Hosted by Lord Athol Layton
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

.
.
The opening plays, accompanied by Herb Alpert’s A Bandita.  We see short clips of some of the stars that have appeared on Maple Leaf Wrestling over the years, like Whipper Billy Watson, Gene Kiniski, Bruno Sammartino, Johnny Valentine, Jack Brisco and many more.

We then join Lord Athol Layton standing behind a podium with the Maple Leaf Wrestling logo on it, behind him, the Maple Leaf Wrestling logo and a big red and green Maple Leaf.

Layton: "Cheery-O everyone, welcome to Maple Leaf Wrestling, I'm Lord Athol Layton.  Whether you're on the East coast, the West coast or anywhere in between, we thank you for inviting us into your homes each and every week.  We've got a fantastic show lined up for you today.  The Russian Bear, Ivan Koloff, will be in singles action, as will the Portugese Champion, Carlos Rocha.  We'll see the big man from Eagle Pass, Texas, BlackJack Mulligan in action, and we'll talk with AWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwinkel!  It's going to be a great show, so let's go up to the ring and get things started."

MATCH #1 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
Carlos Rocha defeats Golden Boy Apollo after nailing Apollo with a dropkick, leading to the pinfall.

After the match, Rocha walks over to the set and joins Layton.

Layton: "Mr. Rocha, it's always a pleasure to have you here with us on Maple Leaf Wrestling."

Rocha: Thank you Lord.  It's a pleasure to be here.  I always thought of Toronto as my home, and it's good to be back.  Toronto is a wonderful city, the people here are great, and I hope they'll all come out to see me when I wrestle.  It always helps to have the fans behind you in a tough match."

Layton: "Speaking of tough matches, you certainly have a tough match ahead of you when you face Chris Tolos on August 9 at Exhibition Stadium."

Rocha: "You're right, that's going to be a tough challenge for me alright, but I'm confident that I can win that match."

Layton: "Ladies and gentlemen, the Portugese Champion, Carlos Rocha.  When we come back, we'll take a look at the "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff in singles action."

Layton: One of the most brutal, vicious men in this sport today is a man that calls himself the Russian Bear, Ivan Koloff.  Mr. Koloff will be returning to Toronto on August 9 at Exhibition Stadium, but in the meantime, we've got some footage of the Russian Bear in action, from Georgia Championship Wrestling."

MATCH #2 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
Ivan Koloff defeats a Preliminary opponent, from Georgia TV, after hitting his opponent with a top-rope kneedrop, leading to the pinfall.

We go to Ivan Koloff, standing in front of a Georgia Championship Wrestling banner.

Koloff: "On August 9, Koloff will return to Toronto to face Mr. Wrestling.  It is no surprise that Mr. Wrestling hides his face under a mask, if I was a weak, puny American, I would hide my face in shame too!  Mr. Wrestling, on August 9, you must step in the ring with the Russian Bear, and not only will you fall in defeat to Koloff, but I will rip that mask right off your head and expose your face!"

Layton: "Strong words from the Russian Bear, Ivan Koloff.  I will tell you fans, I've been in the ring with Koloff, and he's about as vicious as any man I've ever had the misfortune of facing in the ring.  Mr. Wrestling will certainly have his work cut out for him.  We've got to take another quick commercial break, but when we come back, we'll talk with reigning AWA World Heavyweight Champion, Nick Bockwinkel."

Layton: "After the big Canada Day spectacular at Exhibition Stadium, I had a chance to sit down with Nick Bockwinkel in the dressing room.  Mr. Bockwinkel had just received word that he would be defending the World Heavyweight Title on August 9 against U.S. Champion The Sheik in a title vs title match!  This is what Nick had to say about that."

Pre-taped Interview w/ AWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwinkel.

Layton: "Mr. Bockwinkel, we just received word that on August 9, when the AWA returns here to Exhibition Stadium, you will put the World Heavyweight Championship on the line against the wildman from Syria, the Sheik.  But, the Sheik's United States Championship will be on the line as well."

Bockwinkel: "Layton, I will admit, I've never been in the ring with anyone quite like The Sheik before.  But, the thing that makes me the very best wrestler walking the planet is that I can adjust my style, depending on who my opponent is.  I've been studying hours and hours of videotape of the Sheik's matches, and I'll tell you right now, the Sheik will be just another opponent, I'll pin his shoulders to the mat, just like I do with everyone else I step into the ring with."

Layton: "And, of course, his U.S. Title will be on the line as well for that match."

Bockwinkel: "That's right, that United States title belt will look very nice in my trophy case at home."

We cut back to Layton on the set of Maple Leaf Wrestling.

Layton: "Nick Bockwinkel is certainly never lacking for confidence, but he is the World Heavyweight Champion, so one could say that he has a right to be confident, he's held that title for a number of years now, facing the very best wrestlers in the World night after night.  One thing is for certain, fans, this could very well be the match of the year, you definitely don't want to miss this one!  We've got to take a quick break, when we come back, we'll see BlackJack Mulligan in action."

MATCH #3 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
BlackJack Mulligan defeats Brian Mackney after locking Mackney in the Claw for the submission.

Mulligan walks over and joins Layton on the set.

Layton: "BlackJack Mulligan, that was a very impressive victory.  On August 9 at Exhibition Stadium, you will defend the Midwest Title against Dino Bravo.  Last week, we heard comments from Bravo regarding that match.  If we could, I'd like to get your thoughts on that match as well."

Mulligan laughs.

Mulligan: "Dino Bravo is pathetic!  He honestly believes he go out to that ring and beat me?!?!  Dino Bravo, you're gonna need all the luck in the World on August 9 to even have a CHANCE with me.  Layton, this Midwest Title belongs to me, and I ain't about to let some punk take it from me!  Bravo, you better be ready, boy, because yer in for the whoopin' of yer life on August 9 at Exhibition Stadium!"

With that, Mulligan slams the mic back into Layton's chest, and walks off.

Layton: "Yet another big match signed for the huge event on August 9 at Exhbition Stadium, as BlackJack Mulligan defends the AWA Midwest Title against Dino Bravo.  When we come back from the break, we'll see our feature match-up, the Masked Assassins square off with Gino Brito and El Bracero in tag team action."

ARENA TAPE - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
The Masked Assassins defeat Gino Brito & El Bracero, from July 19 at Maple Leaf Gardens, after Assassin #1 KO’s Bracero with a headbutt from his “loaded” mask.

Layton: That does it for another week of Maple Leaf Wrestling.  Next week, we'll have another action-packed hour of AWA wrestling for you.  On that show, Dino Bravo will be action, as will United States Champion The Sheik, and the masked Mr. Wrestling.  The big feature match will see The BlackJacks in tag team action against the team of Billy Red Lyons and Edouard Carpentier.  All that and a whole lot more, next week on Maple Leaf Wrestling.  Until then, I'm Lord Athol Layton, saying so long and we'll see you at ringside."
