I can't remember Gene Ligon's name on any IWA posters or newspaper ads. But during 1976-77, the IWA used several masked guys including the Masked Maulers, Spoilers and the Crusaders. There were probably more that I can't think of right now. Gene Ligon might have been under one (or more) of those
masks. It seems like Johnny Powers used some of the same guys that appeared on shows with Johnny Hunter during this period.

I wrestled my first match professionally with the IWA in Roxboro NC. 1976. No I did not wear a hood I wrestled as Gene Ligon for about 5 months a couple of times a week until the cold night in Kingstreet SC. There I won the title of IWA World JR Heavyweight Champion. I did not wrestle again professionally until 1983 as Gene Ligon with the NWA in Charlotte, NC.
