Good question, I thought I was the only one to think this. I always see people at the NWA fest having people sign belts they never held, or in some cases from a federation they were never even in. *stratches head*

OK I got one for you..
Should Dibiase, sign the WWf WInged Eagle?

Of course, this is a matter of personal preference.  its your belt, so its up to you.

BUT, i can tell you what I would do.  I WOULD have DiBiase sign it.  Sure, he never actually won that title.  BUT, the angle that involved the title going off of Hogan, onto Andre, the tournament and eventually onto Savage was a VERY BIG peice of wrestling history.  Basically, he has played a large role in the history of that belt, and big part in a very big angle.  I say its worth getting his sig on it.

Why would you have people who never held the belt sign it? I doubt you can ever sell that belt for what you paid.

I'm confused.  All the above people were WWF/WWE I-C Champions at some point, so where did I get any signatures from non-title holders?

Title yes, but not the version of the belt.

Would you have Triple H sign the Winged Eagle? No. Sure they represent the same title, but the physical belt they held is different.

But if you are somewhere and have the chance to get the signature, why not do it?  Not everyone has 1 of every belt lying around, so I say take a shot and get it signed if it makes you happy.

But I totally see Dan's point.

Russ would you have your Magnum 10lbs of Gold U.S. belt autographed by Lance Storm, Hugh Morris, Shane Douglas, The Steiner Brothers, David Flair, Jeff Jarrett, Kanyon, etc?

Sure the titles they held were the same, but the physical belt was not.

Not to mention, autographs on belts, especially by those who never held it, kill all resale value of the item.

I don't get belts signed.

I also don't believe in my heart that the WCW US title is the same US title worn by Magnum, Wahoo, Valentine, Piper and such, despite what some may think.  But I may if I got belts signed have Valentine and Piper and such auto a NWA US version 1987.  Same title but no it is not the physical belt they wore.

If you dont get belts signed, Why is that belt an exception? I dont understand why some belt collectors say they dont get their belts signed.

Because his WWWF belt is a home made belt. It isn't a "real" belt in the likeness of a JMar, Millican or Parks belt in which autographs would most likely reduce it's resale value. The WWWF belt is inexpensive in comparison and can be more easily justified to have it autographed  because it will not lose that much value.

I guess that makes sense to people who buy belts who are gonna re-sell them. I buy belts to own them, not resell them. Mine are for keeps. Even if you were to re-sell a belt with autos, there are several cleaners that will take off the ink without damaging the leather.

Good luck getting all remnants of sharpie off leather without damaging it or seeing any left over residue.

The sad fact is most people who buy belts really can't afford them to begin with. That is why we have hundreds of people who buy belts, then put them up for sale a month or 2 later when bills come in and they have no money to pay them.

Things happen, priorities change, etc. Never say never. With a real belt, you are almost guaranteed to get your money back trying to sell it in a squeeze. There are not too many collectibles that hold their value short term and gain value long term like belts do.

I want to get everyones opinion on this one...

Should I have Vader sign the WCW Big Gold Belt even though the only one he had was the title that was used from 91-93?  I mean the title he had has the same lineage but he never physically had that belt...what would you all do?

Lineage? At the time Vader was WCW Champ (carrying the Reggie belt), but Big Gold was still representing the NWA World Title.
