"Mid-Pacific Wrestling" 7/21/77
Jul 16th, 2007, 2:47pm

“Mid-Pacific Wrestling”
KITV4 Studios
Announcers-Lord James Blears and Ed Francis
Taped-7/8/77
Airs-7/21/77

Lord James Blears and Ed Francis open the show.

Blears, “Tally-Ho and aloha everyone, welcome to paradise! What a show we have for you today. I’ll let Ed tell you about it.”

Francis, “Thank you Lord Blears. We do a lot of action scheduled today. You will see one of the most vicious men in the sport, Waldo Von Erich, in action. We will talk about the Hawaiian Tag Team Titles and the Hawaiian Singles Championship will be decided. Let’s see what happened last week.”

We see highlights of Ripper Collins defeating Steve Rickard and Don Leo Jonathan defeating the Destroyer.

Francis, “Ripper Collins and Don Leon Jonathan meet for the Hawaiian Championship later in today’s program. Now Lord James Blears is with Waldo Von Erich.”

Blears, “Mr. Von Erich, welcome to Hawaii.”

Von Erich, “Cut the pleasantries Blears. I have no interest in small talk. I am Waldo Von Erich, the greatest German athlete in history of wrestling. I have come to this uncivilized place to teach painful lessons to these savages. I will not waste time. I will destroy anyone in my path.”

Match #1
Waldo Von Erich def. Takashi Onoume (4:39) w/kneedrop

Ed Francis is with Don Leo Jonathan.

Francis, “Don, you and I go back a long way. We’ve wrestled against each other and I know how good you are. I feel very good about your chances against Collins, but you know he will try anything.”

Jonathan, “That’s right, he will. He will use any trick he can think of. I’m ready for that. I’ve been around this sport for a long time. I’ve met them all and I’ve beaten them all. Collins, you are next! I’ve got one good run left in me, and it’s going to be in Hawaii!”

Match #2
The Wild Samoans def. Superfly Tui and Robert Toronto (6:41) Afa w/Samoan drop vs. Toronto

Blears is with Steve Rickard.

Blears, “Fans, I’m here with Steve Rickard, the ‘Pride of New Zealand’. Steve, you were beaten by Ripper Collins last week, but it was not without controversy.”

Rickard, “He beat me. I’m a veteran and I need to expect anything. I’m also resilient and I’ll be back. Whoever wins today, Collins or Jonathan will have Steve Rickard to deal with.”

Blears, “Let’s go to Ed Francis with Ripper Collins.”

Francis, “Collins, you wanted no part of Jonathan last week. Now you have no choice.”

Collins, “What are you talking about Francis. That old man came into the ring after I had just finished my match. He’s uncouth. He couldn’t wait until today? What an ignoramus. Look at me, the ‘Toast of the Coast’, the ‘Man of the Hour’. I am the ‘King of the Island’ and later on today, I will prove it!”

Francis, “It will be Ripper Collins vs. Don Leo Jonathan for the Hawaii Title.”

Match #3
Steve Rickard def. Dr. Hiro Ota (6:37) w/sleeper

Blears and Francis are seated at the announce table.

Blears, “As you know, the Hawaii Singles Title will be decide in a few minutes. Now we have to sort out the tag team scene. Ed Francis and the Board of Directors have made a decision. I’ll let Ed explain it.”

Francis, “Thank you Lord Blears. The Board of Directors has met and has decided to fill the vacant Hawaii Tag Team Titles in this manner. Next week, on this program, two semi-final matches will take place. The winners of those two matches will meet at Blaisdell Arena on July 29 to decide the Championship. Lord James Blears will announce the four teams.”

Blears, “What a field we have. In the first semi-final, the Wild Samoans will meet a team from the mainland, Johnny Karisma and Jerry Monti and in the other semi-final, the Von Steiger Brothers will take on an ‘All-Hawaii’ team of Bill Francis and Sam Steamboat. It looks like a great tournament.”

Match #4
Hawaii Championship
Ripper Collins def. Don Leo Jonathan (7:42) w/bodypress with his feet on the ropes

Ripper Collins is the new “Hawaii Champion".

Collins joins Blears and Francis at the table and takes the Hawaii Championship belt.

Blears, “Collins, you cheated!”

Collins, “Cry, cry , cry! I’m the Champion!”

Francis, “You are and the referee’s decision is final. You are the Champion and you will make your first title defense on the 29th at Blaisdell, against this man.”

High Chief Peter Maivia comes out.

Blears, “Peter Maivia! He is a legend in the Islands!”

Collins, “No, no, no!”

Maivia, “That’s right Collins. I called Mr. Francis and told him I wanted to be on the show at Blaisdell. He asked me if I wanted a title shot, and I said yes. Collins, I saw what you did to Jonathan. I will take care of you!”

Francis, “Remember, July 29, at the Blaisdell Center, Peter Maivia meets Ripper Collins and Andre the Giant will be on the card. Tickets available at all ticket outlets.”
