The opening plays, accompanied by Herb Alpert’s A Bandita.  We see short clips of some of the stars that have appeared on Maple Leaf Wrestling over the years, like Whipper Billy Watson, Gene Kiniski, Bruno Sammartino, Johnny Valentine, The Sheik, Jack Brisco and many more.

We then join Lord Athol Layton standing behind a podium with the Maple Leaf Wrestling logo on it, behind him, the Maple Leaf Wrestling logo and a big red and green Maple Leaf.

Layton: "Cheery-O everyone.  Welcome to Maple Leaf Wrestling.  I'm Lord Athol Layton.  I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for inviting us into your homes once again.  We have a great show in store for you today.  Tiger Jeet Singh will see singles action, as will U.S. Champion The Sheik and former World's Champion Verne Gagne.  We've got a big feature match lined up today, a rematch from last week, as the Crusaders face the Tolos Brothers, John and Chris!"

"Last Tuesday night, a major event took place...the Love Brothers defeated Dick the Bruiser and the Crusher to become the NEW World Tag Team Champions!  However, the ending of the match wasn't without controversy, as the Love Brothers ganged up on the Bruiser and double-teamed him, delivering a spike Piledriver, which led to the pinfall.  Let's take you back to last Tuesday night in Moncton, New Brunswick for the final moments of that match."

VTR - Love Brothers vs Bruiser and Crusher, Tuesday night in Moncton, New Brunswick
Crusher connects the Love Brothers with a clothesline, and tags in the Bruiser.   Bruiser comes in on fire and pummels both Reginald and Hartford with haymakers, and clotheslines, as Crusher gets back in the ring.   We’ve got all 4 men brawling in the ring, and referee Ron Goguen tries to get Crusher and Hartford Love out of the ring, as Bruiser pummels Reginald Love.   Bruiser connects with a bodyslam and pin, but as the referee is distracted Bobby Bass comes running from the back with a chair, and hits Bruiser with it, and places Reginald on top.

Referee Ron Goguen turns around and goes down for the count.

Bruiser kicks out and sends Reginald flying off.

In the meantime, on the outside Crusher grabs Bobby Bass and begins choking him, as referee Ron Goguen tries to get Crusher back in his corner.

In the ring, Hartford delivers a knee to the back of Bruiser, and Reginald kicks him in the gut and picks him up for Pile Driver.  Hartford quickly climbs to the second rope and leaps off driving Bruisers’ legs down and Reginald falls back with the Pile Driver.

Reginald covers, as Hartford turns referee Ron Goguen around, and goes down for the count.

We’ve got new World Tag Team Champions!

Jim Brunzell and Greg Gagne join Layton on the set.

Layton: "You can be sure that the Bruiser and Crusher will be looking for a rematch, a chance to regain those belts, but in the meantime, I'm joined Jim Brunzell and Greg Gagne, who will face the Love Brothers on September 20 at Maple Leaf Gardens. Gentlemen, with that victory by the Love Brothers, the International Tag Team Titles have been vacated, and your match with the Love Brothers will now be a WORLD Tag Team Title match!"

Gagne: "Lord, we've only been teaming together for a short time, but we've had a lot of success and I believe that we're ready for this shot.  We've been working out together and training together for several hours a day, every day.  I consider Jim Brunzell a close friend, and there's no one I'd rather have as my partner for this match than Jim."

The two men shake hands.

Brunzell: "This is a great opportunity for us, and we're going to make the  most of it!  Love Brothers, your reign is going to be a short one, because we're coming for those titles!"

Layton: "Best of luck to you, on September 20.  Right now, we're ready for our first match.  Brian Mackney is already in the ring, and here comes Tiger Jeet Singh, so let's go up to the ring now for that match."

MATCH #1 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
Tiger Jeet Singh defeats Brian Mackney after locking Mackney in the Cobra hold for the submission.

Layton: "A very impressive victory just before the break for Tiger Jeet Singh.  He'll be in action on September 20, against the veteran Terry Yorkston.  We're ready for our next match, Jim Brunzell and Greg Gagne are back out here, and they're ready to square off with the Wolfman and Bob Marcus, so let's go up to Norm Kimber for that match."

MATCH #2 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
Jim Brunzell & Greg Gagne defeat The Wolfman & Bob Marcus after a double dropkick on Marcus, allowing Gagne to pin him.

During the match, "Beautiful" Bruce Swayze, the manager of the Love Brothers, comes out to ringside.  He watches the final minutes of the match, but leaves as the match is ending.

MATCH #3 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
The Sheik defeats Terry Yorkston after locking Yorkston in the Camel Clutch, leading to the submission.

Layton: "The Sheik, impressive as always, simply destroys his opponents.  We heard from Eddie Creatchman a few weeks back, saying that no one wanted to get in the ring with the Sheik.  That's simply not true, wrestlers from all over the AWA have been lining up for shots at the title, and we'll see some of those wrestlers challenge the Sheik right here in Toronto over the coming months.  Right now, we've got to take a quick break, when we come back we'll talk with Greg Valentine and the man who calls himself the Masked Canadian."

After the break, Greg Valentine and the Masked Canadian are with Layton on the set.

Layton: "Gentlemen, last week, we heard from Dino Bravo and Rufus R. Jones.  They announced that they had gone to Frank Tunney and received a tag team match against you on September 20 at the Gardens.  An added stipulation to the match said that whoever gets pinned must leave Toronto!"

Valentine: "Layton, this is just further proof that there's a conspiracy against us, not only here in Toronto, but the entire AWA!  Do you think if we went to that fossil Tunney and asked for a tag team match against Bravo and Rufus he would grant it?  Of course not!  But, when it's those two, he can't write up the contract quick enough!  I'll bet Bravo, Rufus, Tunney, even AWA President Eddie Einhorn, think they've got us now, but that's not the case at all.  Oh, someone will be leaving Toronto after the tag team match on September 20...but it will NOT be either of us!  We wouldn't disappoint all of our legions of fans, we know that the only reason people even attend the shows and watch this program is to see us!  We wouldn't deprive them of that!"

Canadian: "The problem is, Rufus R. Jones and Dino Bravo are JEALOUS of us!"

Layton: "Jealous?"

Canadian: "That's right, Layton, jealous!  They both know that neither one of them will ever be even HALF the man that I am, or that Greg Valentine is.  But instead of just accepting that, they want to run us out of Toronto, so that way, they can be the top dogs.  You know, Layton, I was a fan of Dino Bravo's, I always wanted to team with him.  But after I got that chance, I realized that I was wrong in my opinion of him!  You see, Bravo comes out here and acts like he cares about these people, and that he and Rufus R. Jones are friends.  But listen up Rufus, Bravo will let you down, just like he let me down.  Rufus would be smart just to ditch that loser Bravo right now, he'd certainly be better off!"

Valentine: "You never know, Layton, we might just pin BOTH of them, at the same time, so that they both have to leave Toronto!"

Layton: "Fans, we've got to cut away for a moment, for another commercial break.  But when we come back, we'll see Verne Gagne in action."

MATCH #4 - 1 fall, 10 minute time limit:
Verne Gagne defeats Golden Boy Apollo after locking Apollo in a Sleeperhold for the win.

Layton: "An impressive win for the former AWA World Champion Verne Gagne.  Verne will be in action on September 20 at the Gardens when he faces the Teuton Terror, Baron Von Raschke!"

MATCH #5 - most falls to the curfew:
The Crusaders defeat Chris & John Tolos, 2 falls to 1.

Fall #1: John pinned Crusader #2 after a kneedrop
Fall #2: Crusader #2 pinned Chris with a sunset flip
Fall #3: Crusader #1 locked Chris in an Abdominal Stretch for the submission

After the match, Layton is joined on the set by the Canadian Champion The Crusader.

Layton: "Last week, you challenged Nick Bockwinkel to one final World Title match.  You said that if you didn't win the title, you would never ask for another title match, as long as Bockwinkel is Champion.  Just before the taping of this show, we received a videotape from the President of the AWA, Mr. Edward Einhorn.  Let's take a look at the tape."

Pre-taped Interview with AWA President Eddie Einhorn:
Einhorn is sitting at his desk, the AWA logo behind him.

Einhorn: "Ladies and Gentlemen, I've been reviewing this situation between The Crusader and Nick Bockwinkel.  We have yet to see a decisive finish to their matches.  So what I've decided to do, after meeting with the Championship Committee, is make this match a Texas Death Match!  That means, anything goes, there must be a winner!"

Back on the Maple Leaf Wrestling set.

Layton: "Well, how about that!  This match will now be a Texas Death Match!"

Crusader: "I believe that this will give me the fair shake that I've been looking for against Bockwinkel.  In our previous matches, he's relied on the time limit or underhanded tactics to retain the title, but he hasn't pinned me or made me submit.  This way, there will be no time limit, no DQ's, no Count-outs.  The only way for Bockwinkel to retain the title is by pinfall or submission!"

Layton: "How about that, fans?  The World Title match on September 20 will now be a Texas Death Match!  We saw new World Tag Team Champions crowned earlier this week...we could very well see a new World Champion crowned on September 20!  That does it for another week of Maple Leaf Wrestling.  Next week, we'll have another action-packed hour of AWA wrestling for you.  We'll see Tiger Jeet Singh in action, as well as Verne Gagne and the team of Greg Valentine and The Masked Canadian, it might be the last time we see them both here in Toronto!  All that and much, much more, right here next week on AWA Maple Leaf Wrestling.  Until then, I'm Lord Athol Layton, saying so long and we'll see you at ringside."

Gagne and abrunzell are a fantastic team and the world title match coming to Toronto is a great coup for this promotion.

Great win by the elder Gagne.

A fantastic card coming to Toronto on the 20th. Bravo and Jones will take Valentine and the Canadian to the cleaners.

Great show.

Great show this week! I didn't realize the High Flyers were back together, they'll make a great addition to the tag team scene here in MLW. I think they could be the top challengers to the Love Brothers in no time. I also like all the drama around the big Loser Leaves Town match. You have four big stars in that one so no matter who gets pinned, it's going to be big news!
