Both very bad choices. Russo holding the belt was more of a disgrace than anything and him beating Flair here in Richmond for Nitro made my blood boil. Needless to say 6 months after Vince Russo won the belt, WCW was shutting it's doors at a bar in Florida.

I say far as wrestling wise to hold the belt that was the worst was Luger and Hogan.

I'm sure we all desperately try to block out the Arquette & Russo fiascos.... they definitely take the cake. As far as actual wrestlers.... I think Jeff Jarrett did nothing for the World title.... I've never understood what made him so great in the eyes of wcw and nwa/tna (other than tna starting out as his daddy's promotion). To me he had no heat. Well, he had the "bad" heat.... the "we could care less about you" heat instead of the proper "I really want a face to kick your a$$" kind of heel heat.

But as far as wrestlers go the worst in my opinion was DDP. In my opinion, the only good thing he done for this business was bring us Kimberly.

have to disagree. DDP improved VASTLY in a matter of months. not only was he over, but he could actually work the crowd, and work the match. he went from nothing to a top performer in no time, as compared to many.
as for being a world champion..he's not that good. but considering what they had to choose from AT THE TIME, he was a logical choice.

I have to agree on Kevin Nash, he made a lousy champion in WCW. Should have never put him over on Goldberg, the match had a very shitty ending and of course the next week Nash was in the middle of the ring doing the job for Hogan with the 1 finger push that really made Nash winning the belt seem meaningless.

I think DDP did decent as champion and yes he definitely improved over a matter of months and was over big time with the crowd. But to hold the belt a week and then drop it on Thunder to David Arquette in some fucked up match killed the belt then and there for quite some time. Of course Russo winning the belt was worse than Arquette winning it.

Jeff Jarrett did the title some good but not a lot to make it really count, this was in the course of the dying days of WCW as well. But I will not say he was a bad champion, he can actually wrestle. He just needs to stop being loyal to Russo.

Sid I always thought of as a great challenger, he just never delivered as a world champion. He was a big, 6'10 goon with a limited repertoire. If you are going to say Nash was a bad champion then mark Sid down right next to him.

Not only did he not get to beat Flair, but he never even got to win the real belt. That makeshift "World title" belt they threw together (the Florida PWF belt with trophy plates slapped on it) after Ric bolted with the Big Gold looked horrible.

Where I grew up, we didn't get access to WCW until mid-1991, so my earliest memories are of Luger with the belt. Maybe that's why I don't think of him as being such a bad Champion.

I'll go with David Arquette. As entertaining as he is, I just can't see how they thought putting the title on an actor was a good idea! Same thing with Russo, although I wasn't watching when that happened, but I imagine it would've been pretty bad.

Also, how long did Russo hold the title for? Was it just a quick thing, or did he actually have some successful defences of the title?

The David Arquette thing was purely to promote the "Ready to Rumble" movie--WCW was looking to get as much mainstream media attention as possible. Granted, David Arquette is NOT a worker in any sense, but his championship is, IMO, kinda "asterisked." The thing about it is that all money he made from WCW he reportedly GAVE to charity. Sounds kinda likable to me...

I'm in the minority because I enjoyed Jeff Jarrett as champion. He didn't have the big name value as the rest but I did like him as champ. I enjoy him more than Hogan. As for the worst, I'm not counting gimmick reigns such as Russo or Arquette which basically advanced storylines. For actual title reigns, where the powers that be thought the champion could be good, I'd have to pick Sid Viscious. In my opinion, he wasn't championship material. My other pick would be Scott Steiner in 2000. In 1992, it would have worked, but not in 2000.

Everyone who held the belt during that Era scarred the credibility of that title. Flair to me was a great NWA champion, not a great WCW champion.
