I'll bet Robinson vs Steamboat was a classic Robinsons' 1 of the greatest European wrestlers of all time how lucky were you to see that

it WAS incredible.
i don't know why it even happened. i don't recall any rhyme or reason. i always figured it was one of those spontaneous bouts or something. that was the only time i ever saw robinson live.

What an amazing card. I was living out of the area then, was this show typical for the time? I'd love to see more results for Greensboro just before and after this show.

And for what it's worth (not much!), I loved the team of Carl Fergi and Ox Baker. Fergi would work his but off (always reminded me of early career Bobby Eaton) and Ox could barely get around anymore, but was so funny and still would scare you to death. I only saw them twice, on visits home during those years, but I just thought they were a really odd and interesting team. Think about it, someone in authority had to sit there and say, "Let's pair up Carl Fergi with Ox Baker and make them Mid-Atlantic tag champions." Great stuff.

i agree, an underrated team.
as for 1/17/82...i have no idea what brought this on. the freebirds had not been to greensboro before (unless you count buddy roberts as a blonde way before then). and never returned until 6/6/87. steamboat vs robinson..i have no clue why that happened. the two opening bouts and the MATT matches were routine at the time, as was flair coming in to fight whoever to defend the title.
the ray stevens-ole anderson fued had begun weeks earlier, so him agaisnt one of gene's men, was the norm.

I would have paid top dollar to see the team of Blackjack Mulligan jr. and Jake Roberts. I think they would have been a great young team. Were heey face or heel?
Wow, just imagine!!! Attention to all of the NWA CLASSICS promoters theis would be one hell of team to have on your rosters in a few years!!!
