AWA in Buffalo, NY  7-27-77
Jul 26th, 2007, 7:27pm

WWA Wrestling!
Friday night, July 27, 1977
Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, NY

-----------------------------------------------------------

Match #1
1 fall, 20 minute time limit

Fred Curry & Luis Martinez
defeat Mike Loren & Bruce Swayze.
Loren and Swayze gain an early advantage when they attack their opponents before the bell rings.  Curry and Martinez eventually turn things around, and Martinez hits Loren with the Mexican Stump Puller, leading to the pinfall victory.

Match #2
1 fall, 20 minute time limit

Billy Red Cloud
defeats Masked Assassin #1 w/ George Cannon.
Cannon and Assassin are both in the ring to start, Red Cloud wants Cannon to leave the ring, but Cannon refuses!  Finally the referee gets Cannon to leave the ring, but it gives the Assassin a chance to attack from behind.  The next few minutes are all Assassin, he keeps Red Cloud down on the mat and works him over.  Late in the match, Red Cloud manages to turn things around and take control of the match.  Cannon gets up on the ring apron, but Red Cloud whips the Assassin into him, knocking Cannon to the floor, and dazing the masked man.  As the Assassin stumbles backwards, Red Cloud rolled him up for the pinfall victory.

Match #3
1 fall, 30 minute time limit

BlackJack Mulligan
defeats Wilbur Snyder.
Mulligan paces like a caged animal, waiting for Snyder to enter the ring.  As soon as Wilbur climbs through the ropes, Mulligan charges at him, but Snyder is ready!  He staggers Mulligan with a series of rights and lefts.  From that point on, Snyder takes control of the match.  It's short-lived though, Mulligan turns things around.  BlackJack pummels Snyder, pounding him into the mat.  Mulligan goes for the Claw, but Wilbur tries to fight it off.  Snyder finally fights Mulligan off, and goes back on the offensive.  Snyder gets a series of nearfalls, but couldn't put Mulligan away.  In the end, Mulligan moves out of the way as Snyder charges at him in the corner.  Snyder hits the turnbuckles, then staggers out of the corner, where Mulligan quickly applies the Claw for the submission victory.

Match #4
1 fall, 30 minute time limit
Battle of the Bullies!

Abdullah the Butcher w/ Bruce Swayze
defeats Masked Assassin #2 w/ George Cannon.
The fans aren't sure who they want to get behind in this rare battle of the bullies.  Eventually, they seem to side with the Masked Assassin, they boo the Butcher loudly.  Early on, both men enjoy the advantage, they go back and forth...until the Butcher produces his always-present fork!  The Butcher jabs the masked man repeatedly in the head with the fork, ripping pieces of the mask off.  Abdullah manages to keep this out of sight of the referee.  The Assassin tries to fight back, but the Butcher overpowers him.  In the end, Abdullah hits the bloody Assassin with the Sudanese Elbowdrop, leading to the pinfall.

Match #5
Best 2 out of 3 falls, 60 minute time limit
North American Tag Team Championship Match:

The Graham Brothers (Champions)
defeat Dino Bravo & Gino Brito (Challengers).

FALL #1: Luke Graham pins Brito following a piledriver.
FALL #2: Bravo pins Jerry Graham after applying the Airplane Spin to Graham.
FALL #3: Jerry Graham pins Brito following an atomic kneedrop.

Semi Main Event
Best 2 out of 3 falls, 60 minute time limit
North American Heavyweight Championship Match:

Bulldog Brower (Champion)
defeats Sailor Art Thomas (Challenger).

FALL #1: Thomas forces Brower to submit to a Full Nelson
FALL #2: Brower pins Thomas after hitting him with brass knux, out of sight of the referee.
FALL #3: Thomas is still groggy in the third fall, and Brower simply pounds him into submission.  Brower gets on top of Thomas and brings several clubbing blows down onto Art's head.  The referee notices that Thomas is pretty much out of it, and calls for the bell, giving the third and final fall to Brower.

Main Event
1 fall, 60 minute time limit

Bobo Brazil
defeats The Sheik w/ Bruce Swayze.
This rivalry has been raging on for what seems like forever.  They've spilled a lot of blood, and this match is no different.  They both tear into each other as soon as the bell rings.  For the next several minutes, these two pound away on each other.  The Sheik gets an early advantage when he rakes the eyes of Bobo, but Brazil quickly turns the tide, and has The Sheik on the ropes.  Late in the match, Bobo has the advantage, and nails The Noble One with a series of Cocoa-Butt headbutts, knocking the Sheik senseless.  Bobo moves in and covers him, picking up the pinfall victory!

Huge fan of Brower and I like how you've booked him here. THe North Amrican Title really will mean something to the fans in this territory, whoever it actually belongs to.

The Grahams as tag champs sends a message that nobody will get by easy in this region for gold. Luke may be getting long in the tooth, but Jerry Jr. still probably has a while left to go in his career.

Mulligan and Snyder that low on the card was a real treat to the fans. Quality win for Blackjack.

Bobo and the Sheik, while a big draw in this region, is a feud I'm really wearing thin on. Thankfully, this ending as one that I haven't seen very often: a clean victory...

Strong house show from I'm guessing Toronto looking at the booker here.

Brower defending the North American title here puts one of my favorite wrerstlers in the spotlight.

Mulligan vs. Snyder puts some of the great AWA wrestlers in the ring for the fans.

Hope Brito and Bravo get another shot at the Grahams.

Please help me understand. Bruiser is the WWA champ, Brower is the NA champ, and The Grahams are the NA tag champs. Any other WWA titles?

Great stuff.

Yeah, I guess I should explain what's happened here.

Originally, the WWA was going to be just Indianapolis.  Well, in order to better compete against the evil WWWF, PolishPowderKeg and I decided to expand into the old NWF towns of Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

So, we already had Dick the Bruiser as the WWA Heavyweight Champion.  He's going to be more the focus of the Indianapolis leg of the WWA territory.

Bulldog Brower was awarded the North American title, mainly due to his status as a former North American Champion in both the NWF and the IWA.  He will be more the focus of the Buffalo/Pittsburgh/Cleveland leg of the territory.

The Graham Brothers won a match for the vacant North American Tag Team Titles a few weeks ago.

I know it did get a little confusing there, hopefully this helps.

yeah it is a bit confusing since the NA titles i have in NACW WERE the IWA titles last year before the change.  guess that can give us a fued or two for down the road, maybe?

mulligan and brower had the best bouts.

These titles don't have anything to do with the old IWA titles, or the NACW titles.

Several promotions had North American titles, like the NWF (which is what I based these ones on), AGPW, Calgary, I think even Florida did for a little while.

I don't see any reason why two promotions in different parts of the country can't both have North American titles, especially considering IRL, there were about a dozen versions of the NWA World Tag Team Title at any given time, and no one seemed to mind.
