NWA World Championship Wrestling question
Mar 11th, 2007, 2:35am

I was watching WWE 24/7 and they have a show called "NWA World Championship Wrestling" and in the very beginning for the Signature it would show all of the territories like Championship Wrestling from Florida, AWA, Jim Crocket Promotions and even WWF.  My question is was this show under "Georgia Championship Wrestling" or "Championship Wrestling From Florida?" I know the "WCW" that came to be didn't exist during this time, but isn't it ironic how NWA's Wrestling show at the time was called "World Championship Wrestling?" because from what I do remember is Turner buying part of this "NWA" in 1988 and called it World Championship Wrestling until they finally broke away in 1991.  Turner bought Georgia Championship Wrestling and Championship Wrestling from Florida (I think those 2 merged into WCW correct me if im wrong).

Also why on the intro before the NWA show it has an image of the WWF? I thought they were competition? Or is this not an original image from 1985?

if you mean the link for that "teritories" map you gave., that is not from '85. it has OVW on it. OVW is a product of the late 90's.
i don't have acess to 24/7 but from what i think this map represents and what you have said is the WWE's way of illustrating what video libraries it has the potential to air as they have all the represented tape libraries.

as for WCW....WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING was the name of the TBS 6:05 timeslot show since like '82 or so, i am not sure of the exact date. even after the WWF buyout of GCW, that was the name fo the tv show. and after JCP took over the timeslot, it remained as the name of the 6:05 show until it ended.
hope that helps...

The TV show known as "Georgia Championship Wrestling" became known as "World Championship Wrestling" in 1982. At the time the show was produced by NWA affiliate Georgia Championship Wrestling, Inc.

In July 1984, Vince McMahon bought Georgia Championship Wrestling and the WWF took over "World Championship Wrestling" on TBS. Shortly after this happend, Ole Anderson, who had been one of the principle shareholders in GCW, started a new show called "Championship Wrestling from Georgia" (also NWA sanctioned) that began airing on TBS early Saturday mornings.

In March 1985, Championship Wrestling from Georgia merged with Jim Crockett Promotions (Mid-Atlantic) out of Charlotte and JCP took control of the Saturday morning slot, renaming the show simply "Championship Wrestling" a couple of weeks later. Around the same time, Crockett also bought control of the Saturday night "World Championship Wrestling" slot from Vince and that's when the show switched back to the NWA.

In early 1987, Crockett took over running the Florida territory (Championship Wrestling from Florida) and by the end of the year it finally died. He also purchased the UWF from Bill Watts that same year and eventually shut it down.

In late 1988, Crockett sold to Turner and that's when World Championship Wrestling became the name of the company itself, taking over from Jim Crockett Promotions. By late 1990-early 1991, Turner phased out any remaining references to the National Wrestling Alliance and exclusively began using the World Championship Wrestling and WCW names (aside from the brief revival of the NWA World heavyweight and tag team titles that occurred between 1992-93, that is). The show "World Championship Wrestling" on TBS also eventually became known as "WCW Saturday Night".

The show on 24/7 is indeed the JCP show.  They show a cool little map before the show starts, they do it for any of the territory shows, and the logo of whatever promotion is being shown comes to the forefront, it's a pretty cool little thing.

I'm glad to see these shows, I didn't have access to TBS until into the 90s, so I missed the Georgia and JCP days, so it's nice to at least get to see the JCP, and it's good to see them going week by week too.

Look big daddy, it's regular daddy.

El Mariachi: You want me to shoot the cook?
Agent Sands: No. I'll shoot the cook. My car's parked out back anyway.

During a JR extra of the horsemen dvd he says that Schiavone and Crockett were on "Worldwide Wrestling", the "A" show, and that Caudle and himself were on "NWA Pro Wrestling", the "B" show?

Where did that leave Saturday Night? I thought Saturday Night was the A show until Nitro came along (though I suppose Main Event from sunday night's could also have been considered the A show?)

He was talking about syndication. He said when a given market got only one of the Crockett syndie shows, it was usually "World Wide Wrestling" and not "NWA Pro". Hence it was the "A" show.

Did some markets only show one of them?

I can't imagine Superstars without Challenge! No Monsoon and Heenan!
