WORLD WRESTLING COUNCIL ISIDORO GARCIA BASEBALL STADIUM MAYAGUEZ, PUERTO RICO AUGUST 21, 1977 8 PM REFEREE: EL VIKINGO --Puerto Rican national anthem Match 1- INFERNO II w/ HOMER O’DELL defeats CIEN CARAS. The bigger Inferno catches Caras when he attempts a body press. He drops the face of Caras into the top turnbuckle and follows up with a lateral press @ 14:29. O’Dell takes a cheap shot at Caras with his cane after the match. Match 2- INFERNO I w/ HOMER O’DELL defeats THE AVENGER. The crowd is solidly behind The Avenger. Inferno tries every dirty trick in the book but Avenger recovers each time. Avenger works on Inferno’s back. Despite some more offense from Inferno I, The Avenger looks to be getting a win when he lifts the heel up for a brain buster. Inferno II comes out to distract Vikingo, allowing O’Dell to pull the legs of The Avenger out with his cane. Inferno I comes down hard on The Avenger for the pin @ 19:29. Match 3- ROCK RIDDLE defeats “THE ALL-AMERICAN” DON KERNODLE. Riddle has real trouble with Kernodle and his mat wrestling early in this contest. A series of fireman’s carries puts Riddle down and Kernodle goes in for the sugar hold. Riddle barely gets to the ropes. Kernodle drops his head too quickly on a backdrop attempt. Riddle hits a knee to the head of the Elon College grad. Riddle drapes Kernodle over the ropes and slams him with some brutally stiff forearms. Kernodle makes a Herculean effort to fight back. In the end, though, the beating from the energetic Riddle is too much to overcome. Riddle hits a high vertical suplex for the win @ 21:29. Match 4- VICTOR JOVICA defeats SUPER MEDICO Super Medico is much faster than Jovica early on in the contest. A running forearm smash takes Jovica off his feet. Medico, then switches his tactics, and goes after Jovica’s legs. Drawing energy from the crowd, Jovica recovers and Irish whips Super Medico into the ropes. A series of shoulder tackles staggers Medico. Jovica tries one tackle too many and falls through the ropes and to the floor. Though still woozy, Medico tries for a plancha dive. Jovica is able to side step. Medico hits his shoulder on the ring railing. Jovica rolls Medico back in the ring and applies several hammerlock slams. Jovica settles in with a figure four arm lock. Medico valiantly tries to reach the ropes but has to submit @ 23:29. Match 5- ANTONIO INOKI/ HURACAN CASTILLO defeat THE PROFESSIONAL/ TOSH TOGO by DQ. Togo comes to the ring holding his Oddjob derby from the James Bond movie. He places it on the ring table. The early advantage goes to the team of The Professional and Togo. Castillo is so intense to go after The Pro that he leaves himself open to Togo and a chop to the throat. Despite the complaints of Inoki, Vikingo lets it go, saying he can’t call what he can’t see. Togo tags and softens Castillo’s mid-section for Togo’s abdominal claw. Togo tags in The Pro. Pro climbs to the top rope, as Togo holds Castillo. Castillo manages to free himself and a double axe handle from The Pro clocks Togo. Castillo tags Inoki and Inoki wails away at The Professional. Inoki leg sweeps Pro and works on his legs. Castillo drops a fist from the top rope into Pro’s knee, when he gets his wind back. The match ends up on the floor. Inoki and Togo end up next to the ring table. Oddjob grabs for the derby and swings at Inoki. He accidentally hits Vikingo, who goes down. Inoki is busted open by the derby-wielding Togo. He passes the derby to The Pro who hits Castillo with it. Vikingo has made it to his feet and calls for the bell @ 27:00. Match 6- GIL HAYES w/ ROCK RIDDLE defeats HERCULES AYALA. Hayes comes out with Riddle and both of them pass money to some of the women at ringside. The women lavish Hayes and Riddle with hugs and kisses that your mother warned you about when you went away to college. When the match begins, Hayes keeps backing away from the irritated Ayala. Ayala charges into the corner. He climbs the ropes and rocks Hayes with rights and lefts. Riddle says some familial references to Ayala and distracts the Puerto Rican strongman. With Vikingo occupied taking care of Riddle, he does see Hayes go low. As Ayala is wobbly, Hayes goes into his boot and pulls out a Rolex. He puts it around his fist and uppercuts Ayala, once again out of the sight of Vikingo. Eventually, Ayala returns the favor, drawing crimson by ramming Hayes’ head into the ring post through the turnbuckles. Late in the match, Ayala manages to reverse an Indian death lock. Hayes is pulled to the ropes by Riddle. Vikingo calls for the break. Hayes slumps to the floor, conferring with Riddle. Riddle starts jawing with Vikingo, the referee coming close to blows with the two of them. While this is going on, Mark Manson of The Manson Mafia sneaks up behind Ayala and hits him with a chair. Hayes sees what happened, even though Vikingo did not. Hayes hits Ayala with a swinging neck breaker for the win. @ 31:11. (c) CAPITAL SPORTS
