AWA-CWA Wrestling Live from Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, AR Bell time 7/21/77 is 7:00pm 1) “Mr. Ebony” Tom Jones and Burrhead Jones defeat Ken Dillenger and Bugsy McGraw after Burrhead drills the biker Dillenger with a pair of dizzying head butts. From there, Mr. Ebony locked on a full nelson and got the submission victory. 2) Canada’s next great athlete, Kelly Kiniski defeats “Mr. America” Don Ross by disqualification when Ross refuses to let go of a chokehold. Ross pounds away even after the loss on Kelly before grabbing the ring microphone and berating the fans for cheering for Kiniski rather than “Mr. America”. Ross flexes a bit for the fans, but this only brings more boos and finally he leaves, just as Kelly is regaining his feet. 3) Black Angus Campbell, with Lord John Raven by his side, defeats Big Bill Howard with a suplex that drives the Howard into the canvas. Raven’s presence and mannerisms alone ignite the crowd and get a huge cascade of boos for even the short performance in the ring. 4) “Superstar” Bill Dundee defeats the Spider in a highflying contest that sees Bill capitalize when the Spider misses a huge elbow drop off the top rope. Dundee delivers a slam then goes up top and hits the bomb’s away to secure the win over the masked man. 5) Sugar Bear Harris defeats Tommy Gilbert in a hard fought 18 minute match that sees Gilbert hold his own with the massive man until he tries to deliver a body slam. Gilbert can’t get Harris off his feet and then gets whipped into the corner and splashed hard. The sheer mass of Harris keeps Tommy down for the 1-2-3. 6) Jerry “the King” Lawler and Pat Roach wrestle to a double count out as both men ignore the official’s count in an intense fight almost 30 minute in. Lord Raven was urging on his man, but the crowd was solidly behind Lawler against the European Champion. 7) In the main event, Tommy Rich and Ricky Fields barely survive the challenge from “Professor” Bill Ash and Butch Malone as the 45-minute time limit runs out with Ash in the midst of a pin on Tommy Rich after hitting the Arkansas Whiplash on the fiery youngster. There was great ebb and flow in the match with each team coming close to walking away with the gold, but it was obvious that Ash and Malone were just moments away from getting the gold.
