CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING FROM FLORIDA HOUSE SHOWS JULY 8-13, 1977 ALL MATCHES ARE SANCTIONED BY THE NWA. HOLLYWOOD SPORTATORIUM HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA JULY 8, 1977 7 PM REFEREE: FRENCHY BERNARD Match 1- DENNIS HALL defeats JUAN SEBASTIAN with a belly to back suplex. Time: 13:56 Match 2- JERRY BRISCO defeats PRINCE TAPU. Tapu falls to the floor late in this match. Brisco rolls him back into the ring and applies the figure four for the win. Time: 15:28 Match 3- JACK BRISCO defeats CHIEF TIO. Attempted interference by Buddy Wolff backfires in this match. Wolff has a foreign object in his hand when he jumps on the ring apron. He motions for Tio to whip Brisco toward him. Brisco reverses the whip and Wolff hits Tio. Brisco rolls the Manchurian up for the win. Time: 20:28 Match 4- FLORIDA TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH STEVE KEIRN/ MIKE GRAHAM defeat MISSOURI MAULER/ THE ASSASSIN The young lions work on Mauler’s back throughout this match. The end comes when The Assassin misses a flying head butt and falls to the floor. Keirn lifts Mauler into a standing hammerlock. Graham climbs to the top rope and executes a top rope bulldog for the win. Time: 22:46 Match 5- THE SPOILER w/ SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK defeats JIM BRUNZELL. Brunzell misses a flying body press late in the match. The Spoiler follows up with a Samoan Drop and a claw for the submission win. Time: 22:19 Match 6- STEVE STRONG/ GORGEOUS JIMMY GARVIN defeat DUSTY RHODES/ BOB ARMSTRONG The Assassin gets involved here late in the match. He hits Rhodes in the head with a loaded mask shot. In the ring, Garvin tries to use an atomizer filled with some liquid on Armstrong. Bob blocks it with his arms, but the defensive move opens him up to a belly-to-back suplex from Strong. Strong follows it up with a lateral press for the win. Time: 26:29 ________________________________________________________________________ LAKELAND CIVIC CENTER LAKELAND, FLORIDA JULY 11, 1977 7 PM REFEREE: LEO GARIBALDI Match 1- THE EXECUTIONER defeats CHIN LEE with a bent knee back breaker. Time: 14:00 Match 2- MIKE GRAHAM and BOBBY EATON wrestle to a 20-minute draw. Graham hits Eaton with a flying clothesline that turns Eaton a complete flip in the middle portion of this match. Both Graham and Eaton counter each others holds in a segment that ends with a double bridge to their feet. The bell rings right after Eaton hits his Alabama jam and Graham puts his foot on the ropes to stop the count. Both wrestlers shake hands after the bout. Match 3- STEVE STRONG defeats STEVE KEIRN The final turning point in this match comes when Keirn has Strong in a sleeper. The struggle causes both wrestlers to tumble through the ropes to the floor. Keirn hurts his neck and Strong runs it into the ring steps. He rolls Keirn in and applies his swinging full nelson for the win. Time: 23:18 Match 4- JACK BRISCO/ BOB ARMSTRONG defeat BUDDY WOLFF/ GORGEOUS JIMMY GARVIN This match is back and forth with all four competitors having legs that are weakened. Bob Armstrong looks to be scoring the win: with Buddy Wolff locked in the spinning toe hold. Garvin comes in to break the hold. Armstrong goes after Garvin to the arena floor. He tags Brisco and the Blackwell, Oklahoma native puts Wolff in the figure four for the win. Time: 24:00 Match 5- EDDIE GRAHAM/ PAUL JONES defeat THE MANCHURIANS w/ SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK Paul Jones, from Mid-Atlantic, is Graham’s partner for this match. The Manchurians isolate Eddie Graham in their corner for the early part of the match. Graham comes back and weakens Tapu’s leg. Jones locks on the Indian Death Lock. Tio breaks it while Humperdink gets Garibaldi’s attention. In the end, Humperdink helps decide. He hits Jones outside the ring with Tapu’s Samoan sandals. Humperdink climbs back in the ring and tries to do the same to Graham. He misses and hits Tio. Graham clotheslines Tapu and Humperdink out. He, then, rolls Tio into a cradle for the win. Time: 21:33 Match 6- SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH AUSTIN IDOL defeats THE SPOILER w/ BUDDY COLT by DQ Colt accompanies Spoiler to the ring, as he will every challenger to Idol’s title. Idol is immediately distracted by Colt. This gives Spoiler an early advantage on Idol. He walks the ropes and comes down with a wicked forearm on Idol’s shoulder. He applies a claw to the shoulder. Idol rallies from that a couple of times. Eventually, Idol manages to get Spoiler down to the mat. He goes outside and wraps the leg around the ring post. He clamps on the Las Vegas Leglock. Spolier manages to reverse it several times. Both wrestlers fall to the floor. Colt gets the Southern title belt and clobbers Idol with it. The disqualification does not bother the twosome, as they open Idol up. They take the jeers of the crowd, as the leave Idol bloody. Time: 30:09 ________________________________________________________________________ ST. PETERSBURG BAYFRONT CENTER ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA JULY 13, 1977 7 PM REFEREE: PEDRO GODOY Match 1- NELSON ROYAL defeats MR. JUSTICE with an abdominal stretch that he rolls into a crucifix. Time: 14:00 Match 2- CIEN CARAS defeats HERCULES STEVENSON. This match is intense in and out of the ring. Both men work on the backs with surfboards. Stevenson lands a suplex from the middle rope. He goes to the top rope and tries for a flying elbow smash. Caras moves at the last second and counters with a flying head butt for the win. Time: 17:24 Match 3- BOBBY EATON/ JIM BRUNZELL and STEVE STRONG/ MISSOURI MAULER—DOUBLE COUNT OUT. This match is a back and forth affair. Brunzell and Eaton capture momentum with dropkicks from the ropes. Strong and Mauler slow things down with bear hugs. The end of the match comes when the legal men, Mauler and Brunzell, are slugging it out on the floor. Eaton goes for an Alabama Jam but Strong catches him. H drops him and applies the swinging full nelson. Strong is livid when the bell rings and he has not won. Time: 20:14 Match 4- GORGEOUS JIMMY GARVIN defeats BOB ARMSTRONG Armstrong shows remarkable in this match. He was attacked on TV by Garvin. Armstrong just bides his time and lets Garvin go through his histrionics. Armstrong goes after Garvin’s leg in the middle portion of the match. A series of Japanese leg whips helps the cause. Garvin rakes at the eyes and pulls the hair, but settles in on weakening Armstrong’s neck. Garvin looks to be close to losing, as he slumps on the ropes. He pulls out an object from his boots. Armstrong goes for a belly-to-back suplex. Garvin hits Armstrong while he is up. He falls on Armstrong for the pin fall. Time: 21:57 Match 5- THE GREAT BOLO IS BANNED FROM THE BUILDING THE ASSASSIN defeats DUSTY RHODES The Assassin and Rhodes just throw the rule book out the window. They fight just as much outside the ring as they do inside the ring. Assassin tries to load up his mask on the floor. He positions the Dream against the post. He charges but misses. Rhodes gets out the object. He rolls back into the ring to stop the count. He bloodies the masked man. Assassin rallies and taunts the crowd. One of the fans rushes the ring. Special deputies clear the ring area. One of the deputies hands Assassin a pouch. It contains a powdery substance. Assassin throws it in the eyes of Rhodes while Godoy is helping the security. The Assassin hits a running power slam for the win. Time: 24:29 Match 6- FLORIDA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE JACK BRISCO defeats BUDDY WOLFF w/ SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK by DQ This match is a no count out bout, but that does not stop Wolff from stalling early on. He is able to get in some stiff forearms, but spends a lot of time on the floor conferring with Humperdink. When he does tie up with Brisco, Jack goes to work on the leg. A missed corner splash by Brisco allows Wolff to work on the back. Both men end up on the floor, just laying each other out. Godoy tries to get the contest back into the ring. He gets in the way of a running clothesline by Brisco. Humperdink jumps on the back of Brisco and gets run into the ring post for his trouble. Wolff grabs a cable from the PA system and starts choking Brisco with it. Godoy recovers and tries to get Wolff to break. When he does not, he has to call for the bell. Brisco recovers and sends the heel pair running to the locker room. Time: 29:39
