AWA-CWA Wrestling Live from the Civic Auditorium, Nashville, TN Bell time 7/20/77 is 7:30 pm 1) Ken Dillenger defeats Don Ross after clobbering him with a chain he pulled from his boot. 2) Bugsy McGraw defeats Mephisto with big splash in the corner. Mephisto impressed the fans coming to the ring by tossing fire, but was as effective as a wet match in the ring. 3) Black Angus Campbell, accompanied to the ring by Lord John Raven, defeats Tommy Gilbert with a big gut wrench suplex. 4) Phil Hickerson and Dennis Condrey defeat Tito Montez and Bobby Jaggers after their manager, the Miser, gets involved by distracting the official. The opening allows Dennis to deliver a double underhook piledriver to Montez and roll Hickerson on top to get the pin. 5) Lord Raven returns to the ring, this time accompanying Pat Roach to the ring and he battles the pluck Kiwi Bill Dundee to a 20-minute time limit draw. Dundee made up for in quickness what he gave away in height and almost scored a pin fall twice on the European Champion, but Lord Raven’s distractions on the outside saved his man the shame of a loss. 6) In a huge 6-man tag team contest, Tojo Yamamoto’s trio of Sugar Bear Harris, Butch Malone, and “Professor” Bill Ash defeat Jerry “the King” Lawler and the AWA Southern Tag Team Champions Tommy Rich and Ricky Fields. It appeared that Lawler’s team would get the best of their opposition, but once the Sugar Bear got in the ring, nobody could move him. It took a big double drop kick from the tag champions to finally get him off his feet, but as official Tommy Morton was ushering Rich back to his corner, Butch Malone delivered a boot to the skull and threw Ricky Fields into the far corner. Harris then delivered a running splash for the 1-2-3. 7) In a match for the AWA Southern Heavyweight Title, “Outlaw” Ron Bass defeats Ronnie Garvin by disqualification after the official catches Garvin with a foreign object that had originally been tossed into the ring for Bass to use. The Nashville crowd was squarely behind Garvin and were very vocal after the DQ, showering Yamamoto san and the Southern Champion with debris on their way to the locker room.
