NACW 7/22/77
Jul 22nd, 2007, 10:12am

7/22/77 Fairbanks,Alaska

the hot crowd in Alasks is thrilled to be a part of the NACW event in their city!!!
in the first match:
Los Brazos defeat Jerry Estrada-Hector Lamas

Terry Gordy-Genichiro Tenyru vs. Michael Hayes-Hiro Matsuda.
not a bad fight. all four go at it strong. at the 13 minute mark, Hayes is slugging it out with Tenyru on the outside while Matsuda catches Gordy in an ankle lock right in the middle of the ring. from the back runs in Sonny King who kicks Matsuda in the head and then piledrives him, and then runs to the back, as the referee is distracted by the other two men. Gordy covers Hiro..1..2..KICKOUT!!! Hayes runs in and kicks Gordy. Tenyru comes in and clotheslines Hayes as Gordy applies the thumb to the neck of Matsuda.....in seconds, Matsuda is out and pinned by Gordy.

Perro Aguayo vs Chavo Guerrero.
the crowd angers Chavo. he grabs the microphone and tears into them for "turning on" him...he then says, "all i know is that if your name is 'Perro' then you mother must be a bitc...." BAMMM!!!!!! Aguayo punches him in the mouth. they brawl everywhere. the bell rings but..who cares? the fight is on. Chavo is bloodied after a few more punches. they go all over the arena floor. a few minutes later, Chavo grabs him by the trunks and falls down, slinging Perro into the turnpost. he puts him back in the ring, and then covers Aguayo for the pin....

Roger Kirby battles Don Muraco to a double DQ. both are counted out of the ring.

AWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP Crusher-Dick the Bruiser vs Mark Rocco-Jim Breaks, with Lord Alfred Hays.
the British Army return to NACW, this time with Hays in their corner and a shot at the world belts.
the Brits may be a tad smaller than the champs, but that is to their advantage. Breaks tears Dick down to his knees and starts to work on his back and legs. as Crusher comes in later, both men work on his legs.
bringing down the big guys is not easy. they fight back. after about 20 minutes, Crusher clothesline Breaks. he then gets on top and punches him repeatedly. Hays is insane here as he argues with the referee. Rocco goes in for the save but Dick kicks him in the gut. both men are down. the referee counts..1..2..Breaks puts his foot on top of the rope..3!!!! the referee counted 3 as Crusher covered Breaks. Rocco-Hays contest the call to the referee. the referee says is decision is final.

AWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: Nick Bockwinkle vs NORTH AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT champion, Billy Anderson.
how to top the tag title match? heres' how...
both men struggle the entire bout. no rules are broken..maybe strained some, but not broken. Anderson works the leg. Bockwinkle fights it. he makes the ropes. this goes on and on. the champ lands a few forearms once to his feet. Anderson shakes it off. this is an even match.
near falls are rare. it's just grappling. Anderson still works the legs. eventually, he manages to get Nick worked down and Anderson applies....the Indian Deathlock!!!! this has the champ struggling. Bockwinkle finally hits the ropes. they break. both struggle to get to their feet. the champs lands two hard forearms to the jaw of Anderson. Billy goes down. Bockwinkle grabs him by the ankles and flips forward into a pinning position. the referee gets down..1..2..3!!!! Bockwinkle has pinned Anderson in 47:15!!!!
both men pick each other up and shake hands, followed by a hug of respect...

WHAT????

The British Army WAS ROBBED! How can those fossils Bruiser and Crusher keep up in the ring with the speed and shall I say grace of Rocco and Breaks? Even in teh end, those old men had to rely on a half blinded official missing a foot on the ropes to save their belts. A great performance none the less that establishes Breaks and Rocco as a team to beat if you really want a shot at the World Titles.

An impressive performance from Billy Anderson. He has really stepped up is game since coming to NACW and I think this showing against Bock helps keep Billy near the top on the list of rising stars.

Rocco and Breaks need to be called the uncrowned champions here.

King going after Matsuda here? Interesting.

Anderson is showing why he was worthy of that Anderson name. Great bout with Bock.

Great stuff.
