AWA-CWA Wrestling Live from the Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, TN Bell time 8/13/77 is 7:30 pm and matches are recorded for future broadcast 1) “Mr. Ebony” Tom Jones and George Welles defeat the Medics after Welles drills Medic #1 with a big shoulder tackle and Jones locks on a swinging full nelson to secure the submission victory. 2) Mighty Ursa defeats Big Bill Howard with a bear hug. It is obvious that the muscular Ursa has no clue his own strength as he manhandles Howard. 3) The Spider defeats Ken Dillenger by disqualification when Dutch Mantel attacks the Miser, who is carrying the Dutchman’s bullwhip at ringside. This attack pulls the Spider out of the ring to wail of Mantel, but their brawl rolls back into the ring and sees the bell tolled to end the match. The Miser retreats with Mantel’s shoo baby still in hand with the Spider running interference, only to be chased out by Dutch who will not rest until he gets he whip back. 4) Bobby Jaggers and Tito Montez defeat Butch Malone and “Professor” Bill Ash in an exciting tag team contest that sees Montez go tooth and nail at fellow junior heavyweight Ash. In the end, Jaggers is able to deliver a hangman’s neck breaker to Malone and get the 1-2-3. Intermission: It is announced that after Saturday’s Championship Wrestling telecast, AWA North American Championship Wrestling has sanctioned a championship contest for tonight between the North American Tag team Champions, John Tolos and Roger Kirby, and the BBC duo of Jim Breaks and Marc Rocco. It will take place as a semi-main event. 5) Sugar Bear Harris defeats Bobby Jones in a body slam match to continue adding to the prize put forward by Tojo Yamamoto. Jones looked to have injured his back when he first tried to scoop the massive Harris and this left a huge opening for the Sugar Bear to pound until he finally splashed Jones in the corner and then slammed him in the center of the ring to get the 1-2-3. 6) Kelly Kiniski defeats Pat Roach by disqualification when both Black Angus Campbell and the Scottish Giant assault Kiniski as he is about to deliver his Canadian back breaker to Roach. The 3 on 1 mugging continues until Tommy Gilbert and Jackie Fargo rush from the back with a crow bar and a baseball bat in their respective hands. Security ushers the Brits not only to the back but out of the arena all together medical personnel check on Kelly Kiniski. 7) “Wildfire” Tommy Rich defeats the fire tossing Mephisto with a Thesz press before locking on a spinning toehold for the submission victory. Tommy is out as a single for the first time in a long time as Ricky Fields is still recovering from last week’s title loss. 8) The BBC duo of Jim Breaks and Marc Rocco defeat John Tolos and Roger Kirby to become the new NACW North American Tag Team Champions in an amazing 38-minute contest. It appeared early on that Kirby and Tolos were going to keep their titles as they were pounding on the smaller Englishmen. Even the Memphis crowd rooted on Kirby and Tolos as they delivered a beating to the Brits, but interference by Lord Raven turned the tide as he through powder into the eyes of John Tolos as he was grinding a knuckle into the temple of Rocco. Lord Raven almost cost his men the gold when he attempted to throw powder again as he was pointing out that roger Kirby was going for the piledriver, a move illegal across the CWA, but he was stopped by Tolos with the powder flying into the air. Referee Tommy Morton orders Lord Raven from ringside and the match goes on. John and roger are able to isolate Jim Breaks in their corner and work him over, but a desperation rake of the eyes on Tolos allows Jim to make a tag and Rocco stars snapping off suplexes left and right. Finally, Marc goes up top and delivers a big diving headbutt to John. Kirby tries to make the save, but Breaks intercepts him as the count goes 1-2-3, ushering in new champions! 9) Jerry “the King” Lawler defeats Ron Bass by disqualification in a hotly contested battle for the Southern Heavyweight Championship. Both Lawler and Bass can feel the energy created by the previous contest and try to top it, but early on Bass knows he can’t keep up with the King. Still, twice during the match Ron is in position to try and put Lawler away with the gord buster, but the King blocks it and finally, when Jerry reverses a third try at the gord buster into a vertical suplex of his own, Bass rolls to the coliseum floor. When Jerry goes out after him, the honorable Yamamoto san hits Lawler in the head with the Southern title belt. The referee immediately calls for the bell and Bass survives with his title.
