When I was about 10 years old my 7 year old brother and I went to see wrestling a the Greensboro Coliseum.  While trying to kill some time before the matches we wondered around and ended up in a hallway filled with probably 100 people just standing around talking.  We decided that this is where we were going to hang out at.  We were engaged in some pretty intense horseplay when I heard the crowd in the hallway react loudly to something and discovered it was Kevin Sullivan and Mark Lewin parting the crowd.  As soon as I noticed who it was, my brother running backward at full throttle thinking we were still playing, ran directly into Sullivans knee and bounced off like he hit a brick wall.  Sullivan just kept walking as if nothing happened keeping his eyes straight to front.  Sullivan and Lewin were in true kayfabe mode.  Sullivan was leading Lewin using a chain and dog collar.  Lewin was twitching and rolling his eyes back in his head trying to look maniacle.  When I saw Sullivan I remember being in awe of how big he was, he looked allot smaller on TV, so you can imagine what Lewin looked like to me.  In fact I was impressed by the size of all the westlers who walked by me.  Baron Von Rasche walked through without acknowledging any one.  The Assassins came through with Jody Hamilton wearing a black sack-like hood with his partner wearing the familiar assassin mask.  They were carrying championship belts in velvet bags.  Dory Funk Jr. also impressed me but he seemed to walk slow almost to the point of looking punchy.  Jimmy Valiant came in but at the time he was doing the Charlie Brown gimmick so he was wearing a mask.  He tryed to interact with everyone in the hallway, he even gave my brother a kiss on the cheek.

There were others who walked through like Ric Flair, Rufus Jones, Paul Jones, Ricky Steamboat and I know I left some wrestlers out but the above ones stood out to me.  Any one else have memories such as this?

When MACW came to the Cumberland County Memorial Arena every other Monday night, I always went around to the side of the facility, where the wrestlers parked. My friend Tom Miller and I would yell stuff at the heels.

One night, Johnny Valentine was coming out after a grueling match against Rufus Jones. A little boy, no more that six, had gotten into the fence area and asked, "Mr. Valentine, can I have your autograph?" Tom and I cringed. We just knew Valentine was going to blow the kid off. But, in the most grandfatherly voice I'd ever heard then, or since, Valentine said, "Sure, son." He signed the paper and patted him on the head.

You could see Valentine was exhausted. That's when I realized these were real men with families and kids who really cared about fans. God bless the memory of Johnny Valentine.

If that fateful time in 1975 hadn't intervened I firmly believe Johnny Valentine could've gone another 5 years or more in the ring

Blackjack and I stood side by side at adjoining urinals taking care of business at the original Charlotte Coliseum after he had wrestled Sgt. Slaughter.

Unfortunately, it wasn't the best time to strike up a lengthy conversation.
