i was just wondering if anyone here remembers the athens ga. shows at the j & j center on thursday nights, maybe once a month, these were about the only gcw shows i could attend, i never made it to the omni, but i caught some good shows in athens, can anyone share any memories with me, i guess the fullest i ever saw the dance club was when harley race defended his nwa title against tommy rich.

Martinlee, reading all of your posts, you and I were on the same "circuit" as far as attending wrestling matches.  I also attended matches in Greenville Anderson, Spartanburg on a weekly basis.

Yes, I used to go to the J&J all the time, and that place held some of my best memories of all. I loved that old place - the red light over the front door, the jukebox loudly playing old country songs, everything about that place was great!!  Lots and lots of fun in that dumpy old place.  Freddie Miller, Charlie Smith, Snake Brown, Doug Somers, Ole Anderson, Wildfire Tommy Rich, Scott Irwin, and I forget the promotor's name (big guy), but it all was such fun and I wish I could relive those experiences again today.

I attended the matches at the J & J Center in the late 60's and early 70's. I would catch a bus from Commerce when I was about 12 years old. I remember seeing all the great stars of the NWA. They were on Thursday night. The biggest crowds was when Bobo Brazil would come to town. The Assassins were there a lot. I saw Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat when they first came to GA. The thing I remember the most is when some of the fans would scuffle with the wrestlers. One night Crusher Blackwell pushed a fan into Dick Slater and he clobbered the poor fellow. I would laugh my head of when a fan jumped in the ring and both wrestlers would whip him. Great Memories !

Hehehe.. I guess I was on the same circuit, but to a lesser degree. The only time I ever saw Andre the Giant live was there.  It was The Freebirds vs. Andre, & Mr. Wrestling #2.
It was Gordy/ Roberts that night, with Michael Hayes vs. Plowboy Stan Frazier.
Didn't the wrestlers have to come in the front?  I saw Andre come in through the crowd that night.
I wish I still had those posters from the J&J cards that I was able to get from the local grocery store..
