Knoxville Knockout: Clash XV
Aug 19th, 2007, 4:25pm

Just started going through the set of Clashes I picked up at Fanfest. Thought I'd get your thoughts on this one...

Jason Hervey, Spindarella, and a troll midget accompaning Oz to the ring.

Fabulous.

Bobby Eaton's depush still boggles my mind. He chases the TV title for months, wins it, gets this big title shot against Flair, then loses the TV title to a rookie and slowly moves back down the ranks.

Hell, at this time Eaton was ranked higher than Sting if you can believe it...

Clash of the Chamions XV "Knoxville Knockout" - Knoxville, TN - Civic Auditorium - June 12, 1991 (5,000)

Live on TBS - featured an opening introduction on the entrance ramp by Missy Hyatt & Paul E. Badd; featured Tony Schiavone conducting an in-ring segment with PN News as well as Peppa & Spindarella from Salt 'n' Peppa, with Johnny B. Badd & Teddy Long interrupting; after Badd called News "a big ugly bear," News shoved him away, with Badd & Long then leaving ringside; included a 'Coming Attractions' segment focusing on the Diamond Studd; featured Dangerously in a Great American Bash report in which he detailed the summer tour, mentioned the upcoming pay-per-view, and showed highlights of the previous year's event; included Ross conducting a ringside interview with a young fan by the name of Ben who won a Sting lookalike contest; moments later, Sting came out to congratulate Ben and lifted him on his shoulder, with Nikita Koloff then appearing, hitting the Russian Sickle while using his chain, and stomping Sting at ringside; moments later, Koloff turned his attention to the fan, with the fan's mother then climbing over the railing to protect her son; featured a 'Coming Attractions' segment focusing on Steve Austin, during which Austin can already be seen wearing the WCW TV title; included a 'Coming Attractions' segment focusing on Blackblood; featured Schiavone conducting an in-ring itnerview with Terrence Taylor, Alexandra York, Mr. Hughes, and Richard Morton; moments later, Robert Gibson appeared and asked what Morton was doing, with Morton then punching Gibson in the face and hitting a piledriver until Dustin Rhodes made the save:

My opinion of the show that is that the show was overbooked with too many matches. A lot of the matches (most, if not all) were terribly rushed. Flair vs Eaton was a good match, but they did 3 falls in like 14 minutes and fell below expectations because of that. BTW Graham, I seem to remember that Eaton's shoulders were counted down in the figure four, and that he didn't submit. The best match on the card was the Steiners vs Hase and Chono. Luger vs Muta was only given 3 minutes, which was ridiculous for a match of that calibre, with so much at stake. Sting vs Nikita was one of the few matches that was given ample time, but it wasn't anything special. Morton turning Gibson was also a very rushed angle.

Flair vs. Beautiful Bobby was a great, classic 2 of 3 falls match.  Eaton taking the first fall really added to the match drama.

Nikita Koloff vs. Sting was a very good feud.  They seemed to work well together and there was a lot of heat generated there and the crowd really got into it.

Great Muta vs. Lex Luger was a good match.

This card was pretty useless save for the main event. Why is it when stiff style wrestlers who perform regularly in Japan, come to America and try the same style, it never seem to work out as well? It's like the try less for the American fans.
