raydutc Champion Posts: 344	Hulk Hogan still AWA champion Mar 22^nd, 2007, 8:57pm If you really think about it Hulk Hogan is still the AWA champion. He beat Bockwinkle 1,2,3 in the ring in Mineapolis but had the title taken away from him over an over the top rope technicallity. However Hogans shoulders were never pinned.

Interesting notion. But indeed, Hogan never officially had the title.

Dale Gagner last year retroactively named Hogan a 2 time former AWA champ. And undoubtedly if he'd ever gotten the title, there's a chance he'd have left with it and been an unbeaten champ.

But he's no more the champ today than Larry Zbyszko is.

I take it back...didnt Zbyszko have a match last year with Steve Corino to settle that?

Problem with your thinking is that Flair was stripped of the WCW Title months before he signed with the WWF, but was still NWA World Champion when he signed with the WWF. Oh, and when you add up Flair's World Title reigns: NWA (10), WCW (8), WWF (2), & WCW International (2), that = 22. So if you count every Dusty Finish as another reign, then Flair must be a thousand time world champ.

At least twice he won the belt only to have it returned to Bockwinkle. Since the old AWA never actually booked him (that is, legitimately booked him) to be the champion, it doesn't count. Gagner just decided to rewrite history because Hogan was going into the WWE HoF.

Larry did marry Verne's daughter and that may have been the main reason he was given the title, but honesty, who else did they really have at that point to carry it? As they pointed out on the DVD, aside from Greg, he was probably the most dependable guy they had since the promotion was going down the toilet and they couldn't hold onto anybody else. His stalling could be very annoying, but overall he was a very credible wrestler and heel. He was the best they had at the time.
