AWA International Wrestling TV 8/18/77

~ In a match taped prior to TV, Rusher Kimura defeated Daniel Martel with a clothesline to the back of the head in 5:00.

TV begins.

Jack Curran & Jack Britton open the show by announcing that Mad Dog Lefebvre has pulled a name for his opponent today in the TV Title challenge match. Today the Mad Dog will defend his title against "Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe!

Major Duke George comes out and says it's a shame that one of his men like Eric the Red or former Quebec Heavyweight Champion Paul LeDuc wasn't drawn to be the challenger. The Major thinks Lefebvre has greased the pocket of the match makers in order to eliminate Duke's Army as possible challengers.

The Major says Lefebvre will lose the title soon, he can feel it. Duke then talks about Raymond Rougeau defeating LeDuc for the Quebec title and says the former champion is demanding a title match on todays program.

This brings out International Wrestling chairman Johnny Rougeau who says the match will not happen on today's program and mentions that LeDuc was already given several title rematches, and he failed to regain the title in those contests. As far as Johnny Rougeau is concerned LeDuc isn't owed any more title shots until he proves himself...Duke claims nepotism and promises Johnny Rougeau that his army will still get the belt off of Raymond.

Bout 1: The Alaskan Bears (Mike & Jay York) defeated Greg Peterson & Len Shelley when Jay York pinned Peterson after a double running shoulder block in 3:30

After the match the York Brothers make it quite clear to Jack Curran that they are in the area for the International Tag Team Titles, which are now held by the Mercenaries. Jay York says the Mercenaries have defeated every team in Canada, except for them. The Alaskans plan to win the gold, and win it soon.

Bout 2: Eric the Red (w/Major Duke George) defeated Rick McGraw in 4:15 after a pair of splashes. Eric refused to relinquish his foe from all of the Red's body weight until Major Duke blew the dog whistle to control the wild man. After the Major blew the whistle, Eric left the ring and joined his master at the announce area.

Duke tells Curran that The Major has plans for the Rougeau boys and Mad Dog Lefebvre, and Eric the Red is a big part of those plans. Eric stares off into space while the Major states that it's no more mr. nice guy, and starting today, his army will claim battle after battle, eventually winning the war.

It's interview time with Billy Two Rivers and Chief War Eagle.....The Chief makes mention of some of their recent losses, blaming Two Rivers, but stating he was new and still has things to learn so it's okay. Curran calls the Chief "Danny" by mistake and War Cloud is quick to make mention he now goes byt CHIEF not DANNY. Curran apologizes and says the Indian team looks promising. War Cloud says with the proper training he can carry any partner to a tag team title reign, and plans to do so with Two Rivers.

Jacques Rougeau Jr. is out next for interview time and says he thinks War Cloud may be a little tough on Two Rivers but that's the name of the game, in order to get good, you have to learn from your mistakes. Jacques talks about his near AWA World Jr. Title win from 2 weeks back and says he looks forward to another title shot in the near future. In the mean time Jacques has some unfinished business with the Hangman and other members of Major Duke's army.

Bout 3: In a non-title match Quebec Heavyweight Champion Raymond Rougeau defeated UFO with the sleeper hold in 3:15.

After the match Raymond talks about regaining the title, saying LeDuc was the toughest fight of his life, but he did it! Rougeau is now a two time Heavyweight Champion and looks forward to facing all comers. Rougeau said he knows the competition is tough but he will do his best to beat everyone the Major, or anyone else throws at him.

Bout 4: Television Champion Mad Dog Lefebvre vs. "Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe (w/Jack Evans)
Evans is caught illegally aiding Sharpe early in the bout and is SENT TO THE BACK & BARRED FROM RINGSIDE! Sharpe looks concerned but take sa short cut to gain the full advantage on Lefebvre for several minutes. The Mad Dog fires back and begins a offense when Major Duke comes down to ringside and distracts Lefebvre. IT DOESN'T Work! Mad Dog hits his POWERSLAM on Sharpe! Mad Dog covers but Major Duke has referee Adrian Desbois occupied. Lefebvre gets up & CLOCKS Major Duke, sending him flying off the apron!

The referee looks down to check on the Major while Paul LeDuc sneaks in from behind! Paul LeDuc is in the ring and while Lefebvre is distracted, the Canadian Lumberjack hits a BEARHUG AVALANCHE on the Mad Dog! LeDuc leaves the ring and goes to the aid of his fallen manager at ringside. In the mean time Larry Sharpe crawls over to Lefebvre. Larry Sharpe hooks the tights and gets a 1----2-----3! LARRY SHARPE HAS WON THE TV TITLE in 7:45!

Jack Evans is back out and snatches the belt from the announce table. Evans yanks the Pretty Boy out of the ring & drapes the belt over the shoulder of an out of breath Larry Sharpe. In the mean time the Major & Paul LeDuc laugh from ringside.

The official decision, your winner and new Television championis "Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe.

The fans think the Mad Dog was robbed, as does Jack Curran!

.commercial

A VERY angry Mad Dog Lefebvre is with Jack Curran & Jack britton as we close the show. No recap today as Lefebvre has something to say. The Mad Dog promises to get the belt back in due time, Larry Sharpe is now another name on the list of men he plans to pulverize. But number one with a bullet is Major Duke and now #2 is Paul LeDuc!

The Mad Dog promises to hunt down LeDuc and drive him into the ground, thus leading to Lefebvre getting his hands on the Major all alone. Lefebvre demands a match with LeDuc, he screams and pleads as the show is closing...Lefebvre storms off like a mad man after being robbed of his TV Title.

Fans we are short on time but on next weeks edition of International wrestling the NEW Television champion Larry Sharpe will be here, we hope to hear more on the LeDuc/Lefebvre situation, The Indian duo will be here in action as well as The Masked Mr. Pro returns!
