AWA @ The Montreal Forum 7/9/77 (Abby vs. Rougeau)
Jul 13th, 2007, 9:25am

AWA International Wrestling @ The Montreal Forum 7/9/77

All matches sanctioned by the American Wrestling Association.
Referees for today's event: Andre Roy and Adrian Desbois

Bout 1: Mr. Hito vs. Daniel Martel
Daniel Martel defeated the veteran Mr. Hito when Hito ducked his head for a backdrop and Martel countered with a sunset flip in 6:45. This was a big upset win for Martel and helped him put a stamp on his return to International Wrestling.

Bout 2: Rick McGraw vs. Rusher Kimura
After a tough fought back & forth contest “Quick Draw” Rick McGraw battled Rusher Kimura to a 15:00 time limit draw. Several near falls occurred near the end with Kimura nearly gaining the win after a devastating clothesline, and McGraw looked to have possibly had the match won with a body block as time expired.

Bout 3: Paul LeDuc, Mad Dog Lefebvre & The Hangman vs. Jacques Rougeau/Chief War Cloud & Billy Two Rivers
In what was arguably the biggest upset of the night the team of Jacques Rougeau Jr., Chief War Cloud & Billy Two Rivers defeated Major Duke’s army in 14:00. The finish saw LeDuc have Rougeau pinned after a running avalanche in the corner but Major Duke ordered the Hangman be tagged in so LeDuc obliged. The Hangman came in and pounded on Jacques in the corner and called for Mad Dog Lefebvre to enter the ring. Lefebvre (the illegal man) charged at Jacques in the corner, but young Rougeau moved & pulled Hangman into the corner instead. This caused Lefebvre to deliver a vicious clothesline into the corner on his own partner. Rougeau dropkicked Mad Dog from the ring and school boy’d the dazed Hangman for the pin.

After the match Mad Dog Lefebvre & The Hangman got into an argument and shoved one another. Eventually, manager Major Duke George got the two broken up before more could happen. Paul LeDuc stands by and watches the melee. There appears to be dissention in the Major’s army.

Bout 4: TEXAS DEATH MATCH: “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe vs. Serge Dumont
This match will be held under “Texas Death Match Rules”. This means there will be No Disqualification, No Count Out’s, No Time Limit & no calling the match for loss of blood. The only way to win this contest is for a participate to either pin or make his opponent submit. The loser of the fall then has a 10 count to answer to, if he can not return to his feet by the end of the 10 count he will lose the match. There will be a 30 second grace period between the pin fall or submission win and the referee’s 10 count. If the loser of the fall can make it to his feet before the 10 count, the match will continue immediately.

Sharpe was out first and Dumont came out second like a man posessed. Sharpe tried his best to escape Dumont early in the match but Serge finally got a hold of the Pretty Boy and really laid into him for 5 or 6 minutes straight. Dumont scores a pin fall after a shoulder breaker at 9:00 but Sharpe is back up at the count of 7. Dumont comes after Sharpe but Larry uses Serge’s tights for leverage and propels Dumont face first into the corner turnbuckles. Sharpe now takes control and pounds on Dumont eventually throwing him to the concrete floor. Sharpe tries a PILEDRIVER ON THE FLOOR, but Dumont counters with a backdrop!

Dumont picks Pretty Boy up and drives his head into the steel ring post, busting Sharpe wide open. Back in the ring Sharpe tries to avoid Serge, but Dumont grabs him again and delivers the Pretty Boy’s own piledriver on Sharpe and covers again for 1---2----3 in 16:00. Sharpe beats the count, just barely making it to his feet by the count of 9.

Serge goes back to work on Sharpe, but Larry gets in an eye gouge and takes back over with his face covered in blood, dripping down his chest & red, white & blue singlet. Pretty Boy begins to use every dirty tactic there is to try and defend himself from the offense of Dumont.

Sharpe eventually drops Dumont and hits a knee drop from the top rope for his first pin fall of the match in 20:00. Serge barely meets the count just beating it at the count of 9. Sharpe pounds on Dumont directly after he stands at the count of 9, but Serge begins to fire back. Both men look beaten and tired but Sharpe gets the better of the slug fest. Larry goes for a slam but Dumont’s feet kick referee Andre Roy in the face and take him out. Referee Roy rolls to the floor!!!

Dumont slips behind Sharpe and delivers a back suplex and covers Pretty Boy…Dumont & the fans count 1----2----3 but there is NO referee!

Dumont goes over to the apron and looks down at the referee, who is lifeless. At this point from behind and UNKNOWN assailant makes his way into the ring with a chair and attacks Dumont with it! This blonde stranger cracks Dumont with the chair in the back not once, but twice! The strange man then aids Sharpe to his feet and they deliver a SPIKE PILEDRIVER onto Serge!

The unknown man then places a spent Larry Sharpe on top of Dumont as replacement referee Adrian Desbois slides into the ring and counts 1--------2----------3 in  25:30!

Desbois begins the count 1—2—3---4—5—6---7—8---no sign of life in Desbois….9---10!

Serge Dumont did not answer the count! The winner of the match is Larry Sharpe. The strange blonde again helps Sharpe to his feet and raises the bloody Pretty Boy’s hand as the victor. The crowd is very angry and begins to throw things into the ring….

The crowd becomes rather violent and an intermission is called as Sharpe and his helper are quickly rushed to the locker room.

Bout 5: TORNADO TAG TEAM MATCH: International Tag Team Champions The Mercenaries vs. Kurt & Karl Von Brauner
The rules of this match states that there will be no tagging in & out during this bout and all four men are legal throughout the match. All four men will battle it out at the same time and since everyone is legal, anyone can be pinned or made to submit at anytime during this contest. The disqualification rule has been waved for this contest.

This is a wild melee from the get go. There was no love lost between these four men and they took the wild brawl all over the ring and all around ringside. The champions have control early on and clear the ring of the Germans. The Mercenaries then follow the Von Brauner’s to the floor and it’s pure mayhem & madness as security holds back several fans from jumping in on the hated German team.

Several minutes later Frenchie Martin covers Karl after the Mercenaries hit their patented double shoulder breaker, but the count is broken on two when Kurt Von Brauner stomps the head of Frenchie.

A brawl eventually ensued again with Mad Dog Martel & Karl Von Brauner spilling to the floor. In the ring Frenchie is pounding on Kurt. Referee Andre Roy’s attention is in the ring that allows Karl, on the outside, to whack Martel over the back with a board from under the ring, which downs the Mad Dog.

Back inside, Frenchie delivers a back breaker to Kurt and covers 1----2----Karl is in to break the count. Karl Von Brauner then picks Frenchie up and hits a body slam. Karl revives Kurt as Martin gets to his feet…

With Martel still regrouping from the 2x4 shot on the floor, the German team hit Martin with a double clothesline! Karl covers Frenchie 1----2------3!

The time of the fall 16:15.
The Von Brauner’s have won the International Tag Team Titles from the Mercenaries!

The crowd is twice as angry than they were in the previous bout. The Montreal fans are looking riotous. However, the AWA expected the possibility of this and the re-enforced group of security controls the fans for the most part.

Bout 6: Raymond Rougeau vs. Abdullah the Butcher (w/Major Duke George)
The stipulation to this match is if Raymond Rougeau can pin or make the Butcher submit, Raymond will be granted a rematch against Paul LeDuc for the Quebec Heavyweight title at the next Montreal Forum card.

If Raymond doesn’t win here there will no doubt be a riot in the Forum!

A Wild match sees Abdullah attack Ray to start but Rougeau quickly fires back. Rougeau looks better than ever here. Raymond staggers the Butcher with a pair of dropkicks but tries a slam, which gets him nowhere. Abdullah takes control and works over Raymond for some times, using illegal tactics & objects behind the referees back. A trickle of blood is dripping from the forehead of Rougeau from one of the objects the Butcher has jabbed him with.

Major Duke calls for Abdullah to end the match and pin Rougeau. The Butcher hits a big body slam and sets up for the Sudanese Elbow drop. Abdullah takes a small sprint towards Raymond and goes to drop the elbow. ROUGEAU MOVES out of the way! Abdullah misses and it jarred the big man pretty good.

The Major looks worried as Rougeau makes a comeback. Rougeau & Abdullah are both back to their feet by a count of 6…

Abdullah tries to attack Ray but Rougeau blocks a few shots and fired back to again stagger the big Sudanese warrior, but Abdullah has yet to be knocked off his feet all match!

Raymond delivers a clothesline, a dropkick and finally SLAMS Abdullah, sort of anyway! Tongue He did get the big man off of his feet and drop him to the mat. Rougeau delivers a splash and gets a 2 count.

Abdullah is getting up and pulls a fork from his pants! Duke George is up on the apron distracting referee Desbois. This allows the Butcher to try & jab Rougeau with the fork…but Rougeau KNOCKS IT FROM ABBY’S HAND! Raymond grabs the weapon and jabs Abdullah in the THROAT with it! Abdullah clutches his throat as Raymond leaps onto the back of the Butcher and applies THE SLEEPER HOLD!

Referee Desbois orders Duke off the apron and turns around to find Abdullah fading fast. Moments later Desbois raises Abdullah’s hand, once, twice, three times, and the Butcher is out of it at 14:45! Your winner of the match….RAYMOND ROUGEAU!

Rougeau will get a rematch for the Quebec Heavyweight Title against Paul LeDuc at the next Montreal Forum Show! This appears to be a baaaaad night for Major Duke.

That’s all fans, watch International TV this Saturday to see what happens next!

The crowd would have been mad at Dumont and , surprisingly, The Mercenaries losing. Rougeau beating Abby would have sent Abby home happy.

The Hangman should string up the Major and his boys.

Dumont vs. Sharpe was a classic. I will be waiting anxiously to see who the blond interloper was.

Great International card.

That was one huge night of wrestling. First the Texas deat match was on fire. The tag match would have the bldg rocking. Addy came up short and that was good. I am looking foward to the title match.
