I guarantee that very little is mentioned of Ole Anderson's run as a member of the Horsemen on the DVD.

Jeff someone may want to back me up here or correct me in case I'm wrong but over the last few years I've gotten the feeling Ole wasn't very enthusiastic about doing the "Horsemen" angle This was mid 1980's and granted Ole was already an Icon in the territory before the Horsemen ever existed I know not why his reasons and as I said I could be wrong

Whether Ole was keen or not on the idea at the beginning, history will forever have him as one of the original Four Horsemen, and his contributions should always be so noted.

I have no doubt, however, that VKM will continue writing his revisionist wrestling history, just like he did with ECW. Vince will never give the Horsemen their due, simply because he didn't create them. He only markets the old school stuff because it is so much more popular with the mainstream than the crap he's giving us nowadays.

At least he markets it...otherwise we may never see that old classic stuff.

I know what you mean Greg, but without those WWE DVD's and 24/7 out there, those footage may never see the light of day.

I know exactly what you mean. I was just saying Vince's re-writing of wrestling history only gets held back in situations like this when the old classic footage means $$$ in his pockets. Even then, I bet the Horsemen "story" (when told in the upcoming dvd,) will be changed to suit Vince's desires.

yeah, but....

who is Ole Anderson?

did he ever work for vince? in any capacity? much less in the past 20 plus years? nope. the new crowd watching this stuff has no idea and will likely care no longer than beyond the next item on the DVD menu..so why make any real comments or homage to him? sad but (i feel) true.

I do recall when they did a Horsemen story on the Confidential show, that specifically focused on the original group. Although a majority of the focus was on Flair, Blanchard and Arn Anderson, I felt they did Ole fair in the clips they showed of him and the comments that were made but Tully and Arn.

Now I agree with Greg, that when the money is on the table and we're talking about DVD sales, things may be different.   I've set low expectations on this DVD anyways, considering the source of the distribution.

I saw the cover art which didn't really surprise or bother me as much.  BUT if there are no matches or footage of Ole featured, then I agree that is simply criminal.

I doubt Ole cares. He should be getting a paycheck out of it, but some of the wrestlers don't get anything and I am guessing from his era there probably isn't any requirement for him to be paid. I heard a shoot interview with Jamie Dundee where he said he got an occasional small check for dvd royalties but when he told WolfieD, he had not got anything until he asked about it. Ole should get something out of it but I doubt he will.

when I told Ole the first time I met him back in 2004 that I enjoyed he and Arn's matches with the Rock N Roll Express, he responded "that's because you're too young to remember the good ones." It is clear from his book that he looks back on his Gene days as by FAR the highlite of his career, and he downplays the whole Horsemen thing. Heck, I was a bit surprised that he held up the 4 fingers when he took a photo with me.

That's just how Ole acts. When I've been around him, he let's his guard down very little but he does care about his image. Ole is very old school and he still acts the part of the heel, but at the fanfests he is always willing to talk. Teaming with Gene was obviously more important to him than being a Horseman but I believe that he is proud of his whole career as a wrestler and promoter.

Does anybody know if there will be a bonus third disc available with this DVD set? I know that Circuit City had a bonus Piper disc and Walmart had a bonus Hogan disc. I thought I saw an ad in the WWE magazine for a 3 disc set but their website shows a 2 disc set.

Kyle--You're exactly correct about Ole, but we both know that if you talk with him enough, there is a "sweet little puppy dog" inside the man. I like him a lot.

Agree on Ole when you talk with him. He comes across all old school and totally honest. He's really a very decent guy who a lot of fans seem to give a bad rap to. I have the utmost respect for the guy and I'm glad most of us here do. I've seen him described as grumpy and mean other places and that is untrue in my experience, maybe the fans who post that are being disrespectful or something. Ole, Tully, JJ, and Arn are all class acts in my book.
I haven't seen where anyone has a 3 disc version, if anyone has please post it.

Well...in my opinion, the Horseman DVD is LONG overdue!!!  If nothing else, it will serve as a tool to familiarize both the much younger and the newer fans to the group who were the BEST faction in the history of this sport.

I watched the Horsemen dvd in it's entirety last night. FYE had it in stock, but since it isn't officially released yet, they made me buy a gift card for the price of the dvd, and just gave me the dvd and kept the gift card. Anyway, here are my thoughts.

The documentary is about 2 1/2 hours long. It gives a solid overview of the Horsemen run. There are no narrators trying to recreate history, it is narrated by the Horsemen members themselves. Flair, Arn, Tully, JJ, Barry, Benoit and Malenko give their input throughout. There is even a surprise appearance by Paul Roma, who comes off as a major tool in what he has to say. I won't ruin it for anyone. The original Horsemen faction is covered the most extensively, with the first 40'ish minutes of the dvd devoted to them.

The matches are worth seeing.

The Ric Flair vs Ricky Morton cage match from Charlotte Stadium is very good. They beat the hell out of each other, and Morton does one of his great sell jobs. It's a never before seen (unless you were there) gem that is worth getting. You'll be amazed at seeing a top Crockett babyface that actually sells for Flair...

The 88' War Games was very good also. Kind of odd seeing Ellering on a team with Dusty, Nikita, Steve Williams and Lex Luger (i.e. with no Road Warriors). I'd rank this below the 1st War Games, and the 91 and 92 War Games', but it is very good in it's own right and probably comparable to the Orange Bowl War Games in 87. It's another never before seen (again, unless you were there) gem.

My local Walmart had put them out but it was only a 2 disc version at $18.84.

K-Mart has them advertised at 14.99 I believe.

Still hoping for a 3-disc set somewhere.

K-Mart $14.99
Circuit City $14.99

All 2 disc version, I'm starting to think that there probably isn't a third disc.

I looked in the current WWE magazine and saw the ad for the DVD listed as 3 discs, I knew I had seen it somewhere. Called WWE Shop Zone this morning and confirmed that it was a misprint and it is only a 2 disc version from them. I guess that puts an end to any 3rd disc rumors.

I watched both discs yesterday and must admit I was very pleased with the content. No, there is no new Ole material, but there is plenty of Ole footage from the Horsemen's early days.

I had to laugh at the new Paul Roma interview as he really tried to convince everyone (even himself) that he was a good Horsemen.

I was surprisingly pleased with this release. Documentary was good... loved all the extra promos. They could have had another couple of discs with more matches. But I think everyone is hoping for a second release sometime in the future.

Oh, and Paul Roma made me laugh. I also laughed at Ric talking about how much Sid sucked... "please put this on the dvd, because it's the truth." Loved it.

Not only is Ole prominently featured throughout the documentary, Gene Anderson is also mentioned several times throughout the first 30 minutes, with HHH and maybe Michaels (I forget now) putting over the Andersons as one of the toughest teams ever.

I liked the way it portrayed the Anderson family (Gene, Ole, Ric, later joined by Arn) as the foundation of what would become the Horsemen.

Odd that they got Arn's origin as an Anderson wrong, though. They presented it (Arn had this wrong himself!) as though Flair brought Arn in from the Dothan AL territory and Ole agreed to make him an Anderson because they looked so much alike. That is only about 1/3 true. Ole actually gave Arn the Anderson name in 1983 (not sure of exact date, heck maybe even late 1982) when Arn and Matt Borne formed a good tag team managed by Paul Ellering. Arn was presented as Ole's nephew at that time.

I thought the documentary was excellent, while I thoght the choice (and amount) of "extras" was pretty weak. (The helicopter landing at the Bash with Flair was very cool, though!)

I bought the DVD and watched it over the weekend.  I thought WWE did a great job putting the DVD together and it seemed to be very factual and in line with what the Horsemen were all about and how the different versions of the Horsemen came about.  Those interviewed seemed to give honest insight into things and you could really tell that Flair despises Sid Eudy.  The matches on the DVD were good as well.  I put the DVD up there in quality with the Road Warriors DVD and the Spectacular Legacy of the AWA.  Very, very good DVD.

I would've liked more extras, better matches, but some of them were neat, matches I don't recall being released before on other DVDs, videos, such as Morton-Flair and the '88 WarGames. Not saying they're not out there, just not commericially released.

I was very happy when Tully gave a nod to those Greensboro Horsemen fans.
He said he first noticed us on the second row one day early in the Horsemen formation.
The first time that happen we were on about row twenty. And we spelled out HORSEMEN when Flair and Tully came out to the ring.
When Rock and Roll came out, we flipped the signs and spelled out ROMPEROOM.
Those were the days.

I'm disappointed that:

1.) Crockett didn't have a commentary team for the 88 War games and 86 Cage match.

-=-OR-=-

2.) WWE didn't put JR with Arn and/or Flair and overdub some new commentary on those matches. They overdub alternate commentary on all the japanese matches for the various releases, so why couldn't they do that here?

Also still no Sting vs Flair from Clash 1 or War Games 87 is fairly disappointing.
