AWA-CWA 7/27/77 Nville Garvin-Bass/Campbell-Lawler
Jul 28th, 2007, 9:59am

AWA-CWA Wrestling
Live from the Civic Auditorium, Nashville, TN
Bell time 7/27/77 is 7:30 pm

1)      The Medics defeat Big Bill Howard and Ken Dillenger after Medic #2 locked on the dreaded claw hold on Dillenger to get the submission.

2)      Canada’s next great athlete, Kelly Kiniski, defeats Burrhead Jones in a strong scientific match up that sees the veteran miss a falling headbutt attempt on Kiniski to allow Kelly the opening he needed to take over and finish the match with a big Canadian back breaker before the 1-2-3.

3)      “Mr. Ebony” Tom Jones, in a rare singles appearance, roughs up the muscular but inexperienced Don Ross. Mr. Ebony controlled the match from bell to bell, wearing him down with repeated head butts, neck vices, and finally a swinging full nelson that brought out the submission from Ross.

4)      Newcomer Dutch Mantel and the Spider wrestle to a 20-minute time limit draw that is much more of a street fight than a classic wrestling contest. The Dutchman was almost disqualified right at the opening bell when the Spider spit in his face, but that set the tone of contention between the two men. The Miser tried to make his presence felt, but he ended up feeling the butt of Mantel’s bullwhip.

5)      “Superstar” Bill Dundee defeats Bugsy McGraw with a the Bomb’s away after a brutal match that saw both men busted open during the match.

6)      Ricky Fields and Tommy Rich defeat “Professor” Bill Ash and Butch Malone to retain the AWA Southern Tag Team Titles after Fields delivers a low drop kick to Malone and Tommy follows that up with a spinning toe hold to secure the victory by submission.

7)      Black Angus Campbell, with Pat Roach and Lord John Raven, defeats Jerry “the King” Lawler thanks to a big double team beating that occurs after Campbell misses with a big running clothesline that instead takes down the referee. Lawler looked for his pile driver here, but as he was set to take Angus up, a big running boot to the head by Pat Roach drilled the King. Then, with Lawler down, Roach delivered a big knee drop off the second rope and cleared the ring quickly enough so that all the official could see was Angus delivering a gut wrench suplex to Jerry to finish things off for the 1-2-3.

8)      Tojo Yamamoto leads Outlaw Ron Bass to the ring to defend his Southern Heavyweight Title against Ron Garvin and the Outlaw barely escapes with his title as he and Ronnie go to a 45-minute time limit. Garvin and Bass traded heavy punches all match long, but Ronnie looked ready to get the pin as he went up top for a sunset flip, connecting and pinning the champ for the 1-2-DING! DING! DING! Garving jumps up ecstatic, but when he reaches for the belt, he and the fans are told that the match went the 45-minute time limit and that Ron Bass retained the title.

Bass seems to be able to hold onto the title by the skin of hs teeth. Great effort by Garvin. The time limit for the match allowed the story to be told.

Lawler has three guys to deal with. The crowd would have rioted!

A low dropkick by Fields? Sauce for the goose, I guess.

Love the bullwhip, Shoo' Baby, I believe.

Great win by Kiniski.

Poor Ross. He really wasn't that good, I guess.

Great show.

You got something big with the Ron vs. Ron. I like what you have done with your shows they are very good and you have made CWA a top group.
