NWA ST. LOUIS TV(8/26/77)
Sep 2nd, 2007, 8:38pm

Wrestling At The Chase
8/26/77

Taped on 8/12/77

The opening match sees Spike Huber square off against Terry Sawyer in a scientific match. Huber gets the pin after an airplane spin.

Huber’s opponent at the Kiel tonight, NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champ Jerry Brisco is interviewed. Jerry admits that Spike is a great athlete and wrestler, but predicts that the title will not switch hands tonight!

Jos LeDuc takes on Tony Russo in what could be LeDuc’s last match on “Wrestling At The Chase”. LeDuc has promised that he will go back to Canada if he loses tonight’s Lumberjack Match to Sterling Golden! Jos  is particularly aggressive today, even throwing a dropkick or two. LeDuc finally finishes Russo off with a bearhug submission.

The Heenan Family surrounds Larry Matysik for an interview. Sterling Golden taunts LeDuc, saying that he hopes LeDuc has booked a flight to Canada for tonight. Hussein Arab promises that he will beat Bob Backlund and earn a shot at the Missouri Title, which should be his anyway! Bobby Heenan and Ox Baker say that regardless of the “surprise that Bob Backlund and Tatsumi Fujinami have for them, the Heenan Family will just continue to roll om!

Bob Backlund squares off with Bearcat Brown. The veteran brown is no slouch and he gives Bob a good match! Bob is on a hot streak however and pins Brown after an atomic frop.

Missouri Champ Jack Brisco and NWA World Champion Jack Brisco do a joint interview about their World Title match tonight. Both men talk about how their families have feuded for years. Brisco states that despite all of that, he respects Funk even though he doesn’t like him. Brisco offers a handshake, but Terry slaps it away. They look like they’re going to square off when NWA troubleshooter official Lou Thesz comes out and tells them to save it for the Kiel! Lou also announces that this match is of such importance that he, Lou Thesz himself, will officiate!

Bob Backlund, Tatsumi Fujinami, and Jos LeDuc do a joint interview. Bob talks about the Great Hussein Arab, who is shown glaring from the ring. Bob says that Hussein might be his toughest opponent ever, but that he has been training hard and hopefully, he will win the title shot at Jack Brisco. Backlund also states that he and Fujinami have something special in store for Bobby Heenan both tonight in St. Louis and next Sunday in Kansas City! LeDuc is fired up and says that he isn’t going anywhere, but it will be Sterling Golden who leaves town!

The Great Hussein Arab(w/Bobby Heenan) takes on Mike Pappas. Pappas gets a little bit of offense in, but was no match for the Iranian. The Great one won via submission to the Camel Clutch.

Stan Hansen is interviewed. He admits that he isn’t the most like person in wrestling, but he’s found a partner….and that partner be there at the Kiel to help Stan take on D.I. Bob Slaughter and TaNk Patton! Hansen also promises the fans in KC that next week, he will get through Tank Patton to get his shot at the Central States Title!

D.I. Bob Slaughter (w/Tank Patton) puts the Central States Title on the line against Danny Little Bear. Little Bear gets an early advantage, but Slaughter takes over and puts him away with the Cobra Clutch.

Slaughter and Patton are interviewed in the ring by a visibly intimidated Mickey Garagiola. Slaughter says Hansen is bluffing. NOBODY wants to team with “that traitor, that maggott scum”. Slaughter says that if Hansen isn’t finished after tonight, he will be in KC next Monday night!

Harley Race, one half of the Central States Tag Team Champions, battles Ken Patera, one half of the NWA World Tag Team Champions in a preview of tonight’s World Title Match. Lou Thesz has barred both men’s partners from ringside. This is one of the most physical matches ever seen on St. Louis TV as these two warriors take turns battering each other! The ten minutes or so left of TV time isn’t enough and the match ends in a draw. Race and Patera continue to battle and they are fighting on the floor as the show goes off the air!
