ST. LOUIS TV(7/1/77)
Jul 12th, 2007, 1:24am

Due to schoolwork and family situations, an abbreviated show. Sorry….

Wrestling At The Chase
7/1/77

Taped earlier in the day.

Grigs welcomes the fans not only from St. Louis, but Central States as well. Central States is now a part of the St. Louis Wrestling Club. The announcement is made that the Destroyer has been stripped of the Central States Title for conduct unbecoming a champion and that a tournament for the vacant tile will be held on July 8 at Kemper Arena.

A VTR interview is shown of Jack Brisco in the locker room after his June 24 Missouri Title defense against the Great Hussein Arab. Jack admits that Arab was a tough opponent and that he isn’t sure whether he got his shoulder up in time to beat the count after Hussein’s suplex. Brisco says that if Hussein wants a rematch that he’s got it!

Hussein Arab(w/Bobby Heenan) gets a submission on Kenny Jay with a camel clutch.

Bob Slaughter and Stan Hansen are introduced as two men who terrorized Central States. Both men claim the merger will make no difference, they plan on dominating the territory. Slaughter gets a bit testy when Hansen says that he will be the next Central States Champ. Bob says that he deserves the title. It looks like they might go at it, but Hansen laughs it off, then he and Slaughter shake hands.

Bob Backlund downs Juan Reynosa with a jumping piledriver.

VTR highlights are shown of the ending of the June 24 Seiji Sakaguchi-Tatsumi Fujinami match where Ox Baker, Sakaguchi, and Heenan beat Fujinami and Skoaland down until Bob Backlund rescued them.

Tatsumi Fujinami(w/Skoaland) beats George Gadaski via submission to the “figure four Boston crab”.
Backlund, Fujinami, and Skoaland are interviewed. Skoaland announces that he has signed Backlund to a managerial contract. Backlund promises to stand by Fujinami against Sakaguchi and Baker. Mickey Garagiola announces that both men are in the Central States Title tournament and brings up the possibility of them facing each other. Backlund says it would be a great scientific match. Bob also says that he would have preferred to have taken the belt from the Destroyer instead, but he understands the NWA’s decision.

“The Hulk” Sterling Golden(w/Bobby Heenan) KOs and pins Terry Sawyer with an axe bomber. Jos LeDuc comes to ringside….Heenan and Golden head for the back!

Dos Caras and Pat O’Connor are interviewed about the upcoming tournament. Both promise to do their best to win the Central States Title. Caras says he wants to win for both his Mexican and American fans. O’Connor says that he still has one more title run left in him.

The entire Heenan Family(Bobby Heenan, The Great Hussein Arab, “The Hulk” Sterling Golden, Ox Baker, and Seiji Sakaguchi) are interviewed. Hussein claims that he is the true Missouri Champion and vows to defeat Brisco when they meet next time. Baker says that he is here to make money and break bones…..and he’ll start with Backlund and Fujinami! Heenan says that one of his men will be the next Central States Champion. Golden brags about his Kiel win over Jos LeDuc, who is in the ring waiting for his next match.

Jos LeDuc downs Scott Irwin in a rugged bout, finishing him with a bearhug.

LeDuc is interviewed and challenges Golden and Heenan to face him in a handicap match at the next Kiel card. Garagiola reminds  the new fans from Central States about the rules in a St. Louis style handicap match.

Pat O’Connor, Dos Caras, & Cowboy Bob Ellis knock off Ron Slinker, Chris Markoff, & George Barnes as Ellis pins Slinker after a bulldog.
Next Week:

Sterling Golden vs. Cowboy Bob Ellis

Hussein Arab, Seiji Sakaguchi, & Ox Baker
Vs.
Bob Backlund, Tatsumi Fujinami, & Akio Sato

The merger with Central States automatically gives St. Louis a wider, more versitile talent base.

Slaughter/ Hanson is scary.

The Heenan family is scary and will hold the Central States championship, for sure.

I can't wait to see Backlund/ Baker.

This is a potential bombshell territory. Good luck.
