NWA Amarillo TV 8/18
Aug 22nd, 2007, 2:47pm

Hi guys, it’s going to be a very busy few weeks for me so I’ve had to shorten the format just for now. When things settle down, I’ll get back to the normal length. I apologize in advance if the shows aren’t as enjoyable for the time being.

Championship Wrestling from Amarillo
TV 8/18/77
Taped the morning of 8/11/77
Your host and ring announcer: Steve Stack
Timekeeper at the bell is Joe Collins
Ring Examiner is Dr. W. Russell
All matches under supervision of the State of Texas Athletic Board.

Steve Stack welcomes us to this afternoon’s program and let’s everyone know that NWA World Heavyweight Champion Terry Funk will wrestle on today’s program in a blockbuster in advance of his title defense this coming Thursday against The Mongolian Stomper. Funk will team with his brother International Heavyweight Champion Dory Funk Junior and Western States Champion Dick Murdoch against The Mongolian Stomper, The Giant Baba, and Gino Hernandez. Also this Thursday night, Western States Tag Team Champions Gino Hernandez & Jerry Brisco will defend against the Dream Team of Dick Murdoch and Dory Funk Jr. On-tap today, plenty of in-ring and out of the ring action on Championship Rasslin after this short commercial break.

The Super Destroyers I & II defeated Lanny Poffo & Skip Young at 6:03 when the newly arrived Super Destroyer II forced Young to submit to the Clawhold. We saw this past Thursday night that the SD has brought in a protégé and in today’s match, he showed just how dominant he can be. Poffo and Young put up a good fight, especially Poffo, but they just couldn’t stop the monstrous Super Destroyers today. After the match, Super Destroyer II refused to release the claw until he was told to do so by The Super Destroyer.

Interview: The Funk Brothers & Dick Murdoch have some strong words for Bobby Davis’ stable of wrestlers. Murdoch and Dory mention that they defeated Baba and The Stomper last Thursday night and they’ll do the same tonight with the NWA World Heavyweight Champion as their partner. Terry Funk says Junior, Murdoch, and himself take nothing away from how dangerous Davis’ men are and they know anything could happen tonight, however they believe they will win tonight and they believe they’ll win this Thursday night.

The Great Kabuki (w/ Bobby Davis) defeated Frank Dalton at 4:11 when Kabuki landed a brutal side kick to the chin that knocked Dalton out. The Great Kabuki’s first official match was a sight to be seen as Kabuki spent several minutes before the match going through samurai rituals, including blowing green mist onto his hands. Once the bell rang, Kabuki annihilated the veteran Dalton and used his karate expertise to shut down any offense his opponent tried. The end finally came after Kabuki managed to knock Frank Dalton unconscious.

Interview: Paul Orndorff & Brian Blair gave an interview and were joined by their mentor Jerry Oates, who was on crutches. Oates says he believe this team will go far and he is more than pleased to be helping them along in their journey to tag team championship gold. Orndorff says he and Brian still have a beef with The Australians and are in the process of getting another matched signed with them. Blair adds that next time they’ll have their friend Jerry Oates in their corner to counter-act the dastardly Steve Rackman. Orndorff closes by saying sooner or later The Australians are going to have to face them again.

Steve Regal defeated Yoshiaki Fujiwara in an exciting TV match that ended at 8:03 when Regal turned a suplex attempt into a small package. This young man, Steve Regal, seemed to electrify the crowd with his technical wrestling prowess and ability to count virtually any hold. It’s clear that Regal really has a future in the sport of professional wrestling and made a tremendous stride tonight by defeating the accomplished young Japanese wrestler.

Interview: Bobby Davis & “Gorgeous” Gino Hernandez join Steve Stack and Gino interrupts Steve and says that he wants to be introduced as the “MVP of Amarillo Wrestling” from now on. He says the Funks and Murdoch should feel honored to be in the same ring as him tonight and he says maybe some of his magnificence will rub off on them if they’re lucky. He warns both men not to touch his gorgeous face or they will face the full wrath of Kabuki, Stomper, and the “Monster Who Ate Tokyo” Giant Baba. Bobby Davis is about to go into his spiel, but Steve says Gino took the entire allotted interview time so they have to go to a break.

Giant Baba, Gino Hernandez, & The Mongolian Stomper defeated Terry Funk, Dory Funkr Jr., and Dick Murdoch in 15:37 of a wild and woolly TV Main Event. The Funks and Dick Murdoch cleaned house early on and forced all three opponents to the floor, managing to rile up the fans and infuriate Bobby Davis. However, Giant Baba was able to catch Dory Funk with a kick to the stomach later on and he and his teammates made quick tags for the next several minutes to keep Junior from tagging out. Eventually though, Dory managed to duck a clothesline attempt from The Mongolian Stomper and dive into his corner and tag in Dick Murdoch. Murdoch came in like a house of fire and worked over all three opponents, but became distracted when Bobby Davis got onto the apron. Murdoch grabbed him by the collar, but this left him susceptible to a double chop to the back of the neck from Giant Baba. Ever an opportunist, the legal man Gino Hernandez rolled Murdoch up, grabbed a handful of tights which the referee didn’t see, and got the shocking pin on the Western States Heavyweight Champion! After the match, Bobby Davis quickly gathered his men on the outside, where Gino Hernandez celebrated like he just won the World Heavyweight Title. In the ring, The Funks and Dick Murdoch are furious and challenge Davis’ men to get back in the ring, but Bobby and Gino lead Stomper and Baba to the back.

Steve Stack comes back from commercial and takes about the shocking events we saw before the break where Bobby Davis’ team stole a victory over the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, the International Heavyweight Champion, and the Western States Heavyweight Champion! Stack runs down the card for this Thursday night’s Sports Arena card and reminds to be back here next week at 4:15PM for another action-packed edition of Championship Rasslin.

KABUKI is a wild man I like what you have done with him. I wish I would have know we could have made him KABUKI so early I have had him on my list a few times but did not think people wold go for it. You have sold it good and made it work out. Loved the show.  Wink
