AWA-CWA 7/25/77 Garvin v. Bass/ Lawler v. Harris
Jul 25th, 2007, 10:59pm

AWA-CWA Wrestling
Live from the Louisville Gardens, Louisville, KY
Bell time 7/25/77 is 7:30 pm

1)      The duo of “Mr. Ebony” Tom Jones and Burrhead Jones defeats Big Bill Howard and Ken Dillenger after Burrhead drills Ken with a big pair of head butts and Mr. Ebony locked on a swinging full nelson for the submission victory.

2)      Kelly Kiniski defeats Bobby Jones after connecting on a big Canadian back breaker. Kiniski showed a great deal of technical skill, dominating Jones.

3)      The Spider defeats Tito Montez after the Miser gets involved in the match by knocking Tito off the top rope as he was preparing for a big flying body press. The Miser secured his investment by slipping the Spider a foreign object that ended up in his elbow pad as he connected with a flying elbow drop off the top rope.

4)      In what could be the most brutal match seen in Louisville in quite some time, Bobby Jaggers and Dutch Mantel wrestle Dennis Condrey and Phil Hickerson to a bloody double disqualification as all four men simply ignore the official’s instructions and beat each other into oblivion. When other wrestlers come out to separate the teams, all four men turn and beat them back only to turn back to each other once the ring was again clear. Finally, Condrey gets knocked over the top rope to the floor and Phil retreats rather than take on both Jaggers and the Dutchman.

5)      “Professor” Bill Ash, with his tag team partner Butch Malone, defeats “Superstar Bill Dundee in a battle of top junior heavyweights. Dundee impressed the fans, hitting a big drop kick on Malone as he was trying to distract the official, but it allowed Ash to get into position and hit Dundee with the Arkansas Whiplash to get the 1-2-3.

6)      Black Angus Campbell defeats Tommy Gilbert in a hard fought contest that sees Campbell use a variety of suplexes to counter the headlocks, punches, and kicks of Gilbert. Angus does get the duke after connecting on a big gut wrench suplex as Lord John Raven hold Gilbert’s boot to secure the pin.

7)       Sugar Bear Harris defeats Jerry “the King” Lawler after the King’s legs gave out from under
him as he tried to slam the massive Harris and the concussion with the mat caused the Jerry to have the wind knocked out for too long to beat the three count. After the match, Yamamoto san ordered Harris to splash Lawler, looking to injure his ribs. This order drew out Kelly Kiniski and the bruised and batters forms of Bill Dundee and Tommy Gilbert. 3 on 1 odds were too much and Harris retreated to the back with Yamamoto yelling that each man was now on Harris’s list.

8)      In the main event, Ron Garvin defeats Outlaw Ron Bass by count out in a battle for the Southern Heavyweight Title. Each man came close to a pin fall, but a big clothesline from Garvin sent Bass to the floor and the worn out champion could not beat referee Tommy Morton’s ten count. Bass keeps the title despite the loss.

Boy, Bass sure wins by any means necessary.

Lawler losing to Harris was a surprise.

Too bad Montez had to lose but I guess it made sense.

Nice use of Jaggers and Mantell here.

I will continue to read and marvel how you have fused Memphis tradition and your unique style, Midwest.

Another good win by the Jones boys!

The build with young Kiniski is going very good.

Loved the Jaggers/Mantel vs. Hickerson/Condrey match!
