AWA International Wrestling TV 8/4/77

Taped: Wednesday August 1, 1977
Broadcast Date: Saturday August 4, 1977

All matches sanctioned by the American Wrestling Association.
Referees for today's program: Andre Roy and Adrian Desbois

- In a match not filmed for television, Karl Von Brauner (w/Kurt Von Brauner) defeated Daniel Martel after Kurt Von Brauner hit Martel with a clothesline from behind when referee Adrian Desbois was distracted by Karl.

TV INTRO

Jack Curran and Jack Britton welcome the fans to another great program of International Wrestling.

Right away they note that they were to interview Mad Dog Lefebvre at this time but the Mad Dog has yet to make it to the TV studio, but they hope to interview him when he does arrive!

As soon as the Major gets word that Lefebvre isn’t in the building, he sticks his cowardly head out of the curtains and heads towards the interview area with the Hangman & Eric the Red by his side. The Major proceeds to mention that Lefebvre is too scared to show his face with the Major & the army around. Curran mentions that on the contrary, Lefebvre has challenged any member of the Major’s army to a match at the Forum this Monday night!

Duke laughs it off and says the Hangman would be glad to put away Lefebvre once & for all on the 6th.

The Major talks about Paul LeDuc & Roddy Piper defending their belts against the Rougeau’s in singles bouts this Monday night as well. He says that the 6th will be a night to remember for his army. LeDuc & Piper will eliminate the Rougeau’s, the Hangman will retire The Hangman and whoever is dumb enough to meet Eric the Red will also be eliminated from International Wrestling.

Duke then talks about Paul LeDuc meeting Jacques Jr. here today on TV in the feature bout. He says Jr. will be lucky if he even makes it to the Forum to meet Roddy on the 6th.

The Major laughs and walks his men out of the area, blowing the whistle to get Eric the Red to follow along.

Curran shakes his head in disgust wishing Lefebvre had showed up while Duke was out here.

Bout 1: The Mercenaries (Frenchie Martin & Mad Dog Martel) defeated Fred Peloquin & UFO #1 in 3:45 when Martin pinned Peloquin after a double shoulder breaker.

The Mercenaries are interviewed after the contest and Frenchie says the Mercenaries are all warmed up and ready to go in the big Chain Match they have against the International Tag Team Champions, the Von Brauner’s, at the Forum.

Jack Britton mentions Kurt & Karl Von Brauner are no slouches, and Mad Dog Martel says neither are the Mercenaries. Martel plans to beat the German’s bloody and ship them back to their home land in a wooden crate!

Up next we have a man making his Television Debut here in International Wrestling, he is the Masked Mr. Pro.

Bout 2: Mr. Pro defeated UFO #2 in 4:00 after a pair of European uppercuts and a Kiwi roll. After the bout UFO #1 ran in and attempted to attack Mr. Pro but Rick McGraw ran out to even the odds and send the UFO team packing.

Rick McGraw then raised the hand of Mr. Pro, who had a successful Television debut!

It’s interview time ladies and gents. But before we bring out the interviewee let’s go over the

Montreal Forum Card for this Monday Night, August the 6th!

* Quebec Heavyweight Champion Paul LeDuc vs. Raymond Rougeau
Curran: Rougeau has prepared long & hard for this rematch, I think it will be Raymond’s night.
Britton: Anything’s possible, but I simply think no matter how much Rougeau trains and prepares, LeDuc is just too big and too strong for him to beat.

* AWA World Jr. Heavyweight Champion Roddy Piper vs. Jacques Rougeau Jr.
Curran: Jacques says he’s bringing his A game and I wonder if that’s enough to beat the World Heavyweight Champion?
Britton: Well Jacques can bring his A PLUS game here and I don’t know that it would do him any good. Roddy has the experience as well as Major Duke in his corner for this one.

* International Tag Team Champions The Von Brauner’s vs. The Mercenaries (CHAIN MATCH!)
Curran: Make no bones about it, This one is going to be as wild and bloody as they come.
Britton: The only way to win this one is by pin or submission, I don’t see any of these guys giving up, or staying down, I see some hospital visits in the future for all 4 of these guys.

* GRUDGE MATCH: Mad Dog Lefebvre vs. The Hangman
Curran: I never though I’d see the day but Mad Dog Lefebvre has issues the challenge to Major Duke George and his entire army. Lefebvre plans to start with the Hangman!
Britton: I think the Mad Dog bit off a little more than he can chew. He better hope his bite is worse than his bark.

* Chief War Cloud & Billy Two Rivers vs. “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe & “Dynamite” Jack Evans
Curran: Sharpe & Evans love to run their mouth, lets see what they can do in the ring together as a cohesive unit.
Britton: I think Evans & Sharpe have proven themselves in singles competition, not they will do the same in tag team wrestling. War Cloud & Two Rivers are a great team but they don’t have what it takes to beat a team like Pretty Boy & Dynamite.

* Eric the Red vs. Daniel Martel
Curran: Young Daniel returned with quite a winning streak but Eric the Red is undefeated since debuting here in Quebec. I’m not quite sure young Daniel can stop Eric the Red.
Britton: Well you are absolutely right on that one Curran. Martel is young and he’s fast, but Eric the Red is just too massive and powerful for the younger Martel. As long as the Major controls the whistle, he also controls Eric, and that doesn’t sound good for Daniel Martel.

* Mr. Pro & Rick McGraw vs. The UFO’s
Curran: This bout was just added after what transpired before the break. It will be interested to see Mr. Pro teaming with McGraw for this bout against an established team like the UFO’s.
Britton: It’s no secret the UFO’s don’t have the best win/loss record in Montreal, but they have been together a bit longer and may pull out an upset here with McGraw & Pro wrestling out of their usual singles format.

And after all that fans, let’s bring out the AWA World Jr. Heavyweight Champion…Roddy Piper! Roddy comes out with manager Duke George by his side. Piper jaw jacks with the fans and Jack Curran getting in some verbal jabs where he can. Roddy again this week bad mouth’s the Rougeau family. He says Jacques Sr. is so old he owns an autographed copy of the bible.

Piper mentions how Paul LeDuc will squash Raymond at the Forum.

And that brings him to JUUUUUNIOR. Jacques JUUUUNIOR. Roddy plans to dismantle the youngster on Monday and embarrass him in front of his home town fans, his brother Raymond and his old man, Senior.

Roddy rants a little more before Curran sends us to commercials.

As we fade back “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe joins the commentary area for the next match up. Sharpe spends most of the bout putting the bad mouth to Chief War Eagle & Billy Two Rivers, the duo that Sharpe & Evans will be facing at the Forum.

Bout 3: “Dynamite” Jack Evans defeated Greg Peterson in 4:30 with the gordbuster. This was a nice little TV bout.

Curran interviews both Evans & Sharpe quickly about facing the Indian team this Monday. Evans says they have had no issues in beating the Indians in singles matches, they don’t feel tag team matches will be any different. Sharpe mentions with this being a tag team contest, they plan to beat Two Rivers & War Eagle, twice as hard!

Before commercial Curran mentions it’s unfortunate Mad Dog Lefebvre has yet to show up for TV.

Back from break

Bout 4: Quebec Heavyweight Champion Paul LeDuc (w/Major Duke George) vs. Jacques Rougeau Jr.
Jacques enters the ring for this non-title bout and almost instantaneously Roddy Piper & The Hangman make their way to ringside and get up on opposite sides of the ring apron. Jacques seems a little worried and backs himself into a corner. This match never gets started as LeDuc, Piper & Hangman all begin to pound on young Jacques!

Jacques Jr. takes a pounding until his brother RAYMOND Rougeau makes the save! Raymond’s in to attempt to even the odd’s a little and seems to have things in hand, when Major Duke George blows the whistle which brings ERIC THE RED to the ring. Eric the Red adds to melee making it 4 on 2, with the entire Army out pounding on the Rougeau Brothers!

The Rougeau’s look down and out when who emerges from the locker room but MAD DOG LEFEBVRE. The Mad Dog has arrived and he comes out sporting a block of wood. Lefebvre hits the ring like a wild man and begins to wail on Duke’s Army. The Major runs for cover while Lefebvre cracks the board over the Hangman & Paul LeDuc, Roddy Piper also bails from the ring! Lefebvre cracks Eric the Red with the block of wood but Eric doesn’t budge! The two stare each other down! The Major blows his whistle and the Army pulls Eric from the ring. Duke did not want Eric the Red to come to blows with the Mad Dog, possibly for fear that Lefebvre would take out the Major’s newest find?

The studio audience has gone berserk! Mad Dog Lefebvre is here, and he has come to the aid of the Rougeau Brothers!

Lefebvre comes over to Curran at the announcer’s area.

Lefebvre: Talk is cheap Duke George, on Monday at the Forum, I begin my quest to destroy your army. I will start with the Hangman, and end with you!

Curran is shocked at what has just transpired and is speechless, Britton takes us to break.

Back from out final break and Curran & Britton are hyping the big Forum card. They make mention of what just went down between the Rougeau’s, The Major’s army &…..MAD DOG LEFEBVRE!

Raymond & Jacques Jr. are now out at ringside talking about what went down. Raymond thanks Mad Dog Lefebvre for his help in the melee that just passed. Ray said he never thought he’d see the day the Mad Dog would be on the side of the Rougeau’s but he;s certainly glad it happened.

Jacques Jr. makes some comments towards Roddy Piper and his upcoming World Jr. Heavyweight Title match.

Raymond ends the show by talking about his Quebec Heavyweight Title match against LeDuc this Monday night. Raymond promises he will not let the fans or his family down. Raymond says that in a few days the Quebec Heavyweight Title will be back where it belongs.

Curran: Fans next week we will have the fall out from the Forum event this Monday night and Mad Dog Lefebvre will be back in the ring to defend his Television Title.

All of that plus much more next week on AWA International Wrestling!

I'm still shocked that the Major fired Lefebvre, I thought for sure it was going to be the Hangman.  All I know is, I wouldn't want to be in Hangman's shoes on the 6th!

Eric the Red is going to make a name for himself here, I wouldn't be surprised to see him as Quebec Champion in the near future.

Jacques Rougeau, Jr. is certainly doing well for himself, for a rookie.  I have a feeling we'll be seeing him as a big name in Quebec in the next few years!

El Mariachi: You want me to shoot the cook?
Agent Sands: No. I'll shoot the cook. My car's parked out back anyway.

Evans and Sharpe look to be a great team here.

Lefebvre will take out the Major's army one by one.

Jauques, Jr. May not have enough now to take out Piper on the 6th but it will be great to see him try.

Raymond is on his way to the title.

The Mercenaries and the Von Brauners will be a blood fest.

Great show.
