CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING FROM FLORIDA
TAPED AT:
TAMPA SPORTATORIUM
601 N. ALBANY
TAMPA, FLORIDA
TAPED: WEDNESDAY MORNING, JUNE 11, 1977
BROADCAST: SATURDAY, JULY 14, 1977
SYNDICATED THROUGHOUT FLORIDA AND THE SOUTHEAST
COMMENTATORS: GORDON SOLIE,
REFEREE: JIMMY TANAKA

Theme music is played and mat action is shown featuring;  Jack and Jerry Brisco, Dusty Rhodes, The Assassin, Missouri Mauler, Jim Brunzell, Eddie Graham, Steve Strong, The Manchurians, Sir Oliver Humperdink, The Spoiler, Steve Keirn, Mike Graham , and others.

The camera pans the studio and settles in on the interview desk.

The show opens up with a replay of the attack on Bob Armstrong by the man who was supposed to be his partner, Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin.

Gordon is almost apologetic as he introduces Assassins, Unlimited. The Great Bolo, Garvin, and Steve Strong come out.

Bolo introduces the team as the next Florida tag team champions. He says he liked the perks he had as the manager of the tags champs and he wants them again. Garvin says Armstrong got his name from the workout his arms got by using that crying towel. Strong says Armstrong took what belonged to him in the Florida TV by making Strong distracted. He is focused on taking Armstrong out of wrestling.

Gordon says that Strong and Garvin will get a chance to do just that on today’s program, as Armstrong and a mystery partner will face them in the main event on today’s program.

Bolo says that his team will be there and they will take care of business. Armstrong could bring in the Incredible Hulk and it would not matter. Gordon says, “We’ll see.”

The dean of wrestling says that lots of issues and confrontations will be talked about here today. Stay tuned to Championship Wrestling from Florida.

Jack Brisco is shown in a VTR. He says that he is tired of Sir Oliver Humperdink and Buddy Wolff pulling crap outside the ring to keep him from the Florida title. He will have his brother Jerry in his corner this week to keep things on the up and up.

Gordon tells the audience that the three wrestlers the fans voted on for the TV title shot today were Buck Forrest, Chief Tio, and the winner…EDDIE GRAHAM

FLORIDA TV TITLE MATCH
THE ASSASSIN w/ THE GREAT BOLO vs. EDDIE GRAHAM

Graham takes The Assassin to the limit in this match. The Assassin works on Graham’s left shoulder while graham takes out the masked man’s right leg. The bell rings as The Assassin has reversed the figure four. Assassin keeps the title with the draw.

GRAHAM-ASSASSIN—DRAW--@ 10:00

Bolo pulls at the arms of Assassin after the bell for extra leverage. Nelson Royal comes in from the back and makes the save.

Gordon talks to Royal and Graham at the desk.

Graham says that he has been involved with The Manchurians lately, but he can beat several butts at once. Royal says he came to Florida to participate in the heat of the action and he has certainly stepped into it.

Gordon says the fans will get a double treat since Royal is supposed to wrestle when CWF returns.

A film clip shows a security guard passing a bag of powder to The Assassin in St. Petersburg. The powder helps the masked man beat Dusty Rhodes.

Gordon muses that Confucius said money can’t buy happiness but it can buy security and, sadly, some fans. Dusty Rhodes will join this man, Nelson Royal, and Eddie Graham in battling The Assassins this week.

NELSON ROYAL vs. SAM STEAMBOAT

In a totally scientific bout, Royal proves to be too much for the veteran Steamboat. He blocks a suplex attempt by Steamboat and counters it with a back slide for the win.

NELSON ROYAL (W) @ 4:28

Dusty Rhodes comes out and says he is tired of all the angles The Assassin comes from. He wants to wrestle him in an empty arena match at the Miami Beach Auditorium. The fans know what The Dream can do when he is one-on-one with the dirty, nasty Assassin and he wants them to see it next week on CWF TV.

Gordon says the match has been signed and will be televised next week. He says Austin Idol will be here to give his side of the Buddy Colt conflict after they pay some bills.

A film clip shows Austin Idol losing the fall to Terry Funk in the Fort Homer Hesterly Armory on July 6th . A highlight from last week’s TV program is shown, where Buddy Colt explained his actions in attacking Idol at the Orange Bowl on July 4th.

Gordon welcomes Austin Idol to the desk. The crowd gives him a rousing welcome. Idol seems touched.

He begins to talk about the time after the plane crash that killed Bobby Shane. Idol’s feet were injured so much that there was a chance his career was over. But, spurned on by Shane’s memory and the encouragement of the others in the plane that survived, Idol reshaped his persona and his wrestling career was not over. He says that Buddy Colt was one of those men who were in his corner, or so he thought.

If there was animosity between him and Colt, why didn’t Buddy say something? The heartthrob is a real man as the ladies can attest to. He could have taken it, if it was done face to face. From behind, no man takes that. Idol says if Colt wants to go there, he will put their friendship up the Holland Tunnel. Idol says Colt cost him a real shot at the NWA title. He will cost him much more.

Gordon says, “Amen. Brother.”

AUSTIN IDOL vs. BILL WHITE

The grizzled veteran White gives idol all he can handle. Idol seems distracted but a European forearm brings him around. Idol blocks a vertical suplex by White. He counters with one of his own. He locks on the Las Vegas Leglock for the win.

AUSTIN IDOL (W) @ 3:56

Gordon says the sparks may fly next, as Buddy Colt is due to accompany The Spoiler to the ring. Stay tuned.

A local promo airs for the matches at the Miami Beach Auditorium on July 18th. Bell time is 7 PM.

Gordon tells the fans that security has accompanied Austin Idol to another area of the studio for the remainder of the show.

Sir Oliver Humperdink comes to the desk. He explains that he has given his blessing for Buddy Colt to accompany The Spoiler here today and for his Southern Title bout this week. He says Buddy Colt has a message for that Tiny Tim wanna-be.

THE SPOILER w/ BUDDY COLT vs. ABE JACOBS

Abe Jacobs has some success early on here. However, The Spoiler dominates by the end of the contest. The Spoiler hits a running power slam followed up by the claw. Jacobs is pinned.

THE SPOILER (W) @ 3:29

The Spoiler holds Jacobs for Colt to slap him Colt yells Idol as he slaps him. When he starts to yell Shane, Idol comes out with a chair. Security gets the chair but not before Idol takes a couple of swings at Colt and Spoiler.

Gordon says it may take some outside force to intervene here and settle this confrontation. The main event is next.

A local promo airs for the card at the Orlando Sports Center on July 20. Bell time is 7 PM.
.
.
A VTR airs from Sir Oliver Humperdink and The Manchurians. Humperdink says his men will put Eddie Graham and his Motel 6 buddies out. These men need to move on to the Bedrock Tag Team Champions, Steve Keirn and Mike Graham. He issues a challenge to either man to meet one of the Manchurians here next week on TV.

Gordon says that he is sure the champs will take up that challenge. Today, though, Bob Armstrong is here to introduce his partner.

Armstrong says it is funny that The Great Yellow Sock mentioned The Incredible Hulk. His partner today was in Florida shooting some scenes for that show when he saw last week’s program. He has been wrestling in the Southwest as of late and is itching to get back in the ring. He is…The Half-Hulk… RIC DRASIN.

BOB ARMSTRONG/ RIC DRASIN vs. GORGEOUS JIMMY GARVIN/ STEVE STRONG w/ THE GREAT BOLO

Armstrong and Drasin isolate Garvin and work on his leg. Strong works on Armstrong’s neck when he makes a tag. In the end, an Irish whip by Garvin is reversed by Armstrong. Armstrong dropkicks Garvin and locks on the spinning toe hold. Drasin has Strong on the floor. The Great Bolo runs in and low blows Armstrong. Tanaka calls for the bell. Drasin comes back and he and Armstrong fight to-to-toe with Garvin and Strong until the heels go to the back.

ARMSTRONG/ DRASIN (W) by DQ @ 7:28

SOLIE: So long from the Sunshine State.

All matches on today’s card are promoted under the banner of Championship Wrestling from Florida. The bouts are sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance, professional wrestling’s oldest governing body.
