Rock N Roll Express/vs/Fantastics

I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard the story that the bookers of the NWA back in 1988 were going to turn The Fantastics into a heel tag team managed by Paul Jones to feud with the Rock N Roll Express.Of course it never took place because the Rock N Roll Express quit the NWA.Anyone else heard this story?

Nope, but I will ask Tommy Rogers if they ever approached him about it...I will get back to you on this one.

Just talked to Tommy.  He said, yes this is true.  That was a plan that was discussed.

Until the RnRs left that was indeed the idea according to several sources. I have heard Morton and both Fantastics say that in the past. Would have been some darn good stuff, minus the Paul Jones thing. Too bad Cornette had the Midnight's, he would have been a great add on to the Fantastics.

Paul E. could have replaced his "Original Midnights" with the Fantastics also, that would have been good against the RnRs.

Nah, would not have the same cache as the "Original MX".  The only part lacking was Norvell Austin--he really would have put the rivalry over the top.  The MX in its early days had that heel "Freebird rule" thing with any two out of the three participating in matches.

Those would have been some AWESOME matches between those two teams. Too bad it never came about. I also thought it was really cool seeing them do an 8 man tag team match. One took place on NWA Pro Wrestling in August, 1988. I can't remember exactly who they were against, but seems like Rotundo and Steiner may have been two of the opposing team members.

Paul Jones would have worked well with the Fantastics. He could talk up a  storm for his proteges at the announcing position.

While I would've loved to have seen it, RNRX's workrate diminished greatly in 88' so I'm not sure the bouts would've lived up to expectations. They were really in a slump in 88' and 89' in terms of in-ring performance. I think the match would've been better in 1986, or 1990. The Fantastics as heels would've been weird too.
