wrestling"
Sports Arena
Portland, OR
5/25/83

Don Coss and Dutch Savage open the show from the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “Welcome to the 'House of Action'! Partner, what a show we had on Tuesday! Things are getting even hotter in the Northwest.”

Savage, “Yes they are. The 'Portland Special' was exciting, but it may have asked more questions than it answered.”

Coss, “That's true. We will talk about that as the night goes on. Let's bring out one of our winners on Tuesday, but it was controversial, Billy Jack Haynes.”

Billy Jack Haynes joins Coss and Savage.

Coss, “With us is Billy Jack Haynes. Billy, you beat Stan Stasiak, but it was controversial. It was clear that Stan had his foot on the ropes.”

BJ, “I know that. This is wrestling and you don't apologize for winning, but I know that Stasiak has a legitimate argument. I'll wrestle him again, and again, Whenever, or wherever he wants!”

Savage, “Professional wrestling doesn't use instant replay. Like Billy said, when they raise your hand, you win the match. Billy is fighter, he wants to prove himself and he'll do it again.”

Coss, “Billy Jack Haynes and Stan Stasiak have rematches scheduled all over the Northwest. Now let's see Billy in the ring.”

Match #1
Billy Jack Haynes def. Terry Adonis, w/Full Nelson

Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka is in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “With us is, Jimmy Snuka,, the Northwest Champion. Jimmy you and Andre were successful on Tuesday, You beat the Sheik and Brooks, but you have not been able to get a clean win over the Sheik in a singles match.”

Snuka, “He keeps cheating and he gets disqualified, or we get counted out. I know I can beat him, bruddah!”

Coss, “You wrestled him in Seattle, Salem and Eugene this week and the results were inconclusive. Don Owen and the Championship Committee met, earlier today, and they have a solution to this problem. Next week, you will meet the Sheik, right here in the Portland Sports Arena, in a CAGE MATCH!”

Snuka, “Bruddah, that's what I want! Sheik, it's all over for you!”

Coss, “What a match it will be. I will point out, that the cage match will not be televised. The only way you can see this match is to buy a ticket and come to the Sports Arena next Saturday night. You don't want to miss the Superfly and the Sheik in a cage. Now let's see Jimmy in action.”

Match #2
Non-Title Match
Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka (Northwest Champion) def. Ken Jugan, w/Superfly Leap

The Clan is in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “With is is the Clan. Let's start with the tag team champions. Matt Borne pinned Mr. Ebony. It looks like Borne and Madril are ready to challenge for the tag team titles.”

Oliver, “Look, it was a six man tag team match. The titles aren't on the line. It's not like they could beat us for the titles.”

Coss, “We will see, Borne and Madril have several matches scheduled this week against the Champions. Now on to Mr. Oliver. You and Bobby Jaggers went at it on Tuesday, and noting was settled. Now you two will meet on next week's program. This has become quite a rivalry.”

Oliver, “He's a pest and I'm tired of fooling with him! Next week, Oliver, I'm going to finish you off! Take that to the bank!”

Coss, “One more thing, Mike Miller, you meet Scott Ferris in our main event this week.”

Miller, “The Clan is on top, and I'm going to make sure we stay there!”

Coss, “Miller is right, the Clan is riding high.”

Match #3
Steve Pardee def. Moondog Moretti, w/Dropkick

Sheik Ali Hasan and Killer Brooks are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “With us are the Sheik and Killer Brooks. Sheik, you have a cage match against Jimmy Snuka next week. Many people think this is to your advantage. You will use your viciousness the take the title.”

Sheik, “Things are always to my advanteage. I am the Sheik from Arabia! I am the most brilliant men in wrestling and the most vicious! Snuka has escaped, each time, against me. Now it cannot happen! Snuka, I will take the title from you and leave you in pool of your own blood! Your career is over! The Sheik will rule the Northwest!”

Coss, “Next week, the Sheik challenges Jimmy Snuka, in a steel cage! Remember the match will nto be televised. Get your tickets and get out to the Sports Arena for this one!”

Match #4
Sheik Ali Hasan w/Killer Brooks def. Verne Seibert, w/Camel Clutch

Coss, “Our main event is next.”

Main Event, Two out of Three Falls
“Mean” Mike Miller w/Rip Oliver vs. Scott Ferris

First Fall-
Scott Ferris is a big youngster and this is a chance for him to make a name for himself. Mike Miller is aggressive and will be a stiff test for the youngster. The early moments of the match belong to Ferris. He overpowers Miller and the man from Loranger, LA is in trouble. Oliver shouts instructions from ringside. Miler rallies with aggressive tactics, but Ferris hits the Powerslam and cover fro the first fall.
Winner-Scott Ferris

Stan Stasiak is in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “With us is 'Crusher' Stasiak. Crusher, you lost on Tuesday, but it was controversial.”

Stasiak, “Controversial! I was robbed by a dishonest Sandy Barr! He wants Billy Jack to win, so I get cheated!”

Coss, “I don;t think that's what happened. He didn't see you foot on the ropes.”

Stasiak, “He didn't want to see it! It doesn't matter now. I have more matches signed with Haynes and I’m not trying to win, I'm going to hurt him, and I'm going to end his career!”

Coss, “Well there are more matches signed, and I know that Billy Jack Haynes will be ready for action. When we return we will go bcak to the ring for our second fall.”

Second Fall-Miller jumps Ferris before the bell. He and Oliver must have cooked up a plan between falls. This is a brawl and Miller is able to win with an Elbow Drop. It's one fall apiece.
Winner-Mike Miller

Coss and Savage are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “Partner, we say it each and every week, but the action in the Northwest gets hotter and hotter.”

Savage, “Northwest summers are the most beautiful in the world and a night of wrestling just tops off a great summer day.”

Coss, “Next week's show will be one of our bests. We have Oliver vs. Jaggers in our TV main event, and then, a cage match for the Northwest Title.”

Savage, “Cage matches are the most dangerous matches in wrestling, but they settle things. Neither man can get away and no one can get in to help. This is the final chapter of any feud.”

Coss, “Remember the cage match will not be televised, so if you want to see Jimmy Snuka vs. Sheik Ali Hasan, you have to get out to 8725 North Chautauqua and the Portland Sports Arena, you don't want to miss this one! Now let's see the final fall of our main event. “

Third Fall-Ferris gives a great account of himself. Miller is in early trouble, but Oliver keeps his cool and keeps giving instructions. Miller rallies and uses his patented Elbow Drop to win the match. Miller is good, but the big youngster was very impressive.
Winner-Mike Miller

Coss closes the show.

Coss, “Fans we have just a few seconds left. Don't miss next week's show, Bobby Jaggers vs. Rip Oliver and the big cage match, Jimmy Snuka defends the Northwest Title against Sheik Ali Hasan.”

Show opens with the stars of the WWF going across the screen, we go to Vince Mcmahon and Bobby Heenan in front of a black curtain. Vince talks about the huge card tonight in Pittsburgh, but today on the show, the Samoans will make their return, and in the main event Charlie Fulton teams with Chavo Guerrero to face Frank Dusek and Cyclone Negro. Bobby looks at his watch and counts down the demise of Bruno and Billy Graham.

BILLY GRAHAM and BRUNO SAMMARTINO talk about their tag match tonight, Billy talks about how all the little superstars are going to be there to see him and Uncle Bruno take care of Studd and Patera. He talks about how Heenan was too scared to make it a title match because he would lose those belts. Bruno wants Heenan to take a good look because he is going to get an even closer on at MSG in a few weeks.

ANGELO MOSCA is very happy, tonight he is going to become the IC champ beating Rocky Johnson, and this will lead to him being victorious in the cage at MSG to become the WWF champ. Nobody better get in his way because they will get hurt.

IVAN PUTSKI talks about tonight facing Adrian Adonis. Adonis has an ego that keeps his mouth running all the time, tonight Putski is going to shut that mouth. He promises next week to reveal his partner to face Studd and Patera at MSG.

ROCKY JOHNSON wants all of the good people of Pittsburgh to join him tonight, he has to face a tough guy in Angelo Mosca, and he wants the fans to be there to support him, as the Soulman is making his rounds as the IC champ.

CAPT LOU ALBANO has the Samoans with him, he knows they have been tag champs before and he is going lead them to it again, but first they are going to take care of some unfinished business with Goulet and Scicluna at MSG.

BIG JOHN STUDD and KEN PATERA are in the mood to break some bones, to crack some skulls and hurt somebody, Bobby Heenan is paying extra for every injury that is inflicted tonight. Studd and Patera take pride in the fact that somebody is going to get carried out.

SKANDOR AKBAR is ready, he has his wrestling gear and is going to put on a clinic when he beats that no talent bum Arman Hussein. His guys are going to win the war earlier in the evening so that no one sticks their nose where it does not belong. Hussein is then going to pay Akbar all the money he stole from him.

ARMAN HUSSEIN talks about how tonight is going to be like a new start for him, he will rid the WWF of Devastation Inc, and his group will have free reign over everything.

FRANK DUSEK and CYCLONE NEGRO are ready for this battle here, Cyclone wants to get his hands on Chavo before tonight so that he can give him a taste of what he is in for in the taped fist match.

Matches from Hamburg:

SAMOANS w/LOU ALBANO DEF. TONY ALTIMORE/FRED MARZINO

Afa and Sika pick up right where they left off in the WWF, they dominate the match and have trouble beating up on their foes. Finally, Sika hits a Samoan drop on Marzino and gets the pin.

IVAN PUTSKI DEF. RENE GOULET
All Putski, he works over the number one Frenchman and in the end hits the Polish Hammer for the win.

Matches from Allentown:

BIG JOHN STUDD/KEN PATERA w/BOBBY HEENAN DEF. DOMINIC DENUCCI/ALI BEY
The tag champs show why they are just that. They manhandle both of their foes and in the end, Patera hits his swinging neckbreaker on Bey to win the match.

CHAVO GUERRERO/CHARLIE FULTON vs. CYCLONE NEGRO/FRANK DUSEK
This is not really a match, as it starts a two on two fight that goes all over the fairgrounds, all four men battle it out. Dusek and Fulton go over brawling one way and Chavo brawls with Cyclone the other. Chavo really takes as many punches as he gives and the ref has no choice but to call it a no contest.

Vince talks about that was a perfect setup for tonight’s taped fist match. Bobby talks about how Chavo is going to look like Bruno and Graham after their match tonight, they can all share a ride in the ambulance together. Vince hypes the card tonight and signs off.

All American Wrestling
Airing on USA Network
From Ag Hall and
Hamburg Fieldhouse
5/11/83

Show opens with the stars of the WWF going across the screen. We go to Vince Mcmahon and Bobby Heenan in front of a black curtain. Vince talks about upcoming wrestling action in both Pittsburgh and MSG in a few weeks, also he hypes LIVING LEGEND Bruno Sammartino’s visit to the David Letterman show, and the challenge issued to Bobby Heenan. Heenan starts to talk about the challenge but Vince cuts him off to show the clip.

VTR Bruno is on Letterman on Thursday Night, Dave is a huge fan and asks Bruno a bunch of fan questions from when he was growing up watching Bruno. Then he talks about how he loved Bruno with Vince hosting the program on USA. Bruno talks about losing that to Bobby Heenan, and Dave talks about how his disdain for Heenan is. Dave talks about how he would love to see Bobby get his due and have Bruno back on the air. Bruno talks about how he wishes Dave could get his hands on Bobby too. Dave then proposes that he and Bruno team against Bobby and one of his wrestlers at MSG next month, if Bruno and Dave win, Bruno gets back on the air and he is so sure that they will win, he will put up his time slot against it. Bruno talks about how he would love it, he would have to run it by the WWF and Dave would have to run it by NBC but they want to do it.

Bobby is just laughing when they come back from the clip. He talks about how he accepted that match in a heartbeat. A network show for himself, he is already figuring out who he is going to put on the air with him, Vince talks about how the WWF and NBC agreed, they will air the match on NBC that night. Bobby talks about how at that MSG show, Angelo Mosca will be facing Superstar Billy Graham in a cage for the WWF title, so he is out as a partner, either of the tag champs would do it, but they have a big match with Ivan Putski and a partner of his choice that night. But Heenan has a guy he can bring in there with him and he wants everyone to get a good look at his face because they will be seeing a lot of it.

Interviews on the Show:

ANGELO MOSCA talks about how his cage encounter with Graham is just what he needed, Graham cannot run and hide. Bobby is with him and talks about how on the 18th Graham is going to team with Bruno Sammartino to face Studd and Patera in Pittsburgh. While Angelo Mosca is going to battle new IC champ Rocky Johnson. Angelo is going to be IC champ and WWF champ in the space of a few weeks and join  a few elite that have held two titles like that.

ROCKY JOHNSON is so happy to be IC champ, he beat Muraco and is now defending the belt everywhere he goes, today on the program he defends against Frank Dusek, a tough customer that is going to challenge Rocky, but the Rocky is ready. Next Saturday Night in Pittsburgh, he defends against Angelo Mosca, he knows Heenan is going to be in the corner and it is going to be a dangerous match, and finally he knows Don Muraco is not going to let him just take the belt without wanting a rematch so Rocky is going to have to contend with that. Rocky knows this summer is going to be busy.

DOCTOR’s OFFICE: DR. JERRY has SUPERSTAR BILLY GRAHAM and BRUNO SAMMARTINO on the show, Jerry asks about their past and they respond it has brought them together as friends. Jerry talks about how they have a tall task next Saturday night facing Studd and Patera, if they survive that SBG is going to face Angelo Mosca in a cage, and Bruno teams with a talk show host to battle even more Heenan family members. Jerry has not been asked by Heenan to be his partner but he would love to get a shot at Letterman. Bruno talks about how it would be a big mistake if Dr Jerry stepped in the ring with Heenan and with that, he and SBG leave the set.

CAPT LOU ALBANO is out by himself being interviewed, he is asked about Muraco losing the IC belt and the Maiori’s losing to Goulet and Scicluna. Lou talks about how first Don Muraco has been burned out, he needs rest so Lou being the great man he is sent Don home to Hawaii for a few weeks of rest, he will be back next month at MSG to take back the IC belt from Rocky Johnson. Also, Lou sent the Maiori’s back to where they came from, what an embarrassing loss, and he has brought back the Samoans, he talks about how you never send a maiori to do a samoan’s job. At MSG, the samoans will take out Goulet and Scicluna.

ADRIAN ADONIS talks about how today he is going to face his first test here in the WWF, he is battling Tony Garea a former tag champ, Adrian is glad they could find him a foe that is worth his time, he then runs down the ability of Ivan Putski he is foe next Saturday Night, he wants all the fans in Pittsburgh to come out and watch him embarrass Putski in the middle of the ring.

HEENAN has STUDD and PATERA out for an interview, they talk about facing Bruno and SBG in Pittsburgh and how Bobby has given them a directive. Bobby talks about how these two men are going to tear Bruno and Graham limb from limb. This will make it easier for Angelo Mosca to take the WWF belt and for him and his partner to beat Bruno and Letterman. Heenan likes how things are coming up roses for him.

CHAVO GUERRERO talks about his past with Cyclone Negro, he is back in his father’s promotion and Negro is hurting people and being a bully, his father wanted to take care of Cyclone himself but Chavo stepped in after weeks of hyping this match in El Paso, a taped fist match, Chavo could not do it, he was a young scared kid, so he did not show up. His father took his place and was beaten to a pulp by Cyclone. Cyclone then grew tired of the competition and moved on, but his father was humiliated and so was Chavo as he brought shame on the family. He thought he took care of that by winning the NWA jr title, but it reared its ugly head when Cyclone Negro made his way back into Chavo’s life. But Chavo is not a scared kid anymore, and he knows he can take Negro in a taped fist match, so next Saturday night in Pittsburgh he will beat Cyclone at his own game in the middle of the ring.

CYCLONE NEGRO is with Frank Dusek, Frank talks about how stupid Guerrero is going to get his face busted in by Cyclone, he also talks about taking the IC belt today off of Rocky Johnson, then he will climb the ladder faster than he ever though. Cyclone talks about how he is going to enjoy beating on Chavo just like he did his old man.

SKANDOR AKBAR has with him DREW MCDONALD and a man with a hood over his head, he talks about this being Yatsu. Yatsu is going to battle Magic Dragon in Pittsburgh, as well as Mcdonald finally disposing of Tenryu. Akbar vows after that he is getting in the ring with Arman Hussein, this war for who has the better corporation is going to end in Pittsburgh and Devastation Inc will reign supreme.

ARMAN HUSSEIN talks about how this war is costing him money, his guys cannot win titles if they are dealing with Akbar’s freaks. His men will be ready and he is going to beat Akbar like he stole something, Hussein Unlimited is going to take over everything Akbar has set up including the payments to the account in Bahamas.

CHARLIE FULTON is the pride of Marion Ohio, he came to the WWF for one reason, he watches week in and week out Frank Dusek run his mouth, and Fulton is sick of it, Dusek better watch out because Charlie Fulton is going to shut it for him.

Matches from AG HALL:

ADRIAN ADONIS DEF. TONY GAREA
Garea gets the fans on their feet early but after a few moments fizzles out, Adonis comes off second rope with an elbow and then hits his double arm ddt for the win.

YATSU w/SKANDOR AKBAR DEF. DOMINIC DENNUCCI
Yatsu comes out looking like a Warrior from Japan but he is very skilled with amateur wrestling, he puts on a clinic wearing down Dominic and then ending the match with a submission.

MATCHES from HAMBURG FIELDHOUSE:

IVAN PUTSKI DEF. TONY ALTIMORE
Putski in a romp, he works him over and in the end hits the Polish Hammer for the win.

WWF IC TITLE MATCH:

ROCKY JOHNSON vs. FRANK DUSEK

This match is back and forth, Dusek holds his own and really punishes Rocky throughout the match. He gets a few near falls and really has Rocky on the ropes. Rocky has the crowd behind him and makes his comeback, he is quick moving around the ring and catches Dusek with numerous moves. Finally, he hits a fist to the face of Dusek off the top rope and makes the cover getting the win.

After the match, Dusek and Cyclone Negro attack Rocky, but Chavo Guerrero and Charlie Fulton come out and drive them off. They raise the hand of Rocky and give him his belt as the fans cheer.

Vince talks about how Rocky looked good there and this lead to match being signed next week, Chavo teams with Charlie Fulton to face Frank and Cyclone. Bobby is adamant that is a mistake for Chavo/Fulton. Bobby talks about being very happy because next Saturday night he is going to be looking good when he is setup for great things. Vince asks about his partner, but Bobby tells Vince to wait and see. Vince signs off as credits roll.

WORLD CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING PRESENTS:
THE PARADE OF CHAMPIONS
5/12/83 @ 2 PM
TEXAS STADIUM
IRVING, TEXAS

1.      Gino  Hernandez (w/Jim Cornette) defeats Iceman parsons at 12:22 with an inside cradle and a big handful of tights.
2.      Pacific Rim  Tag Team Titles- Antonio Inoki & Giant Baba defend against Russ & Bill Francis in a rugged bout. Russ has the 49ers logo on his tights and hears some boos at first, but when the Japanese start double teaming Bill Francis to gain advantage, the Texans get behind the team from the badlands territory. After 13:48 of grueling action, during which Bill suffers an injury and Russ has to carry much of the action on his own, Inoki hits Russ with an enzuguri to score the pin. The fans give the Francis brothers a warm ovation for their efforts, though.
3.      Pacific Northwest Title- Jimmy Snuka defends against Sheik Ali Hassan. Hassan uses every dirty trick in the book, but Snuka electrifies texas Stadium with his exciting style. At the 7:39 mark, Snuka hits superfly leap  to get the pin and a hardfought victory.
4.      The Convict (w/ Homer O’Dell) takes on Mike Von Erich. Von Erich must wrestle this match in order to get a bout with his cousin Rick. Mike uses a hit and run strategy to gain an early advantage, but a huge clothesline from the masked man turns the tide. Mike takes a vicious beating, but the Convict just can’t put this gutsy kid away! The match ends in a 10 minute draw!
5.      In the closing minutes of the previous match, Rick Von Erich struts down to the ring. As soon as the Convict leaves the ring, Rick hits the ring and takes advantage of his cousin’s weakened condition. A few minutes into the bout, Fritz Von Erich comes to ringside and slaps the mat and yells encouragement to Mike! Mike makes a remarkable comeback, but Homer O’Dell strikes him in the back with his cane, leading to Ricke’s DQ at the 6:09 mark. Afterwards, Fritz chases O”Dell and Rick away from the ring area!
6.      Dr. D , David Shults (w/Oliver Humperdink) takes on Jack brisco. Before the match, Dr. D gets on the mic and says that he hasn’t had much luck with managers lately, so he isn’t sure he wants Humperdink at ringside. Humperdink convinces Shults to allow him to stay and the match is on! Brisco pits his vast scientific skills against Shults’ brawling. After several near falls, the action spills to the turf where Shults and Brisco both manage to post each other! Dr. D, as promiosed, attempts the piledriver on the floor of the stadium, but gets backdropped for his trouble! Humperdink comes over and yells at Dr. D and SHULTS DECKS HUMPERDINK! Brisco suplexes Shults back into the ring and applies the figure four…NO! SHULTS KICKS HIM IN THE BACK AND OUT OF THE RING! Cornette runs down to ringside and whacks Brisco twice with his tennis racket before tending to a groggy Humperdink. Brisco is stunned from the tennis racket shots and is unable to make it back into the ring before the twenty count! DR. D wins via COR at the 8:17 mark. Shults get on the mic afterward and says that Cornette is officially fired and he doesn’t need a manager or anybody else!
7.      Killer Khan (w/Homer O’Dell) takes on Barry Windham. O’Dell’s goal is to get Khan back into title contention and to knock Barry out of the rankings in the process! Khan is at his brutal best as he spends most of the bout beating the popular Windham from pillar to post! Barry makes an amazing comeback, though, but it looks like it is all in vain as Khan hits an over the knee backbreaker and goes to the top rope. Barry gets up and follows Khan up to the top turnbuckle. WINDHAM SUPERPLEXES KILLER KHAN! Barry gets the pin at 9:58 as the fans go wild!
8.      Kevin Von Erich puts the Texas Title up against the Sheik. Sheik attacks Kevin at the bell with a foreign object and soon has the eldest Von Erich bleeding! Kevin manages to apply the claw at the five minute mark and the Sheik climbs out of the ring to try to escape the hold, but Kevin holds on and soon, Kevin has the hold applied on the stadium turf. Bronko Lubich has no choice but to count both men out! Kevin retains the title and leaves with the iron claw held high and stained with the Sheik’s blood!
9.      Scott Casey defends the American Title against Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin (w/Precious). The match is very closely fought . A few minutes in, Gino Hernandez shows up at ringside with a boquet of roses and attempts to give them to Precious. Precious accepts the flowers and then proceeds to used the flowers as a weapon to smack Gino upside the head with! Garvin sees the altercation at ringside and is distracted. Casey takes advantage of that and rolls Garvin up for the 1-2-3! Scott Casey retains the American belt as the fans cheer! Garvin chases Gino away afterwards!
10.      Chris Adams defends his NWA Junior Heavyweight belt against Mike Graham in an excellent scientific match. It’s clen wrestling all the way and Adams retains by reversing a rolling reverse at 10:29. Both men receive a standing ovation after the match.
11.      BATTLE ROYAL
(order of elimination)
1.      The Sheik(by Bobo Brazil)
2.      Nikolai Volkoff(by Sgt. Slaughter)
3.      Nelson Royal (by The Convict)
4.      The Convict (by Bobo Brazil & Salvatore Bellomo)
5.      Don Kernodle(by Killer Khan)
6.      Giant Baba (by Andre)
7.      Bobo Brazil ( by Abdullah The Butcher)
8.      Salvatore Bellomo(by Gary Young)
9.      Gary Young/Scott McGhee(by each other)
10.      Ricky Gibson (by Antonio Inoki)
11.      Sgt. Slaughter (by Khan & Abdullah)
12.      Abdullah the Butcher (by Andre The Giant)
Finally, it comes down to Killer Khan, Antonio Inoki, and Andre. Khan and Inoki form an alliance against the Giant, but Andre knocks their heads together and then tosses Khan over the top. Inoki lands a series of solid kicks, but Andre stops one of the kicks by grabbing the Japanese great’s ankle. Andre swing Inoki around by his leg before dropping him over the top rope to win the battle royal!

12.      The NWA World Tag Team Title match is next. Jim Cornette introduces the Midnight Express as “what your Mom really wants for Mother’s Day!” and they come out to take on Steamboat & Youngblood. This is an incredible match as both teams score several near falls. The Midnights isolate Steamboat for  several minutes and he takes a ton of punishment. Finally, Youngblood makes the hot tag and comes in to clean house on Bobby and Dennis! Cornette trie to interject his tennis racket, but Youngblood gets ahold of it and cold cocks both challengers, leading Bronco Lubich to DQ Steamboat & Youngblood at 17:56!
13.      Sgt. Slaughter takes on Ivan Koloff(w/Homer O”Dell) in a Russian chain match. This is absolutely brutal and both men are a bloody mess after five minutes or so. Finally, after 13 minutes of action, Slaughter stuns Koloff by touching all four corners and beating him at his own match!Nikolai Volkoff runs in and attacks a weakened Slaughter, but Kernodle runs in with a chair and the Russians make a hasty retreat.
14.       Kevin & Kerry Von Erich team with Scott Casey to defend the International Six Man trophy against Nikolai Volkoff, Chick Donovan, & Rick Von Erich (w/Homer O’Dell).  After 9:45 of mostly brawling, Kerry pins Donovan with the iron claw to give his team a successful title defense.
15.      Time for the main event cage match for the NWA World Title between David Von Erich and challenger Bruiser Brody. David rides a horse to the ring as “Texas When I Die” blasts through the stadium. Before the match, B arry Windham enters the cage to wish both men luck and make a public challenge to the winner. David shakes his hand, but Brody attacks him and throws him out of the cage door! This match is brutal as Brody goes on the offensive first and delivers a vicious beatdown to the champ. David comes back and actually tries to wrestle with Brody, but that doesn’t seem to be on the agenda. At one point, Brody slams David’s head into each side of the cage and hits a HUGE kneedrop, but only gets a two count! Brody continues to punish the champ and goes for the win with a backbreaker! David has taken a terrible beating and it looks bad! David stretches his long legs and pushes off of the cage with his feet to get of off Brody’s shoulders! After firing away with a series of punches, David throws Brody face first into each side of the cage and then applies the IRON CLAW! The claw brings Brody to his knees, but he won’t submit! David finally forces Brody to his back! One….two….THREE! DAVID VON ERICH MAKES AN AWESOME COMEBACK TO DEFEAT BRUISER BRODY AND RETAIN HIS WORLD TITLE!!!!!!

Sorry you had to wait so long. Been a rough couple of weeks. Didn't realize how many matches I had booked until I started writing. I'll try to catch up this week.

In his heart he really wants to be there and connect with the fans.

But his body won't let him.. He thinks he can but in reality he really can't.

We went down the same road too.. and he wanted to try and come back as well. Just can't take the risk because the fans just dont understand..

Wonder who the hooded figure is. Nice nood to Robinson and Grambling. A hallmark to your writing. IS beggiing to get Davidson and Crockett saying no was priceless. Larry Z and Steve O is going to be a cerebral slugfest. Weaver vs. Hawk always wins. Wahoo and Mark are in the Anderson's heads. Hoping Atlas pops Hogan's head like a zit.

Great TV.

Nice win by Sharpe on the undercard. I really do like what you do with the ladies division. Ruuk is one crazy dude but he will give your juniors some pizzaz. Adias needs something. Maybe a program with Buddy. Great swan song from Powers. Sheik Ali is totally ready.

Shaw and Bad News being paired together sure seems to be intense already. The tried and true rub of getting pinned in a tag match furthers Sawyer vs. Paterson. Liked the intensity of Blair's comments. Hoping for more from this heel Polish Prince.

Impressive wins by Bravo and The Warriors. Seeing Tonga taken out like that sends the message of the night. The Herders are for real and here to stay. Interesting to see Christy and Douglas/Steiner on the same card. Wonder what the locker room discussions were about. Williams and Kox together is still fun.

Neidhart vs. Williams is an interesting pairing of bedlam. Christy being interested in Douglas and Steiner could prove very intriguing. Fever indeed! Still, I can't wait for Bravo and Landel. The Warriors seem to want to take on everybody. Good thing they have Ellering to think for them. Tonga may make life miserable for Tyler.

Absolutely shocked at Patterson't interview. I can't believe he told those blatant lies. Good response from JYD. The continuing thread about the Friday results was good to see, as well. Liked the confrontation between Buck and Mid-South. The tag win by Brown and Cash was impressive.

Good show.

Boy, T-Bolt may regret his decision to back Kamala now since they both are getting beat up. I would like to see Roberts and Hart involved in a program. Lots of potential there. Brown and Porkchop need to build off the non- title win. Hoping to see more of this back and forth rivalry between Robley and Mr. Mid-South.

Good shows. Welcome back again.

Patterson will have his revenge and the Mad Pup will be kicked outside. Kinda surprised to see Martel "held off" from saving Patterson. Bad News is living up to his name. One thought though, and it's not a criticism just a thought, most times a "mark fan", even one well trained, shouldn't go toe to toe with a wrestler because it makes it seem acceptable for other fans to get involved. That is a very dangerous and libel situation. But being this is fantasy wrestling and not real life, it's all good! Smiley.

well done shows.

Wrestling at the Olympic
presented by
Championship Wrestling from California

Taped 5/26/83
Olympic Auditorium
Los Angeles, CA
Syndicated across California

Announcer: Jeff Walton
Ring Announcer: Jimmy Lennon
Head of Officials: Johnny "Red Shoes" Dugan

The end of last week's edition was shown. California Television Champion "Ultimate Warrior" Bad News Allen was counted out of the ring in a match against Koko Ware after getting distracted arguing with a large fan at ringside.  When he realized what happened, Allen attacked the fan, and a huge donnybrook took place.

"The fan involved, thankfully, was not seriously hurt," Walton said. "His name is Mike Shaw, and he's not interested in pressing charges or filing suit. He's a big fan, and he just wants an apology from the champ."

NWA Representative Red Bastien was out, and announced that Allen has been suspended indefinitely.

"Mr. Allen will have the opportunity to come out here next week and apologize in public," Bastien said. "If he fails to apologize to Mr. Shaw, his contract with Championship Wrestling will be terminated."

"Polish Prince" Ed Wiskoski defeated George Weinegroff in 3 minutes with a face-first piledriver. He threw Weinegroff out of the ring, postmatch.

Brian Blair had words for the Grand Wizard and his charges, King Konga & Kendo Nagasaki.

"It's going to take more than some crazy samurai to keep me back," Blair said. "I will move heaven and earth, go to the depths of hell even, if that's what I've got to do. I will have my justice, and I will have my vengeance, and nothing will stop me."

"Brian, you ain't got' to worry about no Kendo Nagasaki," Bugsy McGraw added. "He can use all the martial arts in the world, you understand, and I'll just match it by hitting him upside the head with a piece of furniture. Oh yeah, baby, we're coming for you!"

United States Junior Heavyweight Champion "Rotten" Ron Starr defeated Gypsy Joe in 6 minutes after a running kneelift. Joe seemed to have the match in hand when the champ's cousin, Chicky Starr came to the ring and shoved him off the top rope, turning the tide.

The Cuban Assassin defeated Samula in 8 minutes with a swinging neck breaker. Samula telegraphed lowering his head, and the Cuban sidestepped him and hit a Russian legsweep to set up the finish. A frustrated Samula kicked over chairs at ringside after the match.

"Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer & Black Bart defeated United States Heavyweight Champion Pat Patterson & Rick Martel in 16 minutes when Sawyer pinned Patterson after hitting him with his chain behind the ref's back.

Good win for Sheik Ali. I kinda' hope the Johnny Powers ear is over. Although not actually that old, his career had passed its sell-by date at this point IRL.

Then again, everyone wants me to retire Pat Patterson (who could still go at this point!) so what do I know?

MAPLE LEAF NEW NWA CANADIAN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP

Sheik Ali

Your a gent as always Red.  Have fun with motherly Mae.  Funny, I remember Lintz as Ali Khan in AWA briefly.  I never did decide how "non-white" he was.  Between my eyesight and a German name, he could be Marlene Dietrich's twin for all I know.

Another good house is just returning to their seats after their version of the anthem.  Good old Norm Kimber is really being stern about the "no throwing objects" policy.  We have someone with something more interesting to say - DEBBIE COMBS.

"Lookie here, everyone, JIST because Joyce Grable says she don't LIKE me, I AIN'T tucking my tail 'tween my legs - AWWW, SHUT UP! - an' leavin'.  There's somebody on the program AIN'T showed up!  An' Miss High-Falutin' Grable IS here.  So do you idiots want a cancelled match filled up with a wholllle lotta NOTHIN'...or a CHAMPIONSHIP match?  I'll be heah, an' we'll see what Joycie thinks!"

Norm advises that the card is INDEED, subject to change.

Match 1 - Dave Viking submits Joe Abbey @ 10:10 with a bearhug.
Wild-eyed, noisy, scruffy, bearded Dave makes a big debut.  After the "I quit", Abbey gets hosed with a clothesline.

Match 2 - "Iron" Mike Sharpe submits The Bulldog @ 12:50
Man in the gold and blue bodysuit gets a slight variation.  After the masked man puts up some shady-tactics resistance, Mike gives him the accessorized-forearm clotheslines, THEN the Full-Nelson.  With NO post-match rough-housing.  Fans are a bit curious where Chumley the Walrus - sorry, GEORGE CANNON - might be.

Professor Ito enters the ring.  Norm has bad news, "car trouble" for Jack Ruffen.  Cue the dancing girls.  Grable out first.  Ito graciously bows & departs.  Joyce is parading her belt and gets smoked by incoming Combs!  Wayne Cashman pries the belt off Joyce's throat & Joyce says she's GOOD TO GO, ring the bell!

Match 3 - Joyce Grable © submits Debbie Combs @ 14:10
A barn-burner with the usual good girl / bad girl nuances.  Joyce with a buckle-whipping series, a monkey-flip & Boston Crabber to retain the bling!

Match 4 - Brian Adias pins The All-American @ 13:50
All-American Boy must have a bus to catch.  Very brief mouthing-off routine before likable Brian slaps the cake-hole shut.  A NASTY affair, Adias lowers himself somewhat to double-A's level but the fans are OK with "fight fire with fire".  Yup, Adias had plenty of tights during the airplane spin, slam AND pin.

Match 5 - Buddy Roberts pins Jack.Armstrong @ 16:00
Sarcastic Buddy laconically does some mockingly-lame jumping-jacks as fitness freak Armstrong approaches.  JACK!  Finally ole Buddy's catch-phrase is relevant.  Except JACK isn't co-operating.  Oh, now it sounds funny when Buddy is on the floor pointing and moaning!  Fans are hooting, Buddy just shakes his head & soldiers on.

Well how 'bout THIS...Jack!  Some face-gouges, throat-thumbs and suchlike get Armstrong down finally, to absorb a flying knee drop off the middle buckle.

INTERMISSION

Match 6 - David Finlay © vs. Java Ruuk w/ Beautiful Bruce

As Mr. Ruuk only debuted today on TV, we need pre-match histrionics.
Ali is on hand as Bruce shouts over the booing that Java is the new force to be reckoned with, indeed the "Arabian Nightmare" of the Arabian Knights.  Yada yada.  Sheik Ali departs to presumably prepare for the marquee feature.  Finlay is out - he confers with Kimber.

"As JAVA RUUK has not had an official weigh-in this is a NON-TITLE bout!"

Bruce has a tizzy, referee Cashman directs the belt be removed to the relative safety (Stop it!  You're killing me here!), the safety of the timekeeper's domain.  And here we go!

The new guy looks about the right weight and crazy enough to fit in nicely.  Finlay plugs away but we are getting the Energizer Bunny routine.  Ruuk comes from allangles and loves it when the fight hits the floor.  High drama!  Finlay has had the sash-strangulation attempt and his european uppercut salvo has Ruuk in trouble!  Bruce remembers the belt and grabs it!

OWWWW!  What a shot!  Finlay, of course, had spun Java around...Ruuk is split wide open.  WHAT a NO-SELL!  DQ bell is the soundtrack as Finlay has Bruce grabbing his leg to occupy him, the ref slides the belt to the vacated mid-ring as he gives the timekeeper the verdict...Ruuk, glassy-eyed, climbs the buckles, wipes blood from his eyes and FLIES!  A big leg-drop...
.
.
.
.
....across the belt!  He picks it up and HEADBUTTS it!  Finlay grabs the belt & tears off as the crowd is in pandemonium!

Result Match 6 - David Finlay defeats Java Ruuk via DQ @ 15:20

Match 7 - Quebec Lumberjacks © (Mike Dubois & Jean Pierre) vs. Aussie Posse (N.F. Charles III & Crocodile O'Day)
NWA CANADIAN INYRTNATIONAL TAG TITLE

AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OY OY OY AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OY OY OY AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OY OY OY

Crowd declines the invite to join in, respond by drowning the chant out with booing.  Mike & J.P. arrive with axe-handles swinging before passing the lumber to ushers.  During the instruction, big Mike sniffs more wood...grabs Charles & pulls a boomerang from the boot and snaps into sawdust.  Belts are whisked away.  Oh will this be as insane as the last match?

ALMOST!  The Thunder from Down Under stay in the thick of it and seize an opportunity whipping the burly woodsmen into each other.  And again!  And...no, three times unlucky!   With a whoop-de-do we get a do-si-do and twin sledge chops to the chest!  A jiggy folk dance & as Norman is resting in the buckles, we get THE SAW MILL!  Dubois headlocks his pal and rams his head to the belly!

The brawl heads to the floor, once and again.   O'Day takes the pinfall eventually, with Mike planting a backbreaker & Jean entering with a second-strand fist-drop.

Result Match 7 - Jean Pierre pins Crocodile O'Day @ 17:10
QUEBEC LUMBERJACKS RETAIN THE TITLES!

AND WE HAVE THE MAIN EVENT< FOLKS!

Match 8 - Johnny Powers © vs. Sheik Ali w/ Beautiful Bruce
NWA CANADIAN HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

No need to reming the fans they are allowed to boo their lungs out.  The Java man has the whole roll of gauze wrapped around the leaking melon.  Ref Yorkston has his mind made up - no bell until Ruuk and the belt are removed and a patdown for bellicose Bruce.

And Ali got a game plan.  A slow controlled pace and he uses te extra weight against any strength advantage for Powers.  Crowd OOOH's as each wins a finger-lacing strength test.  AAAH's as Powers muscles out of a Full Nelson.  But the gambit is working, it seems.  A beargug by Ali with a ramming to the buckles.  He is able to block a lariat & drive a boot to the gizzards.  A big powerbomb and Johnny not quick enough to roll the shoulder!  HOL:Y DOODLE, a clean loss?  Heck, a clean MATCH from the Arabs?

Result Match 8 - Sheik Ali pins Johnny Powers @ 16:10
SHEIK ALI IS THE NEW NWA CANADIAN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!

And Bruce Swayze whips off his honorary burnoose and CAN'T tap his temple enough times!

Broadcast Team: Gene Okerlund and Larry Nelson
Ring Announcer: Roger Kent
Referees: Marty Miller, Larry Lisowski, and Jimmy Bunning[/b]

We go now to WGN Studios in Chicago to our broadcast team Larry Nelson and ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund. They are joined in the opening moments by former AAU wrestling champion Rick Steiner and his tag team partner Shane Douglas. Rick talks about making the transition into pro wrestling, and says he and Shane feel like they are ready to make an impact on this sport. Douglas agrees and says he and Rick have to work their way up the ladder, but they are more than willing to do that in a tough promotion like American Heartland Wrestling.

Rick Steiner and Shane Douglas defeat Cruel Connection I & II at 6:23 when Steiner connects with a belly-to-back suplex on Cruel Connection II. Dr. Paul Christy came out and took notes on this match.

American Heavyweight Champion ‘Crusher’ Blackwell gloats about defeating Mad Dog Vachon in Green Bay. Blackwell says not even a legend like Vachon could put him down for the count! Crusher wants to know who is next! ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund informs him that Jim Brunzell is on his way back to the Heartland and wants a match against him! Blackwell laughs and says that will never happen. Okerlund corrects him and says in fact Brunzell will be here next week on All-Star Wrestling! Crusher says that won’t happen and storms off.

Baron Von Raschke forces Geoff Portz to submit to the clawhold at 6:01.

The Blackjacks join Larry Nelson and say that they want a rematch against “those stinkin’ Road Warriors”. It isn’t long before Paul Ellering leads his team out from the back. Ellering says his team WILL NOT be defending the belts against the Blackjacks again – there are new challengers to face. The interview is interrupted a second time from here as The New Zealand Sheepherders walk out with Tarzan Tyler. Tyler says he agrees with Ellering and so he wants his team to get a shot. The Road Warriors look willing to take on both teams, but Ellering says it won’t happen as he leads Hawk and Animal. The New Zealand Sheepherders and The Blackjacks stared each other down, until Tyler lead his team to the ring.

The New Zealand Sheepherders (w/ Tarzan Tyler) defeat Jake ‘The Milkman’ Milliman and Serge Dumon at 3:34 when Butch Miller comes off the second rope with a flying knee drop on Serge Dumont.

Dino Bravo tells ‘Mean’ Gene Oklerlund that he is sick and tired of the so-called ‘California Nature Boy’ Buddy Landell using dirty tactics to keep his belt. Bravo says he wants Buddy to put his money where his mouth is and defend that gold against him today on All-Star Wrestling. Okerlund informs Bravo that Landell called in sick earlier today, and claimed to have caught a fever. Bravo reacts by saying Buddy is full of B.S. and he won’t be able to run and hide forever!

“Dr. Death” Steve Williams (w/ Coach Karl Kox) defeats Armand Rougeau at 8:13 when he connects with a running power-slam on Rougeau. Dr. Death gloats about beating Jim Neidhart before and after the match.

Commercials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8cInwUc3Kc

VTR: King Tonga is standing in front of the Heartand logo. He says he has let Tarzan Tyler do his talking since coming to American Heartland Wrestling. That time is over. Tonga says he is not like men such as The Sheepherders and Abdullah The Butcher. Tomorrow night in St. Paul, he will team with Mad Dog Vachon against The New Zealand Sheepherders. He promises to get revenge on Tarzan Tyler!

Jim Neidhart defeats The Wildman at 8:23 when he connects with a Canadian back-breaker on Wildman. Neidhart’s head is still taped up and he is all business as he beats his tough opponent.

Commercials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tG0-8D64bk

Larry Nelson and ‘Mean’ Gene Oklerund are joined by a very intense Jim Neidhart in our final moments. Neidhart is stern as he says Dr. Death should feel real proud of himself for how he won in Green Bay. The Anvil promises that when all is said and done, it is going to be Dr. Death who bleeds! Larry Nelson and ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund promote tomorrow night’s live card and they also remind us that Jim Brunzell will be back next week!

58  NWA Wrestling Classics - You Be The Booker! / It's Showtime! / AWA Mid-South TV 5-18. Reprecussions from Friday.
 on: May 23rd, 2013, 5:54pm
Started by Watts fan | Post by Watts fan

5/18

The following Television Broadcast was taped on the morning of May 18th,1983 at the Irish McNeil Boys Club in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Your announcers for today’s broadcast are Boyd Pierce and ‘Cowboy’ Bill Watts. Ring annoucer is Reiser Bowden,
Your referees for today’s matches are Alfred Nealy, Mac Murray, and Frankie Caine.

The American Wrestling Association is proud to be the sanctioning body for MID-SOUTH WRESTLING.

Giving Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas the absolute best in professional wrestling.

The show opens with Junkyard Dog pinning AWA World's Heavyweight Champ Jerry 'The King' Lawler in  the Superdome Friday, May 17 when Kamala and Kiim Gee broke up the pin and attacked JYD. Thunderbolt Patterson enterted to try to stop the fighting but finally joined Kamala and Kim Gee in tripling teaming the Dog as we see highlights of classic Mid-South action over the voice over we fade into a shot of Boyd and the Cowboy at the Mid-South desk as the fans applaude.

Seated with Boyd at the desk is Bill Watts son Joel who will be filling in for a while today while The Cowboy conducts interview with the parties involved in last Friday niht's Superdome Main Event. They go to a tape of Bill and the Mid-South camera crew entering the heels dressing room immediately following the controversial main event. Bill asks to talk with Lawler about what happened in the main event. Watts wants to know if the King knew what was going on or to the champs face, did he plan this to cause a disqualification to keep the belt. Jerry innocently says he know nothing about what happened at the end of the match. The King didn't event talk with those two anytime before the match. He doesn't care about the Dog's problem with Kamala & Kim Gee. And apparently, JYD has done something tick off T-Bolt as weel. Lawleer says he is innocent and has no more to say in the matter. And he excuses himself. Bill says he will give the World's Champ the benefit of the double so Watts says he will go to the source Thunderbolt Patterson.

We go back to the desk where Bill has joined Boyd & Joel. The Cowboy tells the fans he has know T-Bolt for many years and even tag tteamed with him in Georgia in the past. He says Patterson has always walked to a different drummer but he has never seen him act the way he did last Friday night. So Watts says he is scheduled to interview Thunderbolt Patterson next and tells matchmaker'Grizzly' Smith to send him out.

T-Bolt, wearing shades now, comes out and joins Bill. Watts asks T-Bolt point black, 'What the hell happened last Friday night between him and the Junkyard Dog. Watts, sayd while Kamala & Kim Gee were responsible for costing The Dog the World's belt, you came in to try to stop it but you turned on JYD and attacked him along with Kamala & Kim Gee. How do you justify that?  Patterson acknowledges first that he and The Cowboy have been friends and tag teamed together. But right now, T-Bolt says it was a matter of doing what was right with Kamala. Kim Gee was like a slave owner, mistreating Kamala and Patterson said he could not stand bye and do nothin' 'bout it. And T-Bolt said he learned later on that Porkchops Cash & Brickhouse Brown and the Dog were making fun of Kamala, a brother, back in the dressing rooms. Patterson says he could not stand that either. T-Bolt says he told Kim Gee and Kamala what the other brothers were sayin about him beind his back. Kamala was furious and even Kim Gee did not realize that he had been mistreating Kamala. So when he came after Kamala & Kim Gee, he intended to help Kamala and the Junkyard Dog. But T-Bolt says that the Dog shoved him away not once but twice. The second time that 'Uncle Tom' put his hands on me, I did what I had to do.'

Major part of the program deals with what happened during the AWA World's Heavyweight Title Match between champ Jerry Lawler and challenger Junkyard Dog. With run-ins by Kamala, Kim Gee and Thunderbolt Patterson and all 3 attacking JYD after the match.

Commercial break includes interviews for local shows

Before the first match, Hiro Matsuda, Tokashisi. Kawada(new Mid-South Tag Team Champs), Tatsumi Fujinami (Mid South Jr. H. Champ) & Jumbo Tsuruta (new Louisiana Heavyweight Champ) join Boyd & Joel at the desk to talk about their championships. Matsuda says they will be champs as long as they want. And Fujinami will beat Tiger Mask for the AWA World's Jr. H. Belt) that next time thye meet.

Commercial break includes interviews

The Cowboy is back ringside and calls out Junkyard Dog to get his comments on what happened in his World's Title Match against Jerry 'King' Lawler. Dog says he is disappointed with the loss but not as disappointed as he is with Thunderbolt Patterson. Dog says he looked up to T-Bolt as he did coming up with Bobo Brazil and Ernie 'Cat' Ladd. JYD says he listened to what Patterson said ealier on and said, 'It's not true. Never has the Dog, Porkchops or Brickbouse ever made fun of anyone, especially another black athlete. Most of us came up the same way and we know how hard it was for each of us to make a name for ourselves in this business. That kind of remark is plain wrong and insulting. The Dog adds he has nothing else to say and quietly leaves ringside. Watts adds there are still questions that need to be answered. May they can patch things up but it maybe too late now.

Commercial break includes interviews for local shows

Six Man Non-Title Tag Team Match. 1-fall 10-minute time limit. AWA World Six Man Tag Team Champs the Spoiler (Don Jardine), 'Maniac' Mark Lewis & The Great Kabuki w/mgr. Commercial break includes interviews for local shows

Single Match. 1-fall 10-minute time limit. Col Buck Robley cheated with a handful of trunks to steal a victory from Tom Pritchard. (7:45).

Following the match, Mr. Mid-South (Paul Jones) comes out and accuses Robley of using that loaded armband after their match last Friday where Mr. Mid-South defeated Yellow Belly Robley. And angry Buck denies he loads his arm brace then says the referee helped Mr. Mid-South beat him. The masked man says if Yellow Belly would like, he would be winning to step back in the ring with him next week and see if his win over Robley was a fluke. Robley says he will accept!

Commercial break includes interviews for local shows

Jumbo Tsuruta (La. H. Champ) went to a double count out with Jake 'the Snake' Roberts at the 14:42 mark.

Don Diamond over Mike Stallings with the sleeper at the 10:14 mark.

Like I said I have been to about every Fanfest and know not to expect big names like undertaker, etc. so don't push that on me please.
I thought the forum was to be able to post thoughts, ask questions and get feedback and not get badgered for it.

Again I am not saying your doing a bad job nor attacking you. If it seems that way please just take it as constructive critism and let it go.

I totally understand the theme and what you are doing. Just asking how soon we will see more guests and  sure you are working on a special guest like a piper or Hayes like you did in the past.

Thank you and have a nice day sir! Smiley

Robert, I'll take whatever criticism you have, and no one here has told you what you can or can't say. I've told you what I won't say. I won't tease guests that aren't confirmed.

Badgering is asking the same question over and over and over. "How soon are we gonna see more guests?" is a question I've answered for you more than once. More than twice. The answer never changes. We announce at least one new guest every week.

I don't take it personal, and my responses aren't intended to be personal. They're just repetitive.

A great main even for a great card.  I'm happy that there will be more Haynes vs Stasiak action.  Feels like this feud is going to need some kind of gimmick match to end things.

Some great interviews and action coming out of this show. I enjoyed the Viet Congs, and Jack Armstrong has always been one of my guilty pleasures since seeing him in the early 80's. Some referees or wanna be refs need to mind their own business. NFC3 rules by the way.

What a wild ending to the show. I'm really excited to see Rodz getting that push in a character he portrayed well. Ruuk & Powers angle was great!

What happens next with Cannon? I'll be tuning in to find out!

I've seen everyone of Mike's updates and were great! I know when you are about to announce someone you give hints and yes not until confirmed. You used to in the past try to get fans more involved to ask who they might like to see within reason, etc.  Haven't seen much of that this year other then edge.  Was just making a comment to see what updates are coming since only 17 guests are announced and a few vendor guests. We all love what you do and coming to Fanfest! Just want to get more updates so the fans that travel far don't come due to many guest repeats. In no way trying to criticize just asking and trying to be helpful since I have been to all Fanfest and talk to many guests.

Thank you!

Robert, for months you've wanted "updates" on your terms. I'm sorry the weekly updates haven't been good enough for you.

Repeat guests? I've heard that for years, and no one will ever be completely happy with any guest lineup. But for two years the theme has been Mid-Atlantic Memories. That's your hint, Robert. Folks that wrestled here in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Get it?

I can't control vendors. The convention landscape as it relates to vendors has changed over the years.

Repeat guests is another big consideration for vendors. In nine years of vending at other conventions and taking vendor guests to them, I've lost a lot more than I've made. I suspect real vendors with real merchandise are doing well. Those whose primary product is selling the autographs or photo ops of their guests I'm sure have experiences as a vendor similar to mine.

Then there are other vendors whose primary products are copies of licensed products. If you don't know or haven't heard, quite a few of those folks were busted at the latest convention up north during Wrestlemania weekend. Many had their merchandise confiscated and are awaiting a trial.

Fact is, Robert, if you're not sold yet on the fanfest experience and the theme of this year's event, you probably won't be. We're 2+ months and counting. If you're expecting the Undertaker, Edge or Kevin Nash, that ain't happening. Every guest we have, even those that went on to be big stars elsewhere, were first stars here in the Mid-Atlantic. That's our theme, and there's your hint! Smiley

I hope you can be with us in Charlotte.

You've missed Mike Mooneyham's weekly announcements?

Never, ever have you been given hints on guests being worked on.

We announce guests when they're 110% confirmed. That's been our policy from the beginning. Why would anyone ever hint or tease a guest that wasn't confirmed?

Really liking all that I'm seeing in Cali. Buzz and Patterson could be the classic feud for Pat to transition out of the spotlight in. Liking the slow build for the Polish Prince. Will be interested to see if he comes in face or heel. Rick Martel is positioned nicely for your future as the heir to Patterson's spot as top face.

Very well paced. Looking forward to more CWC awesomeness.

Non-title matches aside, you can count on The Andersons when the titles are on the line. Impressive win by Steve O over Ole. I can just feel the anger of the fans against George Scott. Larry Z is leading a charmed life with that TV belt. Youngblood with a nice win in the six-man.

Great shows.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the Jarrett & Tojo segment, you executed it Perfectly. You put over their friendship as something beyond wrestling and it added a personal dynamic to a wrestling angle.

God promos by Hart & Lawler as well.

Great win for Dundee at the Coliseum, what a gigantic card that was!!! Fabs & Funks, Flair & Lawler, Dundee & Savage... Your roster is criminal with talent!

We open the show with Milt & Ron suggesting the tag team scene is experiencing some interesting changes.

MA:  "Two newer teams squared off in Windsor with the Viet Cong Express taking on the team known as the NEW GENERATION, young Kiniski and Mosca.  That match determined nothing, though".

RM:  "And on last week's episode, the former champs from Mongolia may have found a friend..."

Buddy Roberts strolls out.

BR:  "Ito speaks their lingo, whoop-de-do.  HE can figger out how to feed those bottomless pits!  Hey, I WAS a good friend to them, wasn't like they were ever on the same wavelength.  But playin' baby-sitter ain't what Buddy Roberts is cut out for, JACK!  WHEN are we gonna hear about this NEW Empire title gettin' decided?"

MA:  "Buddy is referring to the BRITISH EMPIRE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP belt.  It was presented to us by Max Crabtree in Ottawa but is as yet, still VACANT.  That is a timely question.  I believe we'll have an announcement next week.  BUT, Buddy, I am pretty sure it will be restricted to citizens of the Commonwealth...Canada, England, Australia and so on..."

Buddy shifts his wad of gum.

BR:  "Ain't nothin' I go BRAGGIN' on, Jack.  But I DO have dual citizenship.  What I'll DO while I wait for the wheels to turn is THIS!  I KNOW Johnny Powers is a local boy, I'll put out a proposition - I'll face HIM on TV, NEXT week!"

RM:  "Buddy, HAS there been a formal agreement taken place with Ito & Kowalski regarding the Mongol boys?"

Buddy chuckles,  "Mighta been a few bucks change hands...BUT, Kowalski?  Mr. Personality?  I ain't talked to him at all..."

Norm Kimber is back!

Match 1 - Viet Cong Express (Ho Chi Lau & Ho Chi Win) vs. The Bulldog & Joe Abbey
One fall 10 minutes  Referee Terry Yorkston

RM:  "Four big men in the ring, and I understand a big, wild man named Dave Viking is headed this way.  He did some training in Calgary, but has drifted over to Europe for what is looking like a promising career".

Abbey has take the early brunt, and looks about ready to just walk away from the Asian buzzsaws.  Masked Bulldog is faring a tad better.  For a short while.

RM:  "In fact, I understand that the Calgary wrestlers were NOT sad to see Viking leave...a real bruiser...oh, this is REAL unpleasant!"

It's a warm day, Bulldog in full bodysuit, the Congs are all sweated up...they have Bulldog trapped in DUAL bearhug...front & rear.

RM:  "They call this THE SWEATBOX!  Something out of a POW camp, maybe!  Yorkston gets the break but the damage is done!"

Bulldog just drops to the mat.  A sharp kneedrop gets a reflex twitch but this is an easy pin.  Abbey has no interest in playing hero.

COMMERCIAL 1 - Maple Leaf Foods, our weiners are the CHAMPIONS of hot dogs

RIGHT to match 2?  Are we double-parked?

Match 2 - Jack Armstrong vs. The All-American
One fall 10 minutes  Referee Danny Marsh

Armstrong is hot to trot, he snags Norm for a handshake & gets the mic.

JA:  "Good meeting you, Norm.  You were off last week and missed me making a challenge to that ALL-AMERICAN kid.  NOW, I hear the story is he's Bobby Backlund's BROTHER!  Norm, I don't know what the Canadian term is, baby, WE call it BULL..."

NK:  "FEATHERS!  Interesting HE is going by the name ALL-AMERICAN and WAY back when there was a very popular RADIO show called "Jack Armstrong, the All-American Boy".  Very ironic!"

JA:  "I ain't that old yet, BUT I know about that...THAT kid on radio WAS polite and respectful, NOT like..."

Blaring "Young Americans" and the star-spangled stinker enters, feigning a bellyache.

AA:  "STOP IT, stop the MUSIC, too...you're talking about a RADIO show?  Oh, tell us MORE GRAND-PA!"

Norm not pleased but Armstrong pipes up.

JA:  "Like I said last week, son - you are getting paid by these Canadian fans, they don't pay to see an a$$..."

AA:  "HOLD on!  You DARE call BOB BACKLUND a liar?  You, buddy, can apologize for THAT ignorant comment!"

JA:  "Ain't ignorant, I been in locker rooms with Bob for YEARS, he NEVER mentioned a brother.  Mind, a brother like YOU, I'd keep my mouth closed, too..."

Armstrong removes a "Gold's Gym" sweat top & Norm is impressed by the rack revealed.

NK:  "For a man of ANY age, that is a well-developed physique!"

JA:  "I'm NO youngster but since I moved to Cali, I been hooked up with folks REALLY take care of their bodies, fitness, weight work...it's real big there, in Santa Monica, Venice Beach Marina Del Rey.  Sonny boy IF you EVER had a body worth SPIT, you'd best look after it!"

All-American Jim Backlund has HIS jacket off and takes a swing!  DUCKED by Jack and away we go!

RM:  "I do know of Armstrong competing in the WWF for some time under a different name, I am a bit hazy on his reference to bodybuilding in California".

MA:  "He told ME, he's waiting for his big break in Hollywood, as well (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/more-sports/wildman-jack-armstrong-wrestles-hu lking-plans-article-1.431848).  For a man we don't know a whole lot about, he's showing US...AND "Mr. Backlund" a thing or two!"

All-American has tried some quick, agile moves but the older grappler manages to counter well.  Bulging arms are put to good use with armbars putting a grimace on the usually-cocky young face.  BUT!

MA:  "Someone is out - WHO IS THIS MAN? - he's climbed the top buckle...OJ!  A suicidal dive onto BOTH men...DARN, we need a commercial!"

We head to break with dazed All-American rolling to the floor and Armstrong getting stomped.  By an olive-skinned bearded man with wild dark hair, wearing baggy pantaloons with a sash.

COMMERCIAL 2 - Sponsored in part by Lotto 6/49, this Saurday's jackpot is estimated at a big, BIG 2.7 million dollars!

We return to mid-ring, Norm tries the house events schedule, but Sheik Ali enters!

Ali:  "You ONLY need mention TONIGHT in Toronto, I WILL beat Johnny Powers!"

NK:  "I don't know, Ali - Johnny is REALLY steasmed how you & THE SHEIK attacked him in Windsor!  Come ON, brass knuckles AND The Sheik pretending to be a dame!"

Ali waves to the entrance.

Ali:  "The Sheik HATES Johnny Powers, reminds him of Watson, Kiniski, all the goody two-shoes here!  But The Sheik is GENEROUS and KIND, he left me a gift...A TREASURE!"

Grinning Bruce brings baggy-pants guy back out.

BB:  "This is "The Arabian Nightmare" JAVA RUUK!  Between Ali and Runk, things are going to be run a little BETTER around here, Normie-poo!"

No comment from the wild-eyed newcomer.  But, do you want comments?

AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OY OY OY AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OY OY OY

And waltzing to the ring are O'Day and Charles!

NFC3:  "Go run your mouth at a herd of camels, you filthy blighters!  We didn't much care for your pal The Sheik, costing The Croc HIS match with Powers!  And this is OUR time, Go on get out while you still can!"

CO:  "So Ali has stated that this time next week, HE'LL have Powers' belt?  Fact is, mate, NEXT WEEK, it's US holding the TAG straps, NOT the Quebec hooligans...run along and keep your big 'airy noses out of our business!"

Ruuk wants to GO, Bruce & Ali ponder and decide they will leave.

RM:  "Fans, you KNOW how it goes on "Superstars"!  We need to take a break before we start this match!"

COMMERCIAL 3 - The new BIGGER Oh Henry! bar , IT'S BIG! (featuring the Kelly Twins)

Match 3 Tim Gerrard vs. Crocodile O'Day
One fall 10 minutes  Referee Danny Marsh

Gerrard appears - Marsh pats down O'Day, as Tim climbs the apron, Charles clips him with the boomerang!  Gerrard is groggy for his patdown & the bell!

MA:  "The Thunder from Down Under are extremely sneaky, the Quebec Lumberjacks need to best be wary".

John Bonello is out!  He is keeping a hawk-like stake-out of Norman.  O'Day takes full advantage of the stacked deck.  Thesz Press downs Gerrard, good grip of the trunks aids the pin.  Charles in to celebrate.  Bonello in to confer with Marsh.

TM:  "Referee Dangerous Danny was one of the few who did NOT see the boomerang.  Unfortunately, Bonello's eyewitnessd account will be struck from the record..."

Charles sounds like Hamilton Burger with an OBJECTION!

NFC3:  "We've been interrupted ONCE by the desert rats, YOU can stuff a sock in it TOO!  We checked, you are NOT a referee anymore, so don't try pulling any strings, lad!"

Bonello has a problem.

JB:  "In Windsor, you slugged Randolph Scott with brass knuckles, now this!  When Scott is ready, we'll TRY taking you two THUGS down - fair & square...if that phrase means ANYTHING to you!"

Aussie Posse leaves in disgust.

Norm K. is concerned.

NK:  "John, do you mean Scott is hurt?  That will set back your plans to work as a tag team..."

JB:  "He is seeing a specialist this week, he's had severe headaches since that lousy suckerpunch from O'Day.  BUT I was NOT out to be a referee, Danny Marsh doesn't need my help.  I want to challenge the ARABS!  Another lowdown guy says he's a NIGHTMARE?  I checked, Bruce the goof HAS signed him and I want to see what he can do when he takes on someone face-to-face!"

MA:  "We DO have an opening on the show, we'll see if the Arabian Knights accept that challenge!

We now have Kimber with a TAPED the schedule!

We are at Maple Leaf Gardens TONIGHT!  Powers versus Sheik Ali, Quebec Lumberjacks versus The Aussie Posse!  Monday in Picton, Wednesday in Brockville, Thursday in Cornwall and NEXT Saturday in Kingston.

Kimber IS jinxed!  We have the Canadian Commando Patrol!  The chocolate bar twins carry the colors & Sharpe assists the huffing & puffing Generalissimo in.

GGC:  "I AM IRATE - NO build-up for a MOMENTUOUS occasion, with Mike Sharpe taking the television title!  AUSTRALIANS getting big title matches, MORE Arabs riding in on their smelly camels!  MILTON!"

Cannon directs his IRE at former mic partner.

GGC:  "Canada's GREATEST ATHA-LETE got powder thrown in his eyes WEEKS ago by ITO!  Did you ONCE tell the fans WHERE to send their flowers and cards?  NOT a word!  You kow-tow to the likes of Roberts, the new guy Armstrong...and HIM!"

Rocky Ed Boulder is striding to the ring, TV belt on his broad shoulders, vacant expression on his face...

GGC:  "There was a BRILLIANT suggestion that pretty-boy Boulder JOIN the CCP, have we heard more about THAT?  A SPLENDID opportunity for the young American HEEEEE-ro to be an auxiliary member, an associate of Cannon's Calvary..."

The Patrol looking embarassed by the frothing rant, Ed looking baffled, bewildered and dubious.

REB:  "Ssy WHAT, General?  ME join YOU?  Hmmm, can't say I heard NOTHING like that..."

Norm explains.

NK:  "It WAS...sort of an off-hand comment, wishful thinking, maybe...from NONE OTHER than General Cannon!  Really, George, YOU were the only one with that nutty idea..."

George gets purpler-fsced.  Errr, more purpley...he wipes his quivering whiskered jowls, flecked with spittle.  Taps his helmet with a shaking finger.

GGC:  "NUTTY?  A master plan, hatched HERE by a military genius!  Speak up and JOIN us, Boulder!"

Rocky ponders.

REB:  "I dunno...don't really care for that tone of voice, neither!  I SEEN your guys, they HAVE been kinda stand-up sometimes...other times?  Wellll....lemme think here..."

George got the deal done!  He grins as we have but a mere formality?  NOPE!  Rocky was quick mulling it over.

REB:  "NOPE, can't say I wanna have someone telling me what to do!  The FANS seem happy enough with what I manage on my own..."

Fans agree!

ROCKY!  ROCKY!  ROCKY!  ROCKY!
ROCKY!

YOU CREEP!

Last is directed at CANNON!  He removed his silver-plated helmet and has clocked the ungrateful American over the head!  He's ordering the troops to ATTACK!  The boys are STUNNED!  They instead hustle the codger out of the ring...

RM:  "Rocky is bleeding, he was JUST about to face Sharpe in a GOLDEN LADDER match...Doc Morgan is in the ring!"

Big red "X" covers the prone Eddie being attended to.

MA:  "FANS!  We urge you for PETE'S SAKE, PLEASE!  NEVER throw objects into the ring - at the studio or live shows...ANYWHERE!  NEVER!  This is chaotic...get the STANDBY tape!"

RM:  "Oh, Dr. Morgan was hit by an ice cream on his way in...what, Norm?  ROCKY ROAD?"

COMMERCIAL 4 - Hinterland Who's Who, the Northern Pike

Video clip rendition of Joyce Grable facing Debbie Combs.

Combs is determined to make a lousy impression here with her dirty tactics & high-falutin' attitude.  Grable perseveres for a clean suplex & pinfall.

"MA:  "That WAS a successful title defense by Joyce Grable taped a week ago - Joyce has told Miss Combs she is HIGHLY unlikely to get another title shot anytime soon".

Combs belts Grable with a sucker punch during the arm-raise.

Mike Sharpe escorts General Cannon to the announce desk!

GGC:  "Milt, Milton...I got the word in the back, Mike's match with Boulder is postponed, unforeseen circumstances I think they are calling it.  It's as if it was my fault...oh, I had to BEG McTavish, I had to LOWER myself yo plead it wouldn't be CANCELLED!  WHAT was I thinking?"

MA:  "We were wondering about that, ourselves!"

GGC:  "Miltie, Milt...and the FANS! - I have to apologize, I am SO ASHAMED!  I THINK my water-retention problem, the new medication..."

MA:  "Well thanks for MY apology...what about apologizing to Mr. Boulder?"

GGC:  "I...I'll make it RIGHT by him!"

He thinks.

GGC:  "The match is rescheduled for NEXT week!  He can think ALL week about it...I CAN give him a SECOND chance!  Mr. Boulder, I am SO SORRY, to prove I am SINCERE...the TV title match will have a stipulation!  That's BRILLIANT if I say so myself!  I know you have your pride, I won;t embarass you!"

RM:  "A stiplulation?  What are you thinking NOW?"

GGC:  "If Mike beats Boulder, he HAS to join my team!  That is SO fair, he WON'T miss his chance, ehhh, Milt?  It's a good thing General George Cannon is here to sort things out!"

As we hear the crowd reaction, Milt gives a subtle signal to bewildered Iron Mike...he leads the genius away...

Milt & Ron turn their attention to the Saturday fandango in downtown Toronto.

RM:  "Fans, we have ANOTHER great monthly show planned!  Sheik Ali challenges Johnny Powers for the heavyweight belt, the boisterous boys from Australia challenge The Lumberjacks for the tag titles - also in action will be Mr. Pro, Buddy Roberts, David Finlay & Brian Adias".

And now NORM is in the ring with an interview.  Professor Ito PLUS The Mongolian Horde.  Are my eyes deceiving me or are the wild men looking somewhat more...INTELIGENT today?  Norm seems leery, but they are better-behaved at the very least.

NK:  "Professor, what would an allegedly learned chap such as yourself be doing with these, errr...characters?"

Ito:  "Very interested in TRUTH, curious what talent they DO have.  Mr. Roberts win tag belts with them, but I suspect what you say, smoke and mirrors, perhaps?  No?  Is Roberts a smart man...heheh, look VERY foolish last week..."

NK:  "Well, you joining up with Killer Kowalski, it's NOT a surprise the Mongols would interest you two".

Inscrutable smile by Ito, "Kowalski, he knows nothing.  In fact, he is in Boston, busy so-called training school...how you say, sucker born any minute?  NO, this MY experiment.  NEXT WEEK, test BOTH!  Single matches, see what they can do on own with NO Buddy Roberts".

COMMERCIAL 5 - This portion of the show is brought to you by Canada Dry, the champagne of ginger ales.

Milt is mopping his brow.

MA:  "Thank goodness we had that ladies' title match to show...well, the highlights anyways.  And thank goodness John Bonello IS a character person and we have this next match!"

RM:  "And are we seeing some OTHER folks revealing more of their OWN characters?  The Professor going into business for himself?  And YOUR friend, George Cannon!  WHAT is happening THERE?  You'd think he's seen "Apocalypse Now" a few too many times!"

Match 4 - John Bonello vs. "Arabian Nightmare" Java Ruuk w/ Beautiful Bruce
One fall 10 minutes  Referee Terry Yorkston

John is in the ring - he waves his arms to encourage the BRUUUUCIE chants as the burnoosed & be-robed brain leads his new acquisition out.

RM:  "Java Ruuk has quite a reputation, fans!  He is truly unorthodox & unpredictable, but held a top championship in Montreal a few years ago and has also been a scourge in Los Angeles".

Bonello is deflecting an onslaught of wild kicks and chops as best he can.

MA:  "I'm sure Bonello would prefer having his tag partner, Randolph Scott, on hand to watch his back.  This Ruuk is neither young nor large, but is certainly a fireball in the ring...oh, a good drop toe-hold by John should slow the pace".

RM:  "And we might just have a fast-paced episode of "Superstars of Wrestling" next week fans!  We can confirm Buddy Roberts WILL face Johnny Powers in a HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE match!  IF Gen. General Cannon can be kept under control with his WILD ideass, Ed Boulder WILL face big Mike Sharpe and Dave Finlay will be in action!"

Ruuk uses gouges to thwart Bonello's attempts at scientific mat wrestling.

MA:  "We haven't any confirmation yet...OH, this just came in!  Professor Ito DOES have a test for both Mongols in singles action next week - they face both of the New Generation - Kiniski & Mosca!  Plus, we'll hear about the crowning of the British Empire champion.  Oh, those are some of the most BRUTAL backrakes I've ever seen!"

Diabolical is our new fellow, he has unwrapped the sash from his baggy pantaloons...it fits around Bonello's neck!  Yorkston?  Distracted by Beautiful Bruce...OUT COMES JOHNNY POWERS!

RM:  "Watch out, Johnny!"

Alluding to SHEIK ALI materializing...with evil intentions.  He & Powers in a tussle on the floor with Bruce getting some kicks in.

MA:  "This Ruuk is homicidal...death-defying!"

Java has neutralized Bonello and climbed the top buckle...facing the floor!

RM:  "WE NEED HELP!"

As Boulder has been taken care of already, WHO will ride to the rescue?  THE CANADIAN COMMANDO PATROL!

RM:  "Bruce & Ali had Powers up to take Java Ruuk's suicide dive...BUT!"

The Kellys each grab a leg & Ruuk gets wish-boned astride his perch while Sharpe batters Ali & Bruce away.

RM:  "Well, perhaps I owe CANNON an apology, that was a timely save by his men!"

Oh, REALLY?  We close with a shot of General George at the entrance - he is VERY upset - was this on his orders...or not?

Ole and Arn Anderson faced off against Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, The Rock n Roll Express in a non-title return match from the Tournament of the Carolinas in March.
Arn got on the house mic and told Gibson and Morton he is giving them fair warning to leave the ring before they get hurt. To which, Morton nailed Arn with a shot to the mouth. That seemed to fire up both Arn and Ole as both of them controlled the Express in the early going. Arn seemed especially pleased to be punishing Morton. The fans rallied behind the Express and with a sunset flip on Arn, Robert Gibson got the win for his team at 23:19.

The Iron Sheik put his Mid Atlantic Heavyweight Title on the line against “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas with special Referee Harley Davidson.
Sheik came out with his Iranian flag and saluted it. Then Tony Atlas came to the ring with a US Flag draped over his shoulder. Special Referee Harley Davidson came in wearing sunglasses and a US Flag bandana! The Iron Sheik looked mortified as he realized he was now outnumbered with his Mid Atlantic belt on the line. The Iron Sheik wasn’t able to mount much offense against Atlas who seemed counter most of Sheik’s offense. IS was also flustered by Davidson’s marginally bias officiating. After 17 frustrating minutes, The Iron Sheik left the ring and didn’t return giving Atlas the countout victory at 17:32.

Hulk Hogan w/Buddy Rogers put his United States Heavyweight Title on the line against Wahoo McDaniel with special referee acting NWA Representative George Scott.
Wahoo controlled much of the match until Hogan threw Wahoo out of the ring and busted him open when he posted him. Hogan took the offensive and got several near pins on Wahoo. McDaniel battled back and leveled Hogan with a series of chops.

In a desperation move, Hogan threw Wahoo out of the ring again and while Rogers got the attention of George Scott , Hogan busted Wahoo open again with a chair. But Wahoo battled back. Several minutes later Hogan snared Wahoo in a sleeper. Wahoo was able to shake Hogan off by ramming him face first in the corner. With Hogan stunned, McDaniel went on the offensive beating Hulk around the ring with chops. Rogers screamed for Scott to “Check him” pointing at Wahoo.

With Hogan slumped in the corner Wahoo pulled him and suplexed the big man to the mat. McDaniel went for the pin, Scott jumped down to the referee’s position but instead of counting Wahoo’s shoulders he looked at the challenger’s bloody face. With Hogan out on the mat, Scott stops the match and awards it to the champion at 27:15 “due to too much blood loss from the challenger!”

Wahoo is livid! He stalks Scott who then quickly gets out of the ring. Wahoo turns his attention to Hogan who is being rescued by Rogers. The fans boo Scott, Rogers and Hogan as Wahoo stands in the middle of the ring feeling robbed!

Hulk Hogan w/Buddy Rogers put his United States Heavyweight Title on the line against “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas.
Hogan taunted Atlas before the match but once the match started he was reluctant to lock up with his popular adversary.  About 10minutes into the match, Hogan and Atlas locked up in a test of strength that went on for several long minutes. Finally Atlas brought Hogan to his knees in the fingerlock to the fans delight. Hogan was on the defensive after that as Atlas looked like he would win the title, but Buddy Rogers and Ernie Ladd’s interference at 19:22 prevented that giving “Mr. USA” the win by disqualification.

    “Portland Special”
    Sports Arena
    Portland, OR
    5/21/83

    Don Owen opens the show.

Owen, “We want to thank all the fans for supporting us. We have had some of our biggest cards lately. Jimmy Snuka coming back and now Jesse Ventura has come back. The cation is getting better and better and now Andre the Giant is here. Let's get right to the first match.”

    Opening Match
“Mean” Mike Miller w/Rip Oliver vs. Terry Gibbs

Gibbs is a very underrated wrestler, but Miller is a tough, and talented, veteran. The early moments are very even. Gibbs looks good, but Miller goes to the roughhouse tactics and wins with an elbow drop.
    Winner-Mike Miller

Jesse Ventura is with Don Owen.

Owen, “With me is Jessee Ventura. Jesse you came back here and have told Jimmy Snuka you want his title. Jimmy has to get by the Sheik before he wrestles you.”

Ventura, “I know that Owen! I don't think that banana picker can beat the Sheik. If the Sheik takes the titles, I want him. I want to be on top and make all the money!”

Owen, “Ventura's got a lot of muscles, let's see if he can win tonight.”

    Second Match
    Six Man Tag Team Match
“Hangman” Bobby Jaggers, Matt Borne and Al Madril vs. Rip Oliver, the Assassin, and Mr. Ebony

Referee Sandy Barr will have his hands full in this one. Borne and Madril want the tag titles and Jaggers wants a piece of Oliver. This will be a brawl. Jaggers and Oliver open the match. Both men look good, but Oliver is able to back Jaggers into the corner and now the “Hangman” is in trouble. All three men get in shots. Borne and Madril try to help, but Barr stops them. This allows the Clan in inflict more punishment. Finally, Jaggers breaks free and tags in Madril. The man from Los Angeles cleans house. The Clan confer on the arena floor. They return and the Assassin tags in. He and Madril trade rights and lefts until the masked man staggers back and tags in Mr. Ebony. Madril tags in Borne and Matt is a house afire. He lands a dropkick and covers Ebony. Madril and Jaggers cut off the Clan and Barr counts the fall.
Winners-Bobby Jaggers, Matt Borne and Al Madril

Stan Srasiak is with Don Owen.

Owen, “With me is Crusher Stasiak. Crusher, you've turned your back on the fans. Billy Jack wants to pay you back tonight.”

Stasiak, “I can't believe I ever listen to the fans. They didn't help me when I was a World Champion and they turned their backs on me after we lost the tag titles. It was Billy's fault and everyone blamed me. I beat Billy Jack on Saturday, and I'll do it tonight!”

    Third Match
Jesse “The Body” Ventura vs. Grizzly Evans

The young Evans, a mountain man from Canada, has been undefeated since arriving in the Northwest. The veteran Ventura would like to change that. Evans gives a good accounting of himself. His strength helps him early, but Jesse has been around. He uses several underhanded tactics to trap Evans in the backbreaker. Grizzly fights it, but must submit.
    Winner-Jesse Ventura

Billy Jack Haynes is with Don Owen.

Owen, “Billy Jack Haynes is ready for action. Billy, you heard Stasiak, He blames you and the fans for what he's done.”

BJ, “I respected Staiask, but that's over! I'm ready to beat him and I want revenge! He cheated on Saturday, but you have to be ready for that, and I;m ready.  Stasiak, I want to teach you a lesson and that's what I'm going to do!”

    Semi-Final
Sheik Ali Hasan and Killer Brooks vs. Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka and Andre the Giant

Snuak and Andre are an All Star Tag Team, but you can't forgot about the mysterious Sheik and the ever tough Brooks. Brooks and Snuka open the action. They battle it out and things begin to go the way of the Northwest Champion. Brooks tags in Sheik Ali Hasan, The man from Arabia goes to work and Snuka is in retreat. Andre tags in and the French Giant goes to work. He chops away at the Sheik. Hasan tags in Brooks and the man from Waxahachie , TX reluctantly enters the ring. He has no success against Andre. The Giant tags in Snuka and the Champion is ready for action. We works over Brooks and hits the Superfly Splash for the win.
Winners-Jimmy Snuka and Andre the Giant

    Main Event
Billy Jack Haynes vs. Stan Stasiak

There is pure hatred in this match up. Both men pace back and for while Don Owen does the introductions.  Stasiak outsmarted Billy Jack on Saturday, and he tries it again. He will not lock up with Haynes and ducks out of the ring to avoid the young powerhouse. Finally, Billy traps Stasiak in the corner and goes to work with big rights and lefts. Stasiak is in trouble. He is able to rake the eyes of Haynes and escape. Stan works over Billy with every dirty tick in the book. Stasiak takes him down, cover him and uses the ropes for leverage. Referee Sandy Barr counts two, but then sees the use of the ropes. He stops the count and lectures Stasiak. Stasiak moves in, but Billy meets him with a right and then a left. Stasiak is staggered. Billy scoops him up and slams him to the mat, Haynes goes for the cover, but Stasiak kicks out at two. Haynes tries to whip Stasiak into the corner, but Stan reverses it and sends Haynes into the corner and runs in. Billy moves and Stan crushers into the turnbuckles. Billy Jack lifts Stan up and slams him to the mat. He goes for the cover. Barr reaches two and Stasiak gets his foot on the ropes. Barr does not see this and counts the fall. Billy Jack Haynes wins, but it is tainted. Stasiak argues with Barr, but it does no good. This will not end things.
    Winner-Billy Jack Haynes

After the match, Sullivan grabbed a folding chair from the ringside area and chased the Assassins back to the dressing rooms.

The final moments from last week's show were replayed. United States Heavyweight Champion Pat Patterson pinned the Cuban Assassin by reversing a neck breaker attempt into a backslide. He was immediately attacked postmatch by "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer and left laying.

"Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer pinned Leo Burke after catching him out of nowhere with a powerslam in 8 minutes. Burke missed a leg lariat, then walked into the powerslam.

"Patterson, it's time to go away," Sawyer said postmatch. "I'm gonna' run you outta' here. Your options are retire or get put down, your choice. I hope you wanna' be put down."

The Grand Wizard came to the ring with a man in a kendo suit.

"Brian Blair, you've been sneaking around like a ninja," the Wizard said. "You won't face the Tongan nightmare, King Konga, face-to-face, so you keep attacking him from behind. In feudal Japan, the shoguns had ways of dealing with ninjas.

"They would send a samurai out into the countryside, and they would torch the villages where the ninjas hid, and then, when there was nowhere to go, the would hunt down the ninja and end them. Well, Mr. Blair, this is my samurai, Kendo Nagasaki. He will end you!"

Kendo Nagasaki (with the Grand Wizard) defeated Gene Lewis in 4 minutes with a cobra clutch. Nagasaki attacked at the bell; Lewis stood no chance.

Koko Ware defeated "Mighty" John Quinn in 7 minutes with a dropkick from the middle rope. Ware struggled free from a torture rack attempt and scrambled up the turnbuckle behind Quinn to set up the finish.

A video set to the Polish national anthem played hyping the debut of the Polish Prince.

Brian Blair & Bugsy McGraw defeated Black Gordman & Great Goliath in 9 minutes when Blair twisted out of a Goliath abdominal stretch attempt and into a stretch cradle for the pin.

Kendo Nagasaki watched the match from the entryway.

"You can put any obstacle you want in my way," Blair said. "Nothing's going to stop me from getting to King Konga, and nothing's going to stop me from sending him out on a stretcher the same way he did me."

    - Championship Wrestling from Florida announces that they have secured the rights to stage a "major wrestling event" at the Bahamian National Stadium in Nassau on June 30th of this year. This is contrary to media reports coming from the Puerto Rico-based World Wrestling Council that they will also be in Nassau that day.

"The event they are promoting is booked into the Stadium located in Freeport, not Nassau. When officials with the National Stadium contacted our promoters in Miami asking when we would start advertising the event, we found that this second class, low rent, blood soaked sham of a wrestling event would take place in the Bahamas. This has traditionally been a market served by the Florida Wrestling Office and now that we represent the AWA, someone believes that we won't mind seeing trash dumped in behind us. Well the Bahamas is our backyard and we don't like garbage, or garbage wrestling, in our backyard." said Florida Promoter Eddie Graham

"We will bring the people of the Bahamas traditional, hard hitting, quality professional wrestling. Details will be announced on the upcoming editions of Southern Championship Wrestling broadcast from Miami."
