As someone else said They all had their own unique gifts they brought to the table but the 1 thing that Roberts brought was experience He'd already been a success as part of the Original Hollywood Blondes back in the 60's

So I'm positive Michael and Terry picked up alot from him

I stand corrected on the timeline it was the early 1970's not 60's Jerry Brown was his partner(another Jerry Brown not the former Gov. of Califonia)They were big in the Mariines, Florida Atlanta, Charlotte(whree they held the Mid-Atlantic tag titles)

There were to my knowledge the 1st team to call themselves the Hollywood Blondes before Pilman and Austin in the Old WCW of the 90's and before Rip Rogers and Ted Oates in the Georgia Territory

Sorry about the timeline mistake Buddy didn't make his debut til 1970

Would have to go with Bam Bam, with Micheal a close second. Roberts was just there. I think Micheal was one of the best ever on the mic. I mean right up there with Flair, Rock, et al. Gordy was great on the mic to but for  different reasons. He was jus unintentionally funny and I loved his accent.
Ring wise though Bammer was the best out of all of them.

Definitely Michael Hayes. As someone mentioned, he was one of the best on the mic. All of you basically hit the nail on the head regarding the Freebirds. Gordy was a great wrestler, and Roberts was "just there". Definitely one of the most underrated teams of that era.

Buddy Roberts debuted in the late 1960s. Here's a result for him from 1968.

3/10/68 Montreal
Dale Roberts beat Matt Gillmore dq

I first saw him as Buddy Smith in the AWA during late 1969.

Without a doubt Michael Hayes would be my favorite Freebird. He definitly had great mic skills..But I also enjoyed seeing Terry Gordy wrestle..R.I.P. Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy.. I think that it would be cool to see the WWE eventually come out with a "Freebirds" DVD set..Hopefully that is in their plans somewhere down the road.

Mostly agree.  Gordy was a monster, and Hayes could rap with the best...But Buddy sold for everybody--an integral part of what made the unit complete...My personal fave was Hayes.

Looks like someone is trying to be funny here...

This is kinda off topic in this section, because "Little Richard" was otherwise known as Rocky King in World Championship Wrestling.  He was ringside for the 'Birds for a short while in WCW.

Well at first my favorite was Michael Hayes, but after hearing him doing comments, Promos where he called the Omni "The Om-i-ni", and the way he did locals for Monday nights, Bell Auditorium in Augusta Ga., it's been Gordy. I also think he evolved into a more well - rounded wrestler than Hayes as the years went by.
I seem to remember from the old Stanley Weston mags that  Buddy Roberts and Jerry Brown had a good run in the Los Angeles territory around '73 - '74..
