AWA/SWCW TV 7/29/77 & 7/31/77 title show!
Jul 24th, 2007, 7:12pm

AWA/SWCW T.V. Show
Announcers Gene Kelly and Rapido Rodriguez
Sunday July 29th.  1977

Welcome everyone to SWCW wrestling. I am Gene Kelly alongside Rapido Rodriguez. We have a big night for the SWCW fans. But first I would like to send out my best wishes to John Studd. John was in a very bad car wreck today. From what we have been told it took place on Hwy 37 outside of Corpus Christi at 5:30a.m. John was taken to a local Hospital for test and he has a broken leg and two broken ribs. From the report we got it was raining hard in the area and a car must have cut John off. He lost it on the wet road and hit hard into a wall at one of the off ramps. The other car did not stop and no info has been given about the car or lice #.  We now go to the tape of the G.M. and Mil Mascaras early today. “Tape is played and shows Mil give the SWCW Tag Titles to the G.M. of SWCW.” That fans was a hard thing to watch. John from all of us at SWCW we wish you the best and hurry back big man. We now go to the ring.

“The G.M. is in our ring”

“Ric”

I have been in a meeting with the AWA President Eddie Einhorn. He has given me some big news that will turn SWCW upside down. The AWA have re-named the SWCW Jr. Title to the World Light Heavy Weight Championship. Angel Blanco will stay the champion. The new weight class will be 214lbs. This will take Johnny Saint out of the running for his title shot with Angel. Mr. Einhorn has sent SWCW 2 new World Titles. The first title is the World Six Man Tag Titles. Over the next month we will crown the new champions. The second title is the World Middle- Weight Championship. With this title the weight class has changed to 192lbs. The AWA has given me the ok for Johnny Saint to be given this title. “At this point Saint walks into the ring”

“Saint”

Ric I think you and the AWA but I don’t take a title that I did not win. I will fight for the belt but will not let anyone hand it to me.

“Ric”

That is good to hear Johnny. I did not like the idea of just saying you are the new World Middle-Weight Champion. I will hold this belt up. By the end of the show I will have matches set up for next Wed. July 31st. to crown the World Middle-Weight Champion . Johnny best of luck to you and your quest for the gold. On a less happy note we at SWCW would like to wish John Studd a fast recovery , we hope to see him get back in the ring soon. SWCW does not like to have any title open for long and we have set up matches to crown the new SWCW Tag Team Champions. This is how the match up will go. All of the matches will take place on August 3rd. This night will be called Tag Team War!! And will be in Corpus Christi. We will add more matches later to this big show and hope to see all of you at the show.

Mil Mascaras/ Sicodelico vs. The Russians

Tito Santana / Lizmark vs. Angel Blanco/ Dr. Wagner

Black Cat vs. El Canek

“Canek was all over Black Cat at the bell. Canek sent Cat hard to the floor. Canek is out after him with boots to the face and head. Canek picks Cat up and sends him hard to the ring post. Canek put the Cat back into the ring. Canek got back into the ring and hit a big boot to the face of the Cat. Canek picks Cat up high over his head and dropped him across his knee. Cat is out and Canek made the cover 1…2…NO CANEK PICKS HIM UP. CANEK HIT A SHORT CLOSE LINE. CANEK HIT A KNEE DROP FROM THE SECOND ROPE. CANEK NOW LOCKED ON A SNAP SUPLEX. CANEK MADE THE COVER. 1…2…3 Canek is not finished he got a chair and made it back into the ring. He took the chair and placed it in the corner , he sent Cat face first into it.

 “Rapido Rodriguez”

El Canek why did you just do that? You took that young man and have almost broken him in half. What has come over you in the fast few weeks?

“El Canek”

Like I told all of you. I am the new El Canek. I will not take a back seat to no man. SWCW has made me into a monster and I have been let out of my cage. Look out SWCW I am on the hunt. I have taken out the Texas size bag of trash Bobby Duncum. I now have my eyes on a bigger prize. That is all I will say for now.

  “Rapido Rodriguez”

Thanks for the time we will just have to wait and see what will come of this

El Olympico/ Fishman vs. Swede Hansen / Rip Hawk

“This was the first show for Swede and Rip in SWCW. As the bell ring Swede takes it to Fishman. Swede made the tag to Rip who takes his elbow and drives it into the eye of Fishman. The match is all Swede and Rip. They use good double teams and fast tags to keep Fishman in the ring for most of the match. Rip hit the pile driver on Olympico for the 3 count.”

“Gene Kelly”

Welcome to SWCW you have just made a splash with that big win. What do you have to say?

“Rip”

I say shut up. We will tell you when it is your time to talk. We have come to SWCW for one reason and that is to take the tag titles off Mil and Big John. After what we just heard John is out and Mil had to give up the belts. That is too bad we were looking forward to kicking the crap out of both of them.

“Swede”

That is right Rip we have just started and SWCW will never be the same when we get finished. Look out boy we are home!!!

Solar vs. Dr. Wagner (TV Title Match)

“Wagner had his A game with him. He locked on the gory special for the submission.”

“Rapido Rodriguez”

In case you don’t know this but Paul Ellering has been calling you out for weeks. What do you have to say about this?

“Dr. Wagner”

I have been told about him and what he has said about me. I have been working in Mexico City and could not get back until now. Paul I will give you a title shot. You just have to do one small thing. You have to wrestle 3 matches in one night. If you get a win out of each match I will give you a title shot. I will name my list next week. I am looking forward to your answer.”

“Rapido Rodriguez”

What will Paul have to say about this one fans?

Mil Mascaras vs. The Russian Assassin

“Mil was on fire and took the fight to the Russian. Mil keep up the power moves at the start and then after the Assassin had been worked over he went big. Mil could not be stopped. Mil hit the shoulder block. Mil now has the Assassin down. Mil goes up top and hit the double ax handle for the 3 count. After the match was over Rip and Swede hit the ring. They go to work on Mil. Mil got a few rights in but that would not stop them. The Assassin got his chain and as Swede and Rip held Mil up he used the chain to smash the face of Mil. You can see red as it covers the white mask of Mil.”

AWA/SWCW
7/31/77
Brownsville Texas
Each match is one fall with a 20min. time limit.

First. Round

Anibal  vs. Lizmark

“Anibal got the jump on Lizmark at the bell. Anibal keeps up the ground work. Lizmark pulls out of an arm bar and is back to his feet. The match picks up speed as Lizmark has Anibal hurt. The end came when Anibal missed a shoulder block into the corner and Lizmark rolled him up for the 3 count.”

Rene Guajardo vs. Blue Panther

“Panther could not dill with the mat wrestling of Rene. Rene keep up his wrestling holds until he locked on an arm bar submission out of nowhere. Panther had to tap or his arm would have been broken.”

 Fishman vs. Jim Breaks

"Fast pace at the start of this match. Breaks had a way about him. You can tell he likes to hurt people. Breaks takes his elbow and grinds it into the face of Fishman. Fishman worked back into the match and has Breaks on the ropes. As Fishman sent Breaks into the far ropes it is stopped short and Breaks hit a knee to the gut. Breaks set up a superplex for the 3 count.”

Solar vs. Marc Rocco

“There was some very good action in this match. Rocco keep Solar on the ground most of the match. Rocco worked the arm and shoulder of Solar. Rocco hit a shoulder breaker for the 3 count.”

"Saint got a pass"

15 min. Break

Second Round

Lizmark vs. Rene Guajardo

“The fans loved this match from bell to bell. Both men would not back down and put all they had out on the line. Lizmark was the one to make the mistake and missed a cross body block. Rene locked on fujiwara armbar for the submission.

 Marc Rocco vs. Johnny Saint

“Saint was well rested as he got a pass in the first round. Saint went to work on the back of Rocco. Saint made fast work of Rocco who looked to out of gas from his first match. Rocco did land a scoop slam and hit a knee drop off the second rope for a near 3 but did not hook the leg. Saint was back up and with the campana locked Rocco up. Rocco had to give he was in so much pain.”

"Jim Breaks got a pass"

Third Round

Rene Guajardo  vs. Jim Breaks

“Breaks had keep Rene off his feet for a long time. He worked the back and left leg. Rene did make it back to his feet but Breaks hit the tiger suplex into the pin for the big 3 count”

15 min. Break

Final

Johnny Saint vs. Jim Breaks

“Saint took the fight to Breaks. This was a smart move because Breaks has had two other matches tonight. Each match has taken a lot out of him. Breaks slows down the action and get his breath back. Breaks does not take long and this gives Saint time to mount a comeback. Saint hit a drop kick that almost took the head of Breaks off. Saint moves in and locks on the spider twist for the submission. Saint is the new AWA World Middle-Weight Champion!!!”

Great win by Saint. Boy, there are a lot of titles in SWCW. Very interesting.

Studd out is awful. Is this a trade or the monkey wrench? Or, just a set up for something later?

I like Rip and Swede jumping in with Mil. The Brothers against Rip and Swede would be great.

Lots of stuff in SWCW.

-As long as I have been doing this I have not heard of anyone with the monkey wrench. Did that get dropped? This was part of my story line. You will have to keep a check on this as time goes by and see what comes out of it.

-"The Brothers against Rip and Swede would be great" You can see what I have going befro I get to it LOL.

-SWCW has alot of smaller wrestlers and it was an idea pitched to me , I liked it and with ENLL this worked out for the best. The 3 new titles are AWA World titles and any AWA person can book them. For the most part they will be in SWCW , ENLL.

I'm really interested in seeing what happens with John. It's definititely going to keep me tuning in each week. SWCW TV shows may have the most-action packed matches in both AWA and NWA. Keep up the great work!

I get told I put to much action on TV , but to me you show them good TV and they will pack the house show to see what will go down that night. I also found out the SWCW did put on action packed TV shows in the day I did not see any of them so I hope I am doing right by them.

Jim Breaks was seconds away from taking Johnny Saint into the dumpster where he belongs. After a week of battling the AWA's top tag teams, it says something that both he and Marc Rocco advanced as far as they did. Sometime soon, I'm betting that one of them, if not both, will have World Championship gold around their waist.

A little surprised that a Luchadore from SWCW didn't get to the main, given the strong Mexican influence here. Solar might be a shocker to everyone as he is a top talent.

Losing Studd will hurt SWCW in the short term, but Mascaras bringing in El Sicodelico is a strong move on his part. Together, they can match the power of almost any team put out there.

2 strong shows.
