Most courteous and appreciative?
Feb 9th, 2007, 5:20pm

Of any/all the wrestlers you have met, who has been the most courteous/appreciative/fan-friendly???

Mine are: (top ten)
Chief Wahoo McDaniel (# 1..the rest in no certian order)
Ric Flair
Ronnie Garvin
Stan Lane
Todd Champion
Ivan Koloff
Tully Blanchard
Barry Windham
The Barbarian
Gene Ligon (VERY outgoing!)

These guys, I met some many times...each time they showed everyone how much they REALLY thank the fans!!!

LOL...I would list the ones whom I met numerous times who were downright rude every time, but I try and not focus on that.

probably the most courteous was jimmy valiant. when my son and i stoped by his house one afternoon. he talked with us for about 45 minutes. jimmy and angel remembered us at one of the shows ward did and again talked with us at length. jimmy and angel would make frequent visits to the restaurant my x-wife ran so we had perhaps had an inside track. jimmy was always soft spoken and very friendly no matter what avenue we encountered him. he made a couple of stops here in my home town of clifton forge va and in covington va where we sat and chatted. he always made me feel like he had enuff time for me and my silly questions
also equally friendly is ivan koloff again i have had to pleasure to visit with him at a couple different walmarts and at one of ward shows. he too always had time for us.
my all time greatest memeory is of talking with the late wahoo at one of gregs shows in lexington va. wahoo talked with me and a friend the whole time the preliminary matches were taking place. you could still c the gleam in his eyes as he told us about the scar and the famous table leg incident. wahoo had found a new love at that time and that was his bass fishing and if i rememeber correctly he was headed to a tournament that weekend and was very excited. wahoo was such a gentleman adn its funny after reading of the roucous lifestyle that is portrayed in flairs book.

I appreciate all whom have posted thus far...keep the stories coming!!!  Seems like the legends are ALL nice in general!!!  One thing I will never figure out, is I know of 2 indy workers, who did a job (one time each) in a big league a few years back and they have the disposition as if they have headlined 35 PPV's in a row...LOL...amazing is it not???

In defense of the remaining 500+ indy workers I have had the pleasure to meet..(some of which "jobbed" on TV MANY times, not once).they all have been as fan-friendly one could ask.  After speaking with many of those also, the 2 "egos" mentioned above treat the other indy workers harsh as well.  But I do not focus on their negative behaviors, in fact, at shows I avoid them.  The point I am making is this...in general, 99.8% of the great people in this sport are genuine!!!!

I haven't met many wrestlers, but I've been lucky to not meet any who were rude.

Jimmy Valiant was great.  I first met him at the local Wal-Mart, doing a signing before an indy show at my elementary school.  I think I was in 5th grade at the time.  I knew the Valiants had been the tag champs in the WWF, and I remembered Jimmy specifically from his feud with Lawler in Memphis (I think that had already happened) so it was a big deal to me that he was there.  I went up and talked to him a bit and got an autograph.  He was very nice and friendly to me, and even recognized me at the show that night.

The Rock n Roll Express were great.  It was a Smokey Mountain show in Jellico, TN.  This was also a big deal for me, because I had watched them as tag champs and their feud with the Midnight Express.  This wasn't all too long after the above mentioned show.  It was at their gimmick table, but I honestly don't remember them charging me anything.

At the same show, Tracey Smothers.  Same deal as the Rock n Rolls.  If anyone that night charged me for an autograph, it couldn't have been more than $1-$2.  He was very fan friendly, and you could tell he enjoyed being there (If you've ever been to Jellico, you could understand how maybe some wouldn't be so enthusiastic.  But it was a pretty good house that night)

"Dirty White Boy" Tony Anthony - You guessed it, same SMW show.  Didn't seem as outgoing as the Express or Smothers, but by no means was he unfriendly.

However, that night goes down in my memory now as the night I, in all my caught up in the moment mark-dom, threw a handful of popcorn at New Jack.  It gave me pause for thought years laters when I watched Beyond the Mat and saw the tattoo commemorating the justifiable homicides.   Grin
