The opening plays, accompanied by Herb Alpert’s A Bandita.  We see short clips of some of the stars that have appeared on Maple Leaf Wrestling over the years, like Whipper Billy Watson, Gene Kiniski, Bruno Sammartino, Johnny Valentine, Jack Brisco and many more.

We then join Lord Athol Layton standing behind a podium with the Maple Leaf Wrestling logo on it, behind him, the Maple Leaf Wrestling logo and a big red and green Maple Leaf.

Layton: "Cheery-O everyone.  Welcome to Maple Leaf Wrestling.  I'm Lord Athol Layton.  Whether you're on the East coast, the West coast, or anywhere in between, we thank you for inviting us into your homes each and every week.  We have a great show in store for you today.  Rufus R. Jones and Greg Valentine will both be in singles action, and in our feature bout, Dino Bravo teams up with a man who calls himself the Masked Canadian, to face the Assassins in tag team action.

This past Thursday night, we were at Exhibition Stadium, and the main event on that show featured one of the most brutal, bloody matches I've ever seen.  The Sheik put the U.S. Title on the line in a Title vs Title match against this man, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, Nick Bockwinkel."

The camera pans out, and Bockwinkel is standing with Layton.  He's got the World Title belt over his shoulder, and his head heavily bandaged.

Layton: "Mr. Bockwinkel, thank you for joining us today.  Thursday night, you were involved in a war, against the current United States Champion The Sheik.  The match was a title vs title affair, but due to a Disqualification, there was no title change.  If we could, let's take a look back at the final moments of that match."

...After several minutes, The Sheik produces a foreign object...it looks to be a pencil!  The United States Champion starts jabbing Bockwinkel in the head with this object, over and over again!  A smile comes onto the face of the Sheik, he really seems to be enjoying himself here.  Blood starts to show on the forehead of the World Heavyweight Champion, and a moment later, his entire face has become a crimson mask.  He keeps it out of the referee's view, continuing to jab Bockwinkel in the head with the object.

Bockwinkel fights back though, he wipes the blood from his eyes, and continues to fight the U.S. Champion.  At one point, Bockwinkel gets the weapon from The Sheik, and starts jabbing the Noble One with it!  Late in the match, Bockwinkel has taken control of the match, and begins to work on the knee of the U.S. Champion.  Out of desperation, The Sheik lets fly with a FIREBALL!!!

The referee immediately calls for the bell, disqualifying the United States Champion!  Bockwinkel wins the match, by DQ, but neither title changes hands.

Bockwinkel: "Week after week, Eddie Creatchman came out here and went on about how big and bad the Sheik is.  He may be big and bad, but as you can see, I'm still the World Heavyweight Champion.  I took the very worst the Sheik could dish out, and I walked out of Exhibition Stadium, still Heavyweight Champion of the World."

Layton: "That's true, but it could be said that if it wasn't for The Sheik getting disqualified, things could have ended very, very differently."

Bockwinkel: "Nevermind that Layton, that's not important now.  The bottom line is, I'm still the World Heavyweight Champion.  That's in the past, I'm out here to talk about something else...the Crusader.  Being the fighting Champion that I am, and the stand-up individual that I am, I have agreed to give the Crusader one final shot at this belt on August 30 at Maple Leaf Gardens.  This time, the match will have NO time limit.  Now I know what the Crusader is thinking, he thinks this is going to help him, but in reality, all it's going to do is ensure that there will be no excuses from The Crusader after I pin him, 1 2 3, right in the middle of the ring!"

"On August 30th, Layton, I'm going to prove that I am the better man, and I'm going to prove that the Crusader, well, he isn't even in my league!"

Layton: "Fans, that's going to be a classic.  There will be no time limit on August 30th when The Crusader challenges Nick Bockwinkel for the Heavyweight Championship of the World.  Right now, we've got to take a quick break, but when we come back, we'll see Rufus R. Jones in action."

MATCH #1 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
Rufus R. Jones
defeats Golden Boy Apollo after connecting with a series of headbutts, leading to the pinfall.

After the match, George Cannon and the Assassins walk out and join Layton on the set.

Layton: "George, these two men have been very impressive since they've come to Maple Leaf Wrestling.  They beat a very formidable team on Thursday night, in Bulldog Brower and Billy Red Cloud, but they've got a tough match ahead of them right here today when they square off with Dino Bravo and the Masked Canadian."

Cannon: "Layton, there isn't a team in this territory that can match the Assassins!  These men right here are the epitome of tag team wrestling, and they will prove that, each and every time they climb into the ring.  Dino Bravo and that masked Canadian just don't measure up to these men, they will be nothing more than a stepping stone for these men, on their way to the top of the AWA!"

Layton: "Fans, that match will be coming up a little later on, right now we've got to take another quick commercial break."

Layton: "We're back on Maple Leaf Wrestling, and ready for more action.  Edouard Carpentier is in the ring, and here comes his opponent, Greg Valentine.  Let's go up to the ring and Norm Kimber for that match."

MATCH #2 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
Greg Valentine
defeats Edouard Carpentier after locking Carpentier in the Figure Four Leglock for the victory.

Layton: "When we come back, we'll talk with Greg Valentine."

After the break, Greg Valentine walks out and joins Layton on the set.

Layton: "Mr. Valentine, on Thursday night, you teamed up with Baron Von Raschke in a match against Canadian Champion The Crusader and the man that you tried to cripple recently, Rufus R. Jones.  We have some footage of that match, let's go to the tape."

...The Crusader has Greg Valentine down on the mat, working him over.  In the corner, Rufus R. Jones is calling for the Crusader to tag him in, and the masked man is happy to oblige!  Rufus comes in...and Valentine immediately bails out of the ring!  Rufus goes out after him, chasing Valentine around the ring!

Back inside, Valentine goes to tag Von Raschke in, but he doesn't fare any better, Rufus staggers him with a series of headbutts.  Von Raschke goes back to his corner...but Valentine refuses to tag back in!  The Crusader comes in and goes to town on Von Raschke.  Von Raschke turns things around with a low blow, then goes to work on the Canadian Champion.

A few minutes later, The Crusader tags Rufus back in, but Von Raschke attacks him, and pounds him into the mat.  Look at this, NOW Valentine wants to come back in.  Von Raschke tags him, and Valentine comes back in and goes at Rufus...but Jones was playing possum!  He grabs ahold of Valentine and proceeds to throw him around the ring like a ragdoll...

Layton: "It seems that you spent most of the match just trying to stay AWAY from Rufus R. Jones!"

Valentine isn't happy, his face goes red, and he grabs the mic from Layton.

Valentine: "Somebody's tampered with that tape, they're trying to make me look bad!"

Layton: "I'd say you did a fine job of that yourself!"

Valentine glares at Layton, then snatches the mic again.

Valentine: "I'll see that someone gets fired for this, Layton!  That film was tampered with or something, because that's not what happened.  I am NOT afraid of Rufus R. Jones!  To prove that, I'm out here to tell you that I'll wrestle him any time, any place!"

Rufus walks out!

Valentine: "Wait a minute, get that gorilla out of here!  This is my interview, you get outta here"

Rufus: "Did I hear you right?  You said anytime, any place?"

Valentine: "That's right, boy...any time, any place!"

Rufus produces a piece of paper.

Rufus: "Well, it's your lucky day, I've got a contract here, for a match on August 30 at Maple Leaf Gardens."

Valentine snatches the contract, and signs it, shoving it back into Rufus' chest.  Rufus smiles, then starts laughing.

Valentine: "What's so funny?  You thought what I did to you back in June was bad?  That ain't NOTHING compared to what I'm going to do on the 30th!"

Rufus: "Just to ensure that you don't try to run away, like you did on Thursday, I had a stipulation added to the match...according to this contract, that you just signed, the match will be a LUMBERJACK MATCH!"

Rufus smiles, and walks off.

Valentine is LIVID, he starts yelling at Rufus and pacing around the broadcast area.

Layton: "How about that fans!  Greg Valentine just signed a contract to wrestle Rufus R. Jones in a Lumberjack match on August 30th at Maple Leaf Gardens.  As you can see, Valentine obviously isn't too happy about it.  Right now, we've got to take a quick break, when we come back, it's time for our feature bout, Dino Bravo and the Masked Canadian take on the Assassins."

MATCH #3 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
The Assassins
defeat Dino Bravo & The Masked Canadian.
Dino had Assassin #2 pinned, but Cannon distracted the referee, allowing Assassin #1 to come off the top rope, with a kneedrop to the back of Bravo’s head.  Assassin #1 then rolls them over, with Assassin #2 now on top.  When the referee turns around, he counts the pinfall and awards the match to the Assassins!

Layton: "It looks like The Assassins have stolen a victory from Dino Bravo and The Masked Canadian.  We've got to take our final commercial break, but when we come back, I'll try to get a word with Dino Bravo and the Canadian regarding what just transpired."

After the break, Bravo and the Canadian are with Layton on the set.  Bravo’s still groggy, but he’s not happy about what went down.

Bravo: "Lord, I want to issue a challenge, right here and now, to the Assassins for a rematch on next week's show!"

George Cannon comes back out.

Cannon: "You punks are just sore losers, but if you want another whoopin' next week, well that's fine with me."

Cannon walks off, and the Masked Canadian helps Bravo from the set.

Layton: "That does it for another week of Maple Leaf Wrestling.  Next week, we'll have another action-packed hour of AWA wrestling for you.  On that show, Billy Red Lyons and Edouard Carpentier will be in tag team action, Greg Valentine will be in action as well.  As we just heard, the feature match will see a rematch from today's show, Dino Bravo and the masked Canadian will get another match with the Assassins.  All that and a whole lot more, next week on Maple Leaf Wrestling.  Until then, I'm Lord Athol Layton, saying so long and we'll see you at ringside."

Well maybe The Masked Canadian can be trusted.

Valentine gets an impressive win over Carpentier. Rufus won't be as easy, though.

The Bock-Crusader match will be great.

Great Toronto action.
