CWF ORLANDO SHOW 7/20/77
Jul 20th, 2007, 7:17pm

CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING FROM FLORIDA
ORLANDO SPORTS CENTER
ORLANDO, FLORIDA
JULY 20, 1977 7 PM
REFEREE: LEO GARIBALDI

All matches on tonight’s card are promoted under the banner of Championship Wrestling from Florida. The bouts are sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance, professional wrestling’s oldest governing body.

--National anthem

Match 1-

DENNIS HALL defeats JACK ARMSTRONG with a chicken wing submission hold.

Time: 14:16

Match 2-

NELSON ROYAL defeats BOBBY EATON.

Eaton and Royal wrestle an even match until Eaton makes a high risk mistake. He climbs to the top rope for a fist drop to Royal’s head. Nelson moves at the last minute. As Eaton is stunned, Royal hits a bulldog for the win.

Time: 16:28

Match 3-

JIM BRUNZELL defeats MACHO MAN JOHN RINGER.

In a back and forth competitive match, Ringer makes a strategic mistake. He chooses to remove a turnbuckle pad. Brunzell catches Ringer in a sleeper. Ringer tries to back Brunzell into the exposed turnbuckle. Brunzell realizes what is about to happen and drops to the mat. Ringer hits his head on the turnbuckle. Brunzell hits a swinging neck breaker for the pin.

Time: 20:04

Match 4-

NWA WORLD JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
JERRY BRISCO defeats CIEN CARAS.

Caras and Brisco give and take a lot in this match. Brisco works on Caras’s right leg. Caras works on Brisco’s lower back. The match is very scientific until Caras hits Brisco with a European forearm on a rope break. Brisco loses his temper and the bout becomes a brawl.

Eventually, Caras has Brisco in a hangman’s back breaker. Brisco kicks off the turnbuckle, rolling down Caras’s back. He sweeps the leg and goes in for the figure four. Caras reaches and traps Brisco in a small package. Brisco counters and traps Caras in a small package of his own for the pin.

Both men shake hands after the match.

Time: 22:47

Match 5-

DUSTY RHODES/ EDDIE GRAHAM defeat THE ASSASSIN/ THE MISSOURI MAULER

Rhodes and The Assassin fight like madmen during this match. Both men try to act like tag partners, but they mostly try to hurt each other. In fact, both Rhodes and The Assassin are bloody and fighting on the floor when the end of the match occurs.

Graham has been in a bear hug by Mauler for several minutes. Mauler slams him to the floor. He climbs to the middle rope for a knee drop. Rhodes throws Assassin into the apron. He bounces off the ropes. Mauler looses his balance and falls awkwardly to the mat, hurting his ankle. Graham clamps on a figure four for the win.

Time: 22:35

Match 6-

THE MANCHURIANS w/ SIR OILVER HUMPERDINK defeat AUSTIN IDOL/ BOB ARMSTRONG

The Manchurians dominate the early part of the match. They work on the right knee of Armstrong. Their first real mistake comes when Chief Tio charges the corner. Idol snaps the neck over the top rope. Idol and Armstrong double team Tio.

Late in the match, Garibaldi gets in-between the Manchurian Monster Mash and Idol. While he is down, Humperdink goes to work. He sprays Armstrong with a bottle of something he pulls out of his sweats pocket. Tio grabs the Southern belt from the timekeeper’s desk and clobbers Idol with it. When Garibaldi regains his senses, he sees Prince Tapu with a lateral press on Idol and makes the three count.

That tag team match with Rhodes/Graham vs Assassin/Mauler, that was the match of the night IMO.  Rhodes and Graham in Florida is a true Dream Team, the fans would've loved that one.

Dusty Rhodes/Eddie Graham and Bob Armstrong/Austin Idol are two Dream Teams for sure. I hope they clash one day. Great match between Brisco and Caras.
