Now that Sandman is on Raw, does anyone here think he will get a chance to become WWE Intercontinental Champion ?

Even though Sandman may not make a good Intercontinental Champion, he makes a much better IC champ than Chyna did when she was IC Champion.

I agree with "sittingstill". Sandman would be better as IC champion than Santino Marella.

I actually don't mind Santino.  He's not great, but I don't think he's horrible either.  Honestly, they shouldn't even have moved Sandman from ECW, I think that's about the only place he fits.

I agree with that wholeheartedly, Mr Von Poppenfresh. No doubt it was one of the many 'token' draft picks with no planning behind it. The only place Sandman fits on the WWE roster was in ECW.

Having said that - if he's to be used as a generic jobber a la Val Venis, Eugene etc, then it really doesn't matter where he goes....

That's the bad thing in and of itself.  He's not great, but not horrible either.  Remember when this title was passed from great wrestler to great wrestler?  Pedro Morales, Don Muraco, Tito, Greg Valentine, Macho Man, Rick Steamboat, Rick Rude, Curt Hennig, Kerry Von Erich, Bret Hart, Roddy Piper, Davey Boy Smith, Shawn Michaels, etc.  Now anybody with a pulse can hold it.

YES!  But, only if he is repackaged as the surfer dude in the zubaz pants hailing from Sandy, UT. Grin

HMM.  Looks like you kinda almost ran the championship run in order.  Only problem is that in listing all these "great" wrestlers you left some of the meat out from the middle.  What about Honky Tonk Man and The Ultimate Warrior?  As a wrestler, IMO, Santino is better than those two.

I actually like HTM and Warrior, but I was listing the actual WRESTLERS I felt did the championship proud.

I personally think comparing Sandman to either Eugen or Santino is like comparing Doink the Clown to Jack Brisco or Lou Thesz or even Danny Hodge

I will admit, Sandman was funny last night, with the spitting the beer in Carlito's face and everything, that was good.

I like the IC title back on Umaga, as I said earlier, I didn't hate Santino, but for some reason, I kinda like Umaga with the title.

I couldn't agree with you more. I've always believed that the best formula was the way the NWA did during the 80s. Ric Flair (the heel) would hold the belt for several months, sometimes a year or so, during his different title reigns. When he'd lose to the babyface, it would only be two weeks to maybe two months before he regained the title. I think that works much better than the way the WWE kept the title on Hulk Hogan all those years, making him look unstoppable. That's why I always liked the idea of the title being with Triple H during his days as a heel. I'm hoping they return him to heel status and have him regain the title.

Lol, then why are we being force fed John Cena week after week. Rather see him chasing instead of spinning. Am I the only one who thinks that lame spinning crap is an insult to the lineage?

I agree - the 'babyface chasing the heel' is theoretical formula: it only works if the face is credible/over enough (or in the Flair idiom where the heel is good enough to make largely weak faces look credible) - see the Lashley-McMahon, Jericho-HHH, or Luger vs Simmons feuds. WWE's formula has almost always been (Sammartino, Hogan, Backlund, Bret, Austin, Cena) put the belt on the top babyface in order to get credibility, and have heels gun for him, because he has all the marbles. In this scenario its just as common for the face to be getting revenge on the heel, as it is for the face to be fending off the challenge of a credible monster heel who is presented has having the faces number. Some of the most successful programs of the mid-late 90s (NWO, Austin-McMahon, Raven-Dreamer) didn't even vaguely follow any of these formulas.

I believe that ANYTHING can work - it just has to be done well, with a good feel by the promotion of who is over and why/how.

Except Sandman as IC champion, which I can't see working..... Wink

Even though Sandman wouldnt make a good Intercontinental Champion, I still think WWE should give him the IC title for just a month and a half.

Because Sandman makes a much better IC champion than some of the other WWE IC Champions. Such as Chyna, Santino Marella, Rikishi, A-Train and the current WWE IC Champion Umaga.

None of those wrestlers were fun to watch wrestle.

Rikishi and Umaga move slower than most of the past WWE IC Champions and they have almost no agility and dont do as many entertaining moves as other WWE Superstars.

Santino Marella doesnt really do anything that great in the ring and he doesnt seem to be a risk taker.

I know this sounds sexist, but Chyna was a horrible IC Champion because she is a woman and is not even close to being as good as the male wrestlers. A woman should never hold a championship that the male wrestlers normally hold

I find Sandman to be entertaining because he is a risk taker. He hits his opponents harder than he should, he is a better wrestler than the other WWE IC Champs that I mentioned (Chyna, Santino Marella, Rikishi and Umaga)  and I like how he uses his singapore cane when ever he wants , even in a match where he can get disqualified for using it.

I also like his gimmick. Where he comes through the crowd, drinks beer and repeatedly smashes the beer can on his head to the point where he is bleeding.

No you're not. There is a whole internet full of people who wail and gnash their teeth over something that is supposed to be fun and is fake to boot. It's called "Wrestling Klassics" syndrome.
