Would Terry Funk have mad a good Horseman member?
Apr 21st, 2007, 10:16pm

In 1989, when Terry Funk was brought in to the NWA, would he have been a good member of the Four Horsemen, if say Ric Flair had tried to form a new faction of the Horsemen instead of say feuding with Funk.  If say Flair had formed a new Horsemen faction with Funk, Luger, and perhaps a Mike Rotunda how would that have gone over?  Windham, Anderson, and Blanchard were all in WWE at that point, so the key pieces were not there, but how would Flair, Funk, etc gotten along in a faction and would they have meshed well together?

I don't think Funk would of been a good Horsemen.

Nothing against the Funkster, but he's too unpredictable to be part of the Horsemen.   I always pictured him more as a psycho lunatic.

I don't see this combination working either....The Flair vs Funk feud was way too good to have them on the same team. I consider Flair vs Funk, Flair vs Steamboat, and Dusty vs the Horsemen my favorite feuds ever in wrestling. If you had to come up witha  differetn combinationof Horsemen in early 1989 before Flair turned babyface I would have chosen Ric Flair, Barry Windham, Curt Hennig who could have been stolen away from the WWF, andmaybe the newly turned heel Michael Hayes or possibly Greg Valentine could have been snaggd away from teh WWF as well.

However, let me stress that Flair, Windham, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard would be my top draft picks of any starts from that era to build this group around. I would have taken these guys over Hogan, Warrior, and Savage in a heartbeat if given a choice in 1989. This combination was the BEST wrestling roup ever. I also still have a soft spot for Ole since he was an original Horseman. If Windham would have been a babyface in '89 I would go with the Original line-up again.

In no way would Terry Funk have made a good Horseman. I don't think his character would gel very well with the characters of the men who actually were Horsemen. I can't see Terry Funk on TV bragging about how many women he hung out with, or driving fast cars, or whatever. He was too much of a Texan, bragging about the Double Cross Ranch and using a branding iron.

Terry Funk was his own man.  He didn't need to be part of a group to get over.

No, he was too much of a loner. He was someone you hire to take care of your enemies.

Funk just would not have fit in to a group with Flair in the late 80s.  Not saying he was a loner, because during that run he feuded with Flair with J-Tex--a group.

Certainly better than Kendall Windham or Paul Roma...  Smiley

But Funk was a single's man - with the exception of Flair, the horsemen pretty much teamed together, and Funk never had the dignity or team wrestling background...
