Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling
Jim Crockett Promotions
Sanctioned by: The National Wrestling Alliance
Referees: Sonny Fargo and Tommy Young
Summer Sizzler Tour
Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, VA
Attendance: 13,700

.
.
1st Match
Charlie Cook and Ray Candy vs. Don Kernodle and Danny Miller (sub for Nelson Royal)

Great contest here to kick the show off going back and forth until Candy hits the big splash on Miller for the pinfall @10:11
.
.
2nd Match: Mid-Atlantic Television Championship
Angelo Mosca vs. Mr. #1 Paul Jones

Jones uses his speed and toughness to really give big Angelo Mosca a run for his money in this one! In the end Mosca hits a shoulder breaker and uses a handfull of tights for extra measure to get the pinfall over Jones @13:23
.
.
3rd Match: Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championship
"The Alaskans" w/George "Two Ton Harris" vs. Tatsumi Fujinami and Akio Sato

The great team from St. Louis really takes it to the Alaskans from the bell! They give Mike and Jay York all the can handle until it appears that Sato has Jay York pinned with a "Layback" Bridging Back Suplex and Harris grabs Referee Tommy Young by the leg and drags him outside the ring for a DQ @ 17:09! Harris then takes a chair in and tries to hit Sato but he rolls and Harris hits York! Fujinami and Sato do a number on all three men and send them packing much to the delight of the sold out arena!
.
.
4th Match: Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship
Robert Fuller vs. Paul Orndorff

Great match with each man gaining the advantage at some point throughout! Finally in the end Fuller is just too much and gets the pinfall after a big powerslam @16:37
.
.
15 Minute Intermission
.
.
5th Match: NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Championship
Jerry Brisco vs. Tully Blanchard w/Johnny Weaver

This was a barn burner from the get go! Moves and counter moves, back and forth, to and fro! Young Blanchard really shows that he has come a long way by giving everything he's got to Jerry Brisco in this one. At one point Brisco tries a pinfall while holding onto Blanchard's trunks but he manages to escape before three. Johnny Weaver gets on the ring apron to complain to Sonny Fargo as Brisco runs over and clobbers him! As Brisco is taunting the fans Blanchard goes over to check on Weaver, Brisco sees the opportunity and quickly rolls Blanchard up from behind for the 1,2,3 @23:06
.
.
6th Match: NWA World Tag Team Championship
Ole and Gene Anderson vs. The Assassin and Missouri Mauler

You talk about battle of the bullies, well this sure fit the bill! These two teams don't like anybody and it sure showed in this epic fight! The tough guys from Florida show why they're one of the top teams in the NWA by giving the Anderson's all they could handle. In the end with all four men fighting outside Referee Sonny Fargo has no choice but to count both teams out @26:49
.
.
10 Minute Intermission
.
.
7th Match: "Special Grudge Match"
"Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat

After over a month of build-up the one-on-one contest between these two is finally here and for the sold out Hampton Coliseum it was well worth the wait! These two put on a clinic going back and forth matching move for move. The crowd was on their feet for the entire contest chanting "Ricky......Ricky!" throughout! Steamboat catches Flair with a double thrust off the ropes and then picks him up and bodyslams him. He then climbs to the top rope with the 13,700 fans in attendance all behind him........as Flair gets to his feet and turns around........Steamboat comes off...........BOOOOOOM!!! Steamboat hits hard on the mat as Flair has quickly fell out of the way!!! The crowd grows silent as Flair struggles to his feet and makes it over to young Steamboat to drop an elbow on him........double hook.......1.....2......3!!!! Flair gets the pinfall to win the battle......but he certainly hasn't won the war @29:57
.
.
8th Match: NWA World Heavyweight Championship
Terry Funk vs. U.S. Heavyweight Champion Masked Superstar w/Professor Malenko
"Special Referee" Wahoo McDaniel

Funk is not to keen on the idea of Wahoo as the special referee in this one! He has words with Wahoo before the bout even begins! Finally, Wahoo gets both men checked and calls for the bell as these two lock up! The match goes back and forth during most of the contest with neither man really gaining a distinct advantage until Malenko gets on the apron to argue a call with Wahoo and he chops him off the apron to the floor! This of course sets Superstar off who hits Wahoo and the Chief fights back chopping him twice to the head and as he falls backwards Funk is there to capitalize and rolls Superstar up for the 1,2,3 @31:33! Superstar is disgusted and grabs up Malenko and the two quickly head to the back as Wahoo gets the World Title to give to Funk........Wahoo looks down at the title then back at Funk.......the two exchange some words and Wahoo hands over the title..........as he turns to leave the ring Funk nails him from behind with the title!!!!! The crowd is going nuts as Funk grabs Wahoo up and piledrives him hard into the mat!! As the crowd rains down the boos Funk spat on Wahoo and left the ring under tight security!!

To bad for Tull but he is young and will get his day. My man Flair pulled it out. Funk will have hell to pay , Wahoo will be on the war path. One great show.

When Jones vs. Mosca is the second match youhave a great card. Great win by Big Nasty.

I loved the Alaskans' match. Seeing Two Ton get his just reward was great.

The Blanchard was just where it should have been. Interesting developements here.

Fuller/ Orndorff would have been great to see.

Any Steamboat/ Flair would have been a classic.

McDaniel will take care of business with Funk.

Literally sizzling in MACW.
