This happened Jan. 30, 1988 in Greensboro, N.C. I don't remember or not if this was part of a TV taping at the Greensboro Coliseum or not. Basically it was a benchpress competition at ringsides, hosted by Tony Schiavone. Each team got in a lift or two when Paul Ellering challenged Paul Jones, the manager of the Powers of Pain, to up the ante go to like 650 pounds already. They did so and in the process of Animal going for the lift, the Powers of Pain and Ivan Koloff through the resin powder used to help lather down the hands into the eyes of the Warriors, I want to say Hawk actually. Then they took Animal and rammed his head into the weights, busting him open and suffering an "eye" injury that forced him out for a few weeks. When he returned he was wearing a hockey-style mask to protect the eye. This was one week after the horrible Bunkhouse Stampede in Long Island (Uniondale), N.Y.
