Meeting "The Crippler'' Chris Benoit
Jun 26th, 2007, 11:12am

I was fortunate enough to have met Chris Benoit a short while ago.

And truth be told, I cannot believe he could have done what is currently being assumed.

Strangely enough, the last 3 that died (Ladd, Sherry, Benoit) are the only 3 dead ones that I’ve met. Ladd I met in Rockville, Sherry in Rockville and NJ.

I once missed a chance to see Benoit a couple of years back, but recently I was fortunate enough to meet him as he was picking up his luggage.

I cannot begin to say how courteous and polite he was. He would humbly accept to take photos. And he would humbly sign.

And when signing he would even ask "where do you want it" and proceed to slowly and carefully sign.

Though someone like Owen Hart I never got to meet and always wish I did, Benoit is someone I will always be glad I met. Having spent a good chunk of my life watching Benoit, I will always treasure his autograph and my photo with him (he even had a toothpick).

His autograph is on the upper right: http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/7208/1003438go0.jpg

Here goes my story that has been told many times. After The Brock vs Hogan match in Richmond where Brock killed Hogan with the bearhug we went out to eat. Sitting inside is John Cena and Albert. Eddie and Benoit pull up and when they get out of the car this fan slaps Benoit on the back and Benoit gets pissed as he just came back from surgery and Eddie is pissed as well. So the 20 or so fans in the parking lot start name calling and mobing towards the car when out walks Albert and Cena and the whole crowd backs off as Albert is a huge freaking dude when you are standing that close to him. So Benoit and Eddie come in and eat and the crowd leaves , Jerome and I are with his kids and we eat and after Benoit and Eddie finish and pay their check we ask them if they minded signing autographs and getting pics with us. This starts the problem with Eddie thing , he didn't mind signing but would only take pics with the kids , so we have pics with Jeromes kids and Eddie but none with us. Benoit though was super cool he signed our programs and even posed holding up the four fingers with me which was super cool. I also met him in Richmond the night he beat Kane in the "Bad Blood" rematch and again at the Summerslam 2005 meet and greet. Eddie never wanted to take pics with anyone "but the kids" all the times we have met him...
I should note that Cena was cool and I had a sign that said , "Push Cena" that he signed and even Albert was cool and big as hell , lol! Now , as we know I am a huge Cena fan. But here is a little tidbit , I have met him 5 times and only in that first pic is he sporting a smile , he comes off like the most angry guy in the world. Oh Well. Also , if you watch the Armageddon ppv from this year , Cena high fives me right after he does the salute during his intro.

is that a trait of Eddie's to never take photos with people, but kids?

i met Chris back in Januray 1991 while i was in tokyo. the New Japan foreigners were staying at the same hotel my group was at. as we waited for the elevator, he came up. he was quiet.
i got to see Chris wrestle three times on that trip to japan. he was Pegasus kid still. the last time was the best. he was teamed with Big Van Vader-Super Strong Machine against Ricky Choshu-Hiroshi Hase-Masanori Saitoh.
good memories. that was a good match in '91.

First match I saw Benoit in was that Clash Of The Champions match I think he teamed with Beef Wellington (sp?) unless that Superbrawl match with Scorpio was first.

See what you’re saying about how cool Benoit is? Could you imagine him doing what they’re saying he did?

Yes I can understand why. I hate that this happened. I don't understand it and I guess I never will. I just can't believe that someone didn't see something that maybe raised some red flags because this was so deliberate. I wish them all peace.

No one, WWE included, could have imagined the possibility that he could have done it. Despite the hints. And understandably so.

Just think of one of your closest friends with kids. And think how you would react if you heard he killed his wife, child, and hung himself.

yea, it's one thing to remove tributes or shirts, but to say that at WMXX Triples defends "against Shawn Michaels" that is just too much. History should never ever be erased no matter what!

I agree Steve.  Like the quote says... "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
