Your First Live Event
Feb 13th, 2007, 12:42pm

Similar to the thread I posted in the WWE folder.

What do you remember from your first JCP / WCW event? Where was it, when, who wrestled, who won?

I'll start, though this was admittedly far past WCW's prime.

It was WCW Monday Nitro in Phoenix the day after Havoc 99. Lots of matches, lots of backstage segments. The highlights were Chris Benoit vs. Dean Malenko in a last man standing match (the stipulation didn't fit the two men but it was cool just to finally see them live) and Bret Hart beating Goldberg for the US title.

Dorton Arena; July 1987..... Jimmy Valiant & Lazertron beat the Mod Squad, and Ronnie & Jimmy Garvin beat Ivan Koloff & Barbarian in the "double main event". All of the "top stars" were in Maryland that night, I think, but I didn't care. It was my first show and I thought it was so cool that I got to give Ronnie a pat on the back on his way to the dressing room after the match. I was 11.   Smiley

October 1985....
Richmond Coliseum
Richmond, VA

I will do my best to remember the exact results:

"Pistol" Pez Whately d. Mike Davis

"Superstar" Billy Graham d. American Starship Eagle (Graham had turned face)

Terry Taylor d. Buddy Landell w/JJ Dillon

Ronnie Garvin and Abdullah The Butcher battled to a DDQ (both men were very bloody)

The Rock and Roll Express and Don Kernoodle d. The Russians

STEEL CAGE MATCH FOR US TITLE:
I want to say it was a no contest...I could be wrong. Magnum could have won by DQ.
Magnum TA and Tully Blanchard fought to a no contest.
Ref got bumped out somehow, Dusty comes in and makes the 3 count. Place explodes but Tully beats down on Dusty afterwards. Magnum makes save. People think Magnum has won the belt but it did not happen.

This is my first live event, October 12, 1978. My Dad took me over to Surry Central High School there in Dobson (our county seat) for this show. I was five years old. Blackjack helped with a drawing they had to give away a shot gun before the show. Boy, how times have changed! He lost to the Baron later in the show.

Sting vs Flair with El Gigante as special ref. Would've been March 91 I think. I seem to recall going to a card in Dec of 90, but don't remember anything except the Juicer vs Dutch Mantell.

November 8, 1993 in Lafollette, TN.  I don't remember the card so much as I remember who was there, as well as the fact that both Paul Orndorff and Cactus Jack no-showed.  And they were the ones most prominently featured on the event posters.

Wrestling that night were Bobby Eaton, Ron Simmons, Erik Watts, The Colossal Kongs, The Shockmaster (yep, saw in person.  No glitter-covered Stormtropper helmet, though), Saturday Night jobber The Gambler, and more that aren't coming to mind right now.  The main event was a battle royal for a check (I forget how much it was supposed to be for), won by Shockmaster

I will never forget my first live matches. It was at the Greenville Memorial Auditorium on September 1 of 1975. The crowd was hot. There were at least 5000 people in attendance. Greenville was such a great wrestling town for years. It's sad that the auditorium was torn down in September of 1997 to make way for the Bi-Lo Center.

The card was as follows:

Johnny Valentine* d Rufus R Jones - US Title

Ron Starr/Danny Miller d Missouri Mauler/Art Nelson

Kevin Sullivan drew Don Serrano

Spoiler 2 d Swede Hansen

Charlie Cook d Charlie Fulton

I have to make a correction here.......

Magnum TA won his first match in the Best Of Seven Series against Nikita Koloff on this night. This woukd go on to set the stage as Magnum tied the series and the 2 finished up the deal in Charlotte with Nikita winning the title.

Although I had been to a couple of shows before at a younger age and those memories have sadly faded, this is the first show of significance for me in my mind.   When I was growing up, I wanted to be Tully Blanchard, and I had to see this match.   Still get chills thinking about it.

NWA at the Asheville, NC Civic Center.  I seem to recall them coming once a month (6 weeks?) to do a show.  This was probably in 88-89?  We had ringside seats.  I do remember Ric Flair facing The Great Muta in one main event.  Also got to see Brian Pillman, Tom Zenk, JYD, Cactus Jack, Lex Luger.

Flair always had his butt exposed.  There was always an old lady at ringside who would shake a pair of panties at the wrestlers (later I learned that apparently every arena had one of these women).  It stuck with my father who in 2004 brought a pair of panties to an APW show in Spartanburg to wave at my cousin and friend - Adam Jaxon and Ken Magnum.  Their tag name was the UnderGround, but they were called the "UnderGarments".

I have a horrid memory.

I think my first live WCW event was a house show.  I just remember Rick Steiner defeating Dallas Page.

I went to a Thunder not too long after that.  Sting faced Jeff Jarrett in a 2 out of 3 falls match.

Both in Roanoke, VA.

I like the sounds of that WWF show.  Is that the order in which the matches took place?  I remember reading about how Hogan rarely went on last even though he's the main event.
