Backstage Agents
Jul 21st, 2007, 1:21pm

We all know who the backstage agents are in the WWE these days. We also frequently heard who backstage agents were in the Monday Night Wars era. I have always wondered if Dusty had any agents during the Crockett heyday in the mid to late 80s. I know JJ Dillon worked as one of his top assistants, but did anyone else help fill that role or did Dusty do the majority of that work himself?

Yeah I remember Wahoo coming out from backstage trying to separate Sting and Flair in their brawl at the Texas Shootout Clash. I also remember reading that Wahoo still wanted to work in the ring, but Jim Herd would not let him do so.

Gene Anderson continued to work in the office after his in-ring days were over. JJ was an assistant to Rhodes. Would Sandy Scott be considered an agent? I know he was on t.v. in a semi-authority role during the mid 80s.

Magnum TA was an assistant to Dusty when he came back to WCW in 1991 I believe.

Did they even have official 'agents' back in the JCP days? I'm not sure that that job role was as defined as it is today. My understanding  is that you would always have someone assisting the booker, as well as people who were 'office' to enforce the wishes of the 'powers that be' politically on the spot shows where Dusty / Crockett / Flair weren't present, usually top wrestlers (for example Cornette tells a story on a shoot interview of Dick Slater being the 'booker' / point man on a spot show tour).

It's a good question - maybe something we could put to this boards own resident Loverboy, Dennis Condrey....

I am guessing Johnny Weaver worked in this capacity as well, since there has been a lot referenced in recent weeks about all of his behind the scenes work in the NWA after he retired.
