CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING FROM FLORIDA
TAPED AT:
TAMPA SPORTATORIUM
601 N. ALBANY
TAMPA, FLORIDA
TAPED: WEDNESDAY AUGUST 29, 1977
BROADCAST ON: SEPTEMBER 1, 1977
SYNDICATED ACROSS THE SOUTHEASTERN US
COMMENTATOR: GORDON SOLIE
REFEREE: FRENCHY BERNARD

Theme music is played while mat action featuring Jack Brisco, Jerry Brisco, The Assassin, The Spoiler, Dusty Rhodes, Steve Keirn, The Manchurians, Mike and Eddie Graham, Austin idol, and others is shown

The camera pans the studio and settles on the interview desk.

Gordon welcomes the crowd to a special Labor Day Weekend telecast of Championship Wrestling from Florida.

Gordon mentions that there is a special relationship between the Boy’s Ranch and Girl’s Villa in Tampa and CWF. The sheriff’s department has sponsored this group for several years. Today’s crowd has a lot of those special boys and girls in it. They are guests of CWF and the ranch has just received several new Atari 2600 video game systems. Atari has also put up $3000 for a special tournament today.

Four wrestlers have been chosen by members of our studio audience here at the Sportatorium. They are: Bobby Eaton, Mike Graham, Nelson Royal, and Jimmy Garvin.

They will wrestle in two semi-final matches and the winners will wrestle in a winner-take-all final match. In an added development, Mr. Official I will be the referee for that final match.

The action starts after these messages.

The show returns to clips of Austin Idol being injured at the hands of Assassins, Unlimited last week on TV. Idol is shown in the locker saying he is hurt but is not out. He will be out for revenge against all comers who try to take this Southern belt from him.

ATARI TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINAL MATCH
BOBBY EATON vs. NELSON ROYAL w/ THE GREAT BOLO

Eaton is at his best in this match. Gordon tells the fans that Eaton has a great set of fists that will carry him far in this game. Royal matches the young star hold for hold and takes several short cuts. Bolo tries to interfere on Royal’s behalf. Bernard manages to keep Bolo from a loaded head butt attempt. Eaton blocks a suplex from Royal and executes a fisherman’s suplex for the win.

EATON (W) @ 8:20.

Gordon remarks Bolo is frustrated but he realizes that, with Jimmy Garvin, he still has a chance to get his share of that Atari money.

A VTR from Jack Brisco has the Florida champion talking about his recent title defenses. He mentions that he is in line for title shots against the NWA World Champion. Jack says anything goes when he gets that chance.

ATARI TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINAL
MIKE GRAHAM vs. GORGEOUS JIMMY GARVIN w/ THE GREAT BOLO

Graham is very unlucky in this match. He misses a running shoulder block as Garvin is in the corner. Graham hurts his shoulder and neck. Garvin takes advantage and punishes Graham. Despite several rallies by Graham, Garvin is able to pull out a win with a brainbuster.

GARVIN w/ BOLO (W) @ 9:38

Gordon says the finalists in this tournament, Garvin and Eaton, may be the future of CWF. A match featuring Ric Drasin will be up next.

Mr. Official I comes to the interview desk with Eddie Graham. Graham reads a prepared statement from the masked referee. It states that he has idolized the American Dream for years. He saw the injustice done to him in the Lights Out match against The Assassin and couldn’t stand still for that. He looks forward to his assignment today but The Assassin better watch out tomorrow.

RIC DRASIN vs. JACK ARMSTRONG

Armstrong has some offense early but Drasin and his strength proves too much and the veteran beats the game Armstrong with a pile driver.

DRASIN (W) @ 5:29

Gordon encourages the viewers to stay tuned for the Atari finals.

The Manchurians are standing in front of an empty studio ring. Their manager Sir Oliver Humperdink says these men are mad enough to tear apart all the teams in CWF, but smart enough to listen to him. That combination is unbeatable.

ATARI TOURNAMENT FINALS
BOBBY EATON vs. GORGEOUS JIMMY GARVIN w/ THE GREAT BOLO

Mr. Official I has the veteran presence to keep these young lions in check. Eaton weakens the right arm of Garvin. Garvin retaliates and puts a hurt on Eaton’s neck. Late in the match, Bolo motions for Garvin to hold Eaton for a head butt. While Bolo loads his mask, Official I loads his. The masked manager hits the head of the masked referee. Both men go down. Bernard comes in to keep the match alive. Eaton takes Garvin out with a brutal clothesline. He mounts the ropes and hits an Alabama Jam for the $3000 win.

EATON (W) @ 8:29

Bobby celebrates the win with the fans.

SOLIE: So long from the Sunshine State.

This is my final post as promoter of Championship Wrestling from Florida. T. Lyne is going to take over Florida. I have enjoyed my time here. I hope you have, too. Stay tuned. Florida is in very capable hands.

Good luck, Tom.

The four tournament matches were fantastic, some of the best TV bouts in a long time. You also did a great job establishing Bobby Eaton as a rising star with this show.

Your promotion has always been a favorite of mine! I look forward to seeing your WWC shows and am sure they will be great.
