CWF LIVE TV IN FORT LAUDERDALE 8/19/77
Aug 19th, 2007, 6:48pm

CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING FROM FLORIDA
LIVE BROADCAST FROM:
FORT LAUDERDALE WAR AUDITORIUM
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA
LIVE BROADCAST: AUGUST 19, 1977 8 PM
SYNDICATED THROUGHOUT THE SOUTHEAST
COMMENTATOR: GORDON SOLIE

Theme music is played and arena match is shown.

Gordon Solie is shown at the bell table at ringside. He tells the fans at ringside that they have a once-in-a-lifetime treat in store for them tonight as the TV show is being broadcast live. Gordon informs both audiences that the new number one contender for the Southern Title, due to his actions this past Friday night in Orlando, is Steve Strong. He will get his chance tonight as an enraged Austin Idol will wrestle him in our main event.

Gordon says that, as result of a pin fall win last night in Orlando, The Manchurians are the new Florida Tag Team Champions. The original plan was to have Mike Graham and Steve Keirn get a return match tonight. However, due to the back injury suffered in that title loss, Mike Graham is not able to compete. The promoters have decided to give the title shot to Jim Brunzell and Bobby Eaton, based on their six man win Friday in Orlando.

We will also have a special taped interview with Wahoo McDaniel, who will be wrestling in Florida soon.

Gordon sadly says that when the CWF returns, he and a representative of the promotion will address the Dusty Rhodes situation.

Eddie Graham joins Gordon in the ring. He has a copy of the contract for the Lights Out match that was signed by The Assassin and Dusty Rhodes. Gordon asks Graham to read a portion of that contract. Graham reads: If either wrestler is pinned in this match, he will not wrestle in Florida for 90 days.

Gordon then states that Graham has a prepared statement from the CWF promoters:

Even though the circumstances surrounding the loss by Dusty Rhodes to the Assassin in the Lights Out match on August 17 in Orlando are dubious at best, stipulations are stipulations. The contract reads:”He will not wrestle in Florida for 90 days.” Mr. Rhodes will not wrestle in Florida for 90 days.

Gordon thanks Graham and shakes his hand. He returns to his seat at the bell table.
The wrestlers come to the ring for the first match.

BUCK FORREST vs. DENNIS HALL

Gordon notices that the referee has not come to the ring. Almost on cue, a roar comes up from the crowd. A masked man with a familiar body shape is wearing a referee’s shirt. He waits in the opposite corner and then calls for the bell. Forrest is the first to complain about the calls of this official. He shoves the masked ref. The man in the striped shirt twirls his arms in a well-known way and Forrest backs off. Hall wins with a knee lift followed by a bulldog.

HALL (W) @ 4:29

The masked referee waves to the crowd and waits in the corner for the next match. Gordon says he hears from the back that the Assassins Unlimited contingent is livid and will be out to vent during our next segment.

A local promo airs for the card at the Jacksonville Coliseum on August 22nd. Bell time is 7 PM.

The show returns to an angry contingent of wrestlers talking to Gordon Solie. The Great Bolo calls for Eddie Graham to return. The manager gets into the face of Graham and what to know what is up with this.

Graham says the referee in the preceding match came to CWF with “dream” credentials and asked for a referee position. The referee came in wearing a mask and the resume spoke for itself. Bolo says: “Dream”, my foreign object. That’s Dusty Rhodes.” Graham says all the promoters see is a mask, but if need be, the people with a problem need to read the contract.

The bell rings and the referee motions for The Assassin to get into the ring for his TV Title defense.

FLORIDA TELEVISION TITLE MATCH
THE ASSASSIN(C) vs. BOB ARMSTRONG

The Assassin gets in the face of the masked referee. Armstrong rolls Assassin up from behind. The referee counts a close but consistent two. Assassin tries to block out the man he thinks is Dusty Rhodes. He is able to do so and works on Armstrong’s right shoulder. Bob goes in and weakens Assassin’s right leg.

Late in the match, the battle goes to the floor. Nelson Royal, the man who turned on Rhodes, comes out and gets in the referee’s face. Assassin tries to hit Armstrong with a clothesline. Armstrong ducks and the clothesline hits the masked referee. The Assassin is startled and leaves himself open to being poled by Armstrong. Armstrong rolls into the ring and the recovered referee makes the count. The bell rings when the count is at 8 but The Assassin is nowhere close to getting back in.

Gordon recalls that the rules for the Florida TV title say that the referee has the final decision in the case of a draw. Gordon says that the decision could go the way of Armstrong since it is apparent that The Assassin could not have returned to the ring had the match gone two more seconds. The masked official makes that exact call. Since the TV champ must win to retain the title, Bob Armstrong is the new champion.

ARMSTRONG (W) @ 10:00 by REFEREE’S DECISION

Assassin, Royal, and Bolo are incensed. They say the odds are against them tonight, but there will be other days.

The fans are encouraged to stay tuned as the new Florida Tag Team Title holders are up next.

A film clip plays showing Mike Graham being injured falling off the top turnbuckle. The follow up moves result in the Manchurians winning the match and the Florida Tag Titles.

Sir Oliver Humperdink is at the ring table with Gordon. He says that he has earned his managerial money tonight. He pointed out to the promoters that the title match was supposed to be title match for Keirn and Graham, not Eaton and Brunzell. The promoters begrudgingly agreed.

Gordon confirms this.

THE MANCHURIANS w/ SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK vs. BOBBY EATON/ JIM BRUNZELL

This match goes all over the Fort Lauderdale War Memorial Auditorium. Eaton is poled early and busted open. A surfboard is The Manchurians hold of choice. Eaton is tortured and gives it his all to make to the ropes. The masked referee calls for the break and Humperdink jumps on the ring apron. The referee will have none of it, and when Humperdink does not go back to the floor on his own, the man in the striped shirt gives a “gentle” shove. The Manchurians leave Eaton alone to go to the manger’s aid. This allows Eaton to make the tag.

Brunzell comes in on the hot tag. He hits several high drop kicks. He, then, concentrates on the right arm of Prince Tapu. In a modified Anderson form, hammerlock slams take their toll. Eaton is tagged in and he hits a fist drop onto the weakened limb. He then clamps on a step over arm bar. Tapu barely makes the ropes. Eaton’s youthful temper gets the best of him as he gets into it with the ref on the break.

The match ends up on the floor and the two teams use cables, chairs, railings, and what ever else they can get their hands on. The referee has no choice but to call for the double count out.

MANCHURIANS-EATON/ BRUNZELL—DOUBLE COUNTOUT @ 8:49

Gordon says that the Southern Title is on the line when we return.

A local promo airs for the matches at the Miami Jai-Alai Fronton on August 24th. Bell time is 7 PM.

A VTR airs showing Wahoo McDaniel in the locker room at the Orlando Sports Arena. He says that six man match was good for several people. Eaton and Brunzell got their tag shot tonight, and he will get his chance at the Florida Heavyweight title on August 24th. He looks in the camera hard and says if it’s you I face, Jack Brisco, all bets are off.

Gordon talks about the sneak attack of Steve Strong on Austin Idol after the battle of managers was about to be won by Idol. He says that Idol is still hurting form the application of the swinging full nelson by Strong.

SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
AUSTIN IDOL(C) vs. STEVE STRONG

Bolo and Strong concentrate on the match and not the masked referee here. Strong uses nerve holds to weaken the neck and shoulders of Idol. Idol is able to make several comebacks, one, in particular, which starts with him throwing Strong through the middle ropes. Idol slams the right knee of Strong into the ring steps and applies a half Boston Crab when the match gets back in the ring.

As Idol is slumped on the ropes and Strong has the referee’s attention, Bolo hits him with a loaded head butt. Strong clamps on the swinging neck breaker. He crunches down hard on Idol’s neck. Bolo yells to the ref to ask him. The referee asks Idol if he wants to submit. He shouts no. Bolo tells the referee again to ask him, this time he shoves the ref from behind. The ref “calmly” asks him not to do that again. Bolo does shove him again. The masked referee calls for the bell. Austin Idol retains the Southern title.

IDOL (W) by DQ @ 7:29

The Assassins, Unlimited faction at the Auditorium (Royal, Assassin, Garvin, Strong, and Bolo) are furious. The ref helps Idol to the back.

SOLIE: So long from the Sunshine State.

DARK MATCHES:

REFEREE: CORSICA JEAN

STEVE KEIRN defeats PAUL DEMARCO when Keirn breaks a sleeper by using a jaw breaker. He follows up with a swinging neck breaker to win this hard fought match @ 12:30.

NELSON ROYAL/ GORGEOUS JIMMY GARVIN w/ THE GREAT BOLO defeat EDDIE GRAHAM/ RIC DRASIN when Garvin hits a brain buster on Drasin after Bolo hits a bulldog on the floor by 11:19.

This masked official seems to have taken the great Bolo and his men on a real Midnight ride...

Bob Armstrong as the TV champion works for me on quite a few levels as it gives a good worker a real place to build up to either a Florida title shot or Southern Title shot down the line.

Wahoo vs. Brisco could be a great match. I just wonder if you will keep the belt on Jack. Might be interesting to see McDaniel as the heel...

Brunzell and Eaton are getting there as a tag team. Both guys are great talents, but I wonder who does the talking for the duo...

Live TV, ain't it great?
