CWF ST. PETE ARENA SHOW 8/10/77
Aug 10th, 2007, 7:38pm

CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING FROM FLORIDA
BAYFRONT CENTER
ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA
AUGUST 10, 1977 7 PM
REFEREE: PEDRO GODOY

Promoted by: CWF
Sanctioned by: NWA

--National anthem

Match 1-

THE EXECUTIONER defeats CHIN LEE with a flying forearm.

Time: 14:20

Match 2-

THE MISSOURI MAULER/ STEVE STRONG defeat BOBBY EATON/ JIM BRUNZELL.

This match is even until the end when Eaton and Brunzell are pressing an advantage. Brunzell and Strong are fighting outside. Eaton has Mauler in a fisherman’s suplex. Sir Oliver Humperdink comes out and gets Godoy’s attention. Buddy Wolff comes out and trips Eaton. Mauler comes down on Eaton and pins him.

Time: 20:00

Match 3-

BOB ARMSTRONG defeats GORGEOUS JIMMY GARVIN w/ THE GREAT BOLO.

Armstrong comes out with his head still bandaged from the injuries he suffered in Lakeland. He grabs the mike and tells the crowd that he was ambushed in the dressing room by Bolo and Garvin. Bolo says that Armstrong probably cried like that when his Daddy whipped him. Armstrong starts slugging as the bell rings.

The adrenalin that Armstrong has gives him an early advantage. Armstrong goes to work on the leg. Bolo trips Armstrong on a criss cross and Garvin hits a corkscrew elbow. Garvin drives several knees into the shoulders and neck of Armstrong. Cheap shots by Bolo help the heels’ cause.

The end comes when Garvin has Armstrong trapped on the arena floor. A head butt from Bolo accidentally hits Godoy. Garvin pulls a belt buckle from his boots. Armstrong kicks Bolo low and grabs the buckle from Garvin. He hits Garvin with it and throws the object under the ring. Armstrong rolls Garvin into the ring and pins him with a crucifix.

Time: 25:33

Match 4-

THE MANCHURIANS w/ SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK wrestle STEVE KEIRN/ MIKE GRAHAM to a DOUBLE DQ.

The champions come out first in a different move. They charge up the aisle and go after the men who painted them with yellow paint on TV. In the melee, Humperdink is thrown into a row of chairs. The injured manager is taken to the back by security.

When the match finally gets into the ring, The Manchurians do not miss a beat, even without their manager. Tio and Tapu isolate Graham in their corner, concentrating on his right arm. Tapu applies a Fujiwara arm bar and it takes everything Graham has to reach the ropes.

Later, when Keirn is in, Tapu tries for a backwards flying elbow. Keirn ducks and Tapu hits the mat hard. Keirn works on Tapu’s ribs. He tags Graham, who goes up top and tries a top rope splash. Tapu moves and Graham hits hard. All four men come in at this point and the rule book is thrown out. Godoy has no choice but to disqualify both teams.

Time: 28:29

Match 5-

THE ASSASSIN/ BUDDY WOLFF/ THE SPOILER w/ THE GREAT BOLO defeats DUSTY RHODES/ AUSTIN IDOL/ ANTONIO INOKI by COUNT OUT

The heels come to the ring first. Rhodes and Idol come to the ring and introduce Inoki to the crowd. Godoy is caught in the middle of a corner splash and hurts his shoulder. The match continues without a referee, as security carries Godoy to the back. Nelson Royal comes out in street clothes to referee.

The faces trap Assassin in their corner. As Dusty is clubberin’ away, Royal is making the count. He holds Dusty’s arm after the four count. Assassin rakes at Dusty’s eyes and drags him to his corner. Wolff and Spoiler work on the Dream’s back.

Rhodes manages to get back to his corner and tags in Idol. Idol kicks Spoiler in the stomach and applies a butterfly suplex. Idol goes in for the cover and Royal makes the count. Spoiler barely kicks out. Idol screams at Royal for what he believes was too deliberate a count.

Late in the match, Inoki and Wolff are worn down when Inoki hits an ensiguri kick out of nowhere. The momentum carries both wrestlers out to the floor. Rhodes and Idol are fighting with Spoiler and The Assassin elsewhere in the ring. Royal makes the count as both wrestlers are close to ten. Wolff clearly beats the ten count but Inoki is very close. Royal says Inoki did not make it. Rhodes argues with Royal as the heels leave the ring.

Man, Inoki sure did seem out of place in that main event!  Smiley

That was an awesome match, though, well worth the price of admission.

I know I've said it before, but I really like the team of Eaton and Brunzell, I wouldn't mind seeing them, down the road, get a run with the NWA Tag Team Titles.  Their match against the Mauler and Strong would've been a fun match.

Look big daddy, it's regular daddy.

El Mariachi: You want me to shoot the cook?
Agent Sands: No. I'll shoot the cook. My car's parked out back anyway.
