Check out Eric Bischoff's book. It is very interesting as it reveals many of the things that were involved in the company during that period of time--reasons why stuff like Bret coming to Nitro and throwing the belt in the trash would not have happened. Suffice to say that during that '97 run of the bWo, the Turner/Time Warner merger was already underway and Bischoff was handcuffed in what he could/could not do (as handed down from the legal department). For example, Bischoff was forbidden from sending WCW camera crews and wrestlers to WWF events in response to the DX going to Nitro thing. At some point, the legal department probably just did not really care about some parody of a storyline, I mean, they did not even sue over the "Billionaire Ted" sketches that WWF aired in '96.
