NWA Amarillo 9/6
Sep 6th, 2007, 4:36pm

Western States Wrestling
Sports Arena
Amarillo, Texas

”Cowboy” Ron Bass vs. Ricky Thompson: Bass is from Pampa, Texas and he makes his debut tonight, coming off another a championship run in another wrestling organization. He dominates Thompson from bell-to-bell and gets the win after almost taking Ricky’s head off with a Texas Lariat. (5’53)

Giant Baba (w/ Wild Bull Curry) vs. Doug Sommers: Baba has been engaged in quite a feud with Dick Murdoch and he will team with Kabuki next week against Captain Redneck and Andre The Giant here at the Sports Arena. Tonight, he takes apart young Doug Sommers and pins him after a double stomp to the chest. (4’11)

The Kozak Brothers vs. Brian Blair & Paul Orndorff: Nick and Jerry Kozak have won so many tag team titles over the years and prove to be quite a challenge for the up and coming duo of Blair and Orndorff. However, Paul and Brian hold their own and manage to counter-act the Kozaks’ natural timing and teamwork with Blair’s speed and Orndorff’s power. Paul manages to pin Jerry Kozak after driving him into the canvas with a big powerslam. After the bout ended, Jerry and Nick Kozak shook the hands of their opponents. (10’43)

After the intermission, Tarzan Tyler came out to the ring and says no one has signed up to face him yet and says he won’t leave the Sports Arena unless he gets some competition. Tyler says he crippled Lanny Poffo and Tiger Conway and sent them out of the area and he’ll do the same to anyone else who wants to try him. So he dares anyone, ANYONE, to come out here and try to take him on in the middle of the ring, one-on-one right now! There is some commotion and a man can be seen walking down the aisle towards the ring. It’s a man that everyone can recognize as the former International Heavyweight Champion:

JOHNNY WEAVER!!

Tarzan Tyler vs. Johnny Weaver: Tyler is furious and he tries to attack Weaver as he enters the ring, but Johnny belts him with some right hands. Tarzan rakes Weaver’s eyes and begins tearing at Johnny’s face like the lunatic he is and works over the former champ for a few moments. Johnny won’t be denied he fights his way back and catches Tyler with a big clothesline off the ropes. Johnny then lands a few stomps and then pulls Tyler up and signals for the end. Weaver lands the Bulldog and covers Tarzan Tyler to get the win, making his return to Amarillo a successful one! (12’23)

WESTERN STATES CHAMPIONSHIP- Gino Hernandez (w/ Bobby Davis) vs. Chris Taylor: Hernandez parades down to the ring like he’s the King of Amarillo and demands to be announced as “the MVP of Amarillo.” Gino’s opponent tonight is former Olympian, who outweighs him by over 150 pounds and has a tremendous strength advantage. Bobby Davis has his trusty metal clipboard and seems to be taking notes throughout the match, which sees Gino being thrown around by Chris Taylor for most of it. In the final few minutes, Gino rakes Taylor’s eyes and calls for Bobby to get on the apron to give him some advice. Hernandez slowly makes his way over to Davis and asks him to look at the clipboard, which Bobby holds up reluctantly and confusedly. Taylor sees this going on and charges over. Gino ducks out of the way and Chris Taylor collides head-first into Bobby Davis’ metal clipboard, sending Davis flying to the floor. Taylor is bleeding from the head and stumbling around, which leaves him prone to a running knee lift from Gino that sends the big men tumbling to the arena floor. Taylor has seemingly been knocked unconscious and is counted out, giving Gino Hernandez a win to regain his title. Bobby Davis looks to be hurt and angry that Gino used him as a “human sacrifice” of sorts, but Gino helps his manager to the back, all the while smiling and taunting the fans. (15’43)

NWA INTERNATIONAL HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP-BEST 2/3 FALLS- Dory Funk Jr. vs. The Mongolian Stomper (w/ Wild Bull Curry):

FALL #1: The Mongolian Stomper pinned Dory Funk Junior after a coming off the top rope with a double knee drop to the chest of the NWA International Heavyweight Champion. (17’23)

FALL #2: Dory Funk Jr. pinned The Mongolian Stomper by reversing a body-slam attempt by The Stomper in a small-package pinning attempt and preventing Stomper from kicking out. (14’43)

FALL #3: Dory Funk Jr. defeated The Mongolian Stomper by forcing him to verbally give up to the Spinning Toe Submission, thus forcing the big Mongolian out of Amarillo. (19’01)

After the bout ended, Funk was joined in the ring by Paul Orndorff, Brian Blair, Johnny Weaver, Nick Kozak, Jerry Kozak, Ricky Thompson, and Western States Wrestling Chairman Joe Blanchard to help him celebrate such a big win!

Great card. Love the details.

Good debut by Bass.

The team of Blair and Orndorff are rising through the ranks the right way.

Weaver with a triumphant return to Amarillo. Winning with a bulldog, no less.

Hernandez "using" his manager? Now, that could lead to something.

Funk sends Stomper on his way with a butt dusting.

Great NWA-Amarillo.
