CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING FROM FLORIDA
TAPED AT:
TAMPA SPORTATORIUM
601 N. ALBANY
TAMPA, FLORIDA
TAPED: WEDNESDAY MORNING, AUGUST 1, 1977
BROADCAST: SATURDAY, AUGUST 4, 1977
SYNDICATED THROUGHOUT FLORIDA AND THE SOUTHEAST
COMMENTATORS: GORDON SOLIE
REFEREE: LEO GARIBALDI

Theme music is played and mat action is shown featuring;  Jack and Jerry Brisco, Dusty Rhodes, The Assassin, Missouri Mauler, Jim Brunzell, Eddie Graham, Steve Strong, The Manchurians, Sir Oliver Humperdink, The Spoiler, Steve Keirn, Mike Graham , and others.

The show begins with a film clip of the match for the Florida Heavyweight Title between Jack Brisco and Buddy Wolff at the Miami Beach Convention Hall. The lumberjack action around the ring centers on Spoiler, Jimmy Garvin, Jim Brunzell, and Bobby Eaton. A left hand from Eaton knocks Wolff silly, helping Jack Brisco win the Florida title.

The show returns to the studio, with Gordon referring to the Eaton punch as the shot heard around the wrestling world. He says Jack Brisco will join the show by VTR and Buddy Wolff will be here in the studio live.

Last week, The Manchurians challenged Steve Keirn and Mike Graham to a match. Sir Oliver Humperdink said he didn’t care if it was non-title or not. We, fans, it’s not. But, Gordon is sure the action will be hot, none the less.

In a match booked just be fore the show went on the air, as a results of fan voting, the challenger for the Florida TV Title this week will be…..Austin Idol. Because of the magnitude of this match, its position on the card has been switched from the first match to the main event.

If that isn’t enough, Bob Armstrong will be here to talk about his recent dealings with Jimmy Garvin. The new World Tag Team Champions, Jesse Ventura and Ken Patera, will have a taped interview.

Gordon says make a quick refrigerator run and get back for all the CWF action.

A film clip shows action from a match in Miami that featured Nelson Royal against Hercules Stevenson. Royal is pinned despite having his feet on the ropes. He is frustrated with the referee and himself.

Gordon remarks that even the greatest home run hitter of all time, Hank Aaron, went into slumps. The fluke losses seem to be piling up and Gordon wonders out loud if it is getting into Royal’s head.

NELSON ROYAL vs. MACHO MAN JOHN RINGER w/ HERCULES STEVENSON

The Great Bolo comes out for commentary for this match. Royal seems to be pushing the envelope between bending and breaking the rules in this match. Gordon wonders what Royal is thinking. Bolo questions if it is frustration or smartening up. Late in the match, Royal has Ringer in the corner, reigning down lefts and rights. Stevenson pulls out Royal’s feet and Ringer scores the leverage pin, with help from the ropes.

RINGER w/ STEVENSON (W) @ 4:58

Bolo leaves the ringside area and looks at Royal, points, and shakes his head. Royal stares a hole in the back of the masked manager.

A local promo airs for the matches at the West Palm Beach Auditorium on Aug 5th. Bell time is 7 PM.

A film clip is shown of Buddy Wolff and some of the action he has been in since becoming the Florida Heavyweight champion.

Gordon states that Buddy Wolff is so angry that his comments about the title change were pre-recorded before the crowd came into the Tampa Sportatorium today. The promoters did not want to have to worry about the language Wolff might have used. That interview will be played after this match.

BUDDY WOLFF W/ SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK vs. DENNIS HALL

Wolff storms the ring and totally obliterates Hall. The finisher comes when Wolff lands a power slam and follows it up with a Boston Crab. Hall submits.

WOLFF w/ HUMPERDINK (W) @ 2:01

The show goes to an interview taped before the crowd got into the Sportatorium.

Wolff says it took a tag team, Jack Brisco, and a blind, senile referee to take his title. He has a lot of business to take of. First and foremost, he has return matches with Brisco. Now, he also owes Brunzell and Eaton payback for their part in his losing the title.

Wolff calls Hercules Stevenson into the camera shot. Wolff says that he has heard Hercules and Macho Man have a tag match with Brunzell and Eaton at the Back-to- School Spectacular on August 17th in Orlando. He pleads with Stevenson to let it be a six man to allow him to punish Eaton and Brunzell. Gordon reminds Wolff that Stevenson is not the matchmaker, but he can go there to make his plea. Wolff tells Gordon to count on it.

Gordon says Bob Armstrong is next.

The show returns to film of Bob Armstrong being hit by a belt buckle in Miami and a belt clothesline in Tampa. Both moves allowed Garvin a chance to pin Armstrong.

Gordon says Bob Armstrong told him he has kids at home that need a whippin’ some times but he has never used a belt like this. He has an answer for Jimmy Garvin.

BOB ARMSTRONG vs. JACK ARMSTRONG

“The Battle of the Armstrongs” takes a back seat in this match. The finish is a leg whip that sends Jack into the turnbuckle. Bob locks on the spinning toe hold for the submission.

BOB ARMSTRONG (W) @ 4:29

Bob goes behind the interview desk curtain and comes back with a long, leather strap.

He tells Gordon that his Dad used to spank him every Saturday night just because he may have missed something during the week. But, only his Daddy used a belt on him. Garvin will feel an old-fashioned, Georgia butt whipping---Armstrong style on August 17th.

Gordon says The Manchurians are biting at the bit to get at the tag champions. They are next.

A promo airs for the matches at the Lakeland Civic Center on Aug. 8th. Bell time is 7 PM.

A VTR shows Jack Brisco sitting in front of lockers in a dressing room, with the Florida Heavyweight Title draped over his shoulder. He says that so many of Brisco’s chances were lost due to outside interference that Wolff has nothing to complain about. He was beat in the middle of the ring. Brisco says he is ready to take on all comers.

Gordon says Sir Oliver Humperdink was not satisfied with the results last week in The Manchurians-Keirn/ Graham rivalry. It continues today.

THE MANCHURIANS w/ SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK vs. STEVE KEIRN/ MIKE GRAHAM

This non-title match is back and forth, with Keirn being hurt when he hits the mat after an attempted top rope elbow.  Graham is frustrated as Keirn has his neck worked on. Keirn is being set up for the 3M. Keirn moves at the last second.

Graham is tagged in and hits a flying body press on Tio. Keirn locks the sleeper on Tapu. The bell rings when Garibaldi counts three.

KEIRN/ GRAHAM (W) @ 6:29

Keirn and Graham are hit from behind by Tio and Humperdink. The Manchurians hit double brain busters on the Florida tag champs. Humperdink takes yellow paint from under the ring. The Manchurians paint yellow streaks down the back of Keirn and Graham. Security clears the ring. The camera fades to black.

A local promo airs for the card at the Bayfront Center in St. Petersburg on the10th. Bell time is 7 PM.

A VTR airs showing Jesse Ventura and Ken Patera in front of an NWA logo in a studio. Ventura says they are going all over the world to defend these titles in the biggest arenas. Now, the NWA says that they have to defend them in that Mickey Mouse town of Orlando. Patera says that whatever team they face will realize that their trip to Fantasyland is going to be a bad roller coaster ride.

Gordon says that Keirn and Graham were so mad that the promoters had them escorted from the building. The will have a chance to talk next week.

FLORIDA TV TITLE MATCH
THE ASSASSIN w/ THE GREAT BOLO vs. AUSTIN IDOL

The Assassin is waiting in the ring as Idol comes out. He is blind sided by a chair shot from Buddy Colt. Garibaldi looks at the cut that has been opened up on Idol’s forehead.
He says that Idol cannot continue. Idol pleads to wrestle because he is a champion. Garibaldi relents.

The Assassin beats Idol from pillar to post until Dusty Rhodes comes and start to wail on the Florida TV champ. Garibaldi rules that it is a NO-CONTEST.

Very nice recap of the Florida Title change to start off the show!

Is Nelson Royal contemplating going over to the dark side? This could be good!

I like this angry Buddy Wolff! Very intense!

If Stevenson and Ringer agree to the six-man, wonder who will partner with Eaton and Brunzell?

Loved the Battle of the Armstrongs!

Brisco is a true fighting champion!

The Manchurians are getting ever so close to those titles!

Great match with Assassin and Idol! Nice save by Dusty!

Another great program!
