Is anyone else as sick of John Cena as I am?
Jun 7th, 2007, 11:27am

I mean, come on. They let him beat The Great Khali not once, but twice. Then, they let him pin Khali on RAW in a 3 way match. This is getting ridiculous. They're making Khali look easily beatable. If they wanted Cena to retain the belt, they should've at least had Khali get disqualified instead of tapping out or being pinned. Let's be realistic, there's no way in the world John Cena could "really" make Khali tap. I've seen this same scenario before when they were making Hulk Hogan seem invincible. It wasn't a good thing then, and it's not a good thing now. I personally think the WWE should get the belt off Cena and keep it off. They should also remove the spinner from the belt and make it look like a real championship belt instead of a joke.

I've never been a fan of the babyfaces having long title reigns when it comes to the world title. I believe it makes for better business to have the belt on a heel for the longer tenure, especially one that the fans really hate. I believe it puts more asses in the seats and brings larger PPV buys because the fans are hoping to be there or to be able to see that heel lose the belt. It worked well when Flair was champ. It also worked well for Triple H.

Yeah, but even going back to Bruno Sammartino, they did the same thing, build the challenger up as unbeatable, then Bruno beats him, maybe not decisively the first match, but he'd beat him clean in the second or third match.

I don't think they're doing anything differently here, Khali was built up as a monster for the simple fact of making Cena look good, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go back to SmackDown or over to ECW in the draft, because I think he's served his purpose on RAW.

It really comes down to different booking styles I guess, some promoters liked having a babyface on top for a long reign, with just interim heel champs, and some liked having a heel on top, either way was fine.  The heel on top worked well here in Toronto and in Detroit with the Sheik, but the WW(W)F always seemed to be just fine with a babyface on top.

To answer the question on the Message....YES, about as sick as you can get. But they refuse to give up on him. Ridiculous. He is no Hulk Hogan, they tryto make him funny like Rock and he's NOT AT ALL. He has no charisma, almost anyone on the roster could do, say and talk exactly like him and take his spot. John Cena...Whatever   Angry

I'm not as sick of Cena as I am Edge and Orton.  Orton isn't 1/3 as good as Ace.

I personally think Edge and Orton are some of the best talent in the business these days. But, what I'm hoping is that when Triple H comes back, he returns to being a heel and forget all this D-X crap, and he regains the title. I'd much rather see him hold the belt for a very long reign than Cena. Triple H is an overall better draw than Cena, plus, he reminds me so much of Ric Flair in his prime.

He has no charisma?   Shocked

I don't think Cena is the greatest thing since sliced bread but I have to give him a lot of credit for being in that position and not letting the pressure get to him. There are plenty of other top babyfaces (bigger names than Cena) that have crumbled at the sound of boos. He takes it in stride and makes it part of his promo and sometimes even welcomes it. Say what you will about his ring skills but his ability to work with the crowd has blown me away.

I'm a far bigger fan of his now than 2 years ago, especially after a hot 2006 working against Triple H and Edge and the series of great matches this year against Michaels. That hour-long match on Raw ... you can say Michaels carried him but it takes two to tango and that was the best Raw match in ages.

I won't argue any of that Graham. His matches were better but when you're sick of somebody even good matches are hard to watch. Also all of your points are valid to an extent however, none of that exemplifies "charisma". He handles boo's better than many also, that's the only thing I can give him.

Most of the time I feel like Cena's reading off a cue card, to me he just isn't a natural "character" like the Rock, thus I hate when he tries to do the Rock comedy schtick stuff.

I just don't like him, I wish he'd get drafted to 1970's Mid-Atlantic and learn how to work and cut a GOOD promo.

Does anyone else recall this whole "gimmick" started as a joke, when he dressed up as Vanilla Ice on a Halloween episode of Smackdown? Grin

Well , who else is going to carry the company? People get all mad about Shelton and others who are "better" and never got the "chance". But could he carry the company? So there is a better question , who could carry the company? Let's factor in injuries and out of ring trouble and figure out who should be given the ball.

It's slim pickings with Edge now on Smackdown, Michaels out until the fall, and Orton up to his usual behavior. By default you're left with Cena and Triple H ... unless of course they want to start developing main event players.

I'll admit, Cena is starting to grow on me, I hated him with a passion when he first came to RAW, but over the last six months or so, I find myself actually cheering for him!

I think he's really improved, both in the ring and on the mic, and while he's not on the level of, say, The Rock or Flair or HBK, I don't think he's horrible either.  I have a lot of respect for the guy, just the fact that it's obvious he's working hard to get better.

Having said that, I'd like to see Orton get a run with the title at some point.  I'd also like to see Mr. Kennedy get drafted to RAW, he's in my top three favourites in the WWE right now.

well like anything else in the world, we all have our opinions...when cena first started i too couldn't stand him, but as time has past, he has grown on me,as for the spinning belt and that type stuff, yea let it go already...i too am confused as to why they continue to let cena hold the strap, but again he pretty much is the only one for now, i mean look at the intercontinental strap, even masters could carry it better, and the hardys should still be tag champs...what kills me about wwe booking is most of the time a fan will buy the ppv expecting to see a title change, chances are the belt usually doesn't swap off until the next night on raw, just screws all those who bought the ppv!!! ok i got off topic, yea keep cena for now and as soon as hhh is back you know who will probably hold all three world titles!!! KENNEDY.  KENNEDY.

But in all honesty, IMO, Cena's entire run makes everyone in the company look very weak.  The fact that he has not lost clean in a one-on-one match on PPV for the better part of 4 years makes him MUCH more dominant than Hogan ever was.  I was talking to one of the guys working here locally (who cannot stand Cena), and I posed him this question, "If you were Cena, and they told you that the top spot was being handed to you, would you not take it?  If so, how can you hate Cena?"  His response was interesting.  He pretty much said that he would take the position, but being given that position is also a responsibility--that Cena should be working to improve his work in the ring.  Did anyone see that STFU that Nitro tapped out to on ECW?  UGH!

I'm going to get slammed on this board, but Cena may be the next ...
Ric Flair.  When he turns heel, and eventually he will, Vince should have him come out in a 3 piece suit and ridicule anyone who "believed"in his previous gimmick.  Arrogant, confident, prideful.  No, he will never be the worker that Flair is, but he could pull off some of Flair's arrogance.  A program with a babyface HHH or HBK would make nothing but money if done right.

I respect Cena because he's done very well for himself, he works hard, he's got his head on straight, and he's a legitimate draw. I can tolerate him more than some other folks on the roster.

We already have the next Ric Flair. His name is Triple H. Like Flair, Triple H is a multy time world champion. Like Flair, Triple H is a huge draw whether he is a heel or a babyface. Like Flair, Triple H was a part of a dominate stable. Like Flair, Triple H is great behind the mic. Like Flair, Triple H is one of the most arrogant "characters" in the business. Like Flair, (when he's not doing the DX gimmick) Triple H dresses pretty sharp when he's not in his ring attire. And like Flair, Triple H has a great respect for the history of the business...something that's really lacking from alot of today's young stars.

As far as Cena goes, I believe they're actually trying to turn him into the next Hulk Hogan. Lord knows, we don't need another Hogan.

WHOOOOAH!  One BIG difference between Flair and HHH.  HHH will never, EEEEEVER, divorce his wife.  Otherwise, he will be the next Spike Huber (I know, Spike was never married to her, but was dating and broke up). Grin
